  1. A win's a win but we were terrible. Luckily England were worse. I still don't understand why Flood is an international fly half - O'Gara had a shocker but still looked better. Andy Goode has far more guile and could have won it for England at the death.
  2. Thought Andy Goode was having a good game. Don't know why he was replaced by the always ineffective Flood. All Flood seems to do is find the opposition backs with every kick. 11 fouls and 2 yellow cards is really a joke and probably ruined any chance England had Oh, and the Beeb was very poor today. Several times, they cut away from rucks and went to strange angles or long shots of the stadium, missing two or three turnovers in the process.
  3. Once clicked on an ebay add for a signed Phil Bardsley Villa photo. Unsurprisingly, the bidding was still at 99p......
  4. 42 in most trousers 44 if I'm going for an all you can eat curry house Possibly VT's fattest b*stard looking at the voting so far......
  5. I hate them all but Man Utd do my head in the least. I think Man Utd play far more attractive football than Arsenal. Give me the movement and flair of Giggs, Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Scholes et al over the slow, measured build up of Arsenal. EDIT : ha ha - just noticed the bump. Nice one Levi
  6. none in, none out. just a guess
  7. I was lucky enough to get an assisted place at a (day) secondry private school. I found the place far from snobbish. In fact 1/3 of the pupils attending were on some sort of financial assistance from the government at the time. My school was ethnicly diverse. I mixed with kids from Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, Jainist, Buddhist and athiest backgrounds and who came from all over the Midlands. It's only later in life, I appreciate this because as kids we all mixed together without prejudice. The alternative would have been an all Catholic school with peers from roughly the same neighbourhood. I would happily send my kids to a private school.
  8. didn't notice that until you mentioned it me too I was racking my brains trying to come up with a connection between Chipper Jones and the Smiths
  9. Yes. It's Butcher's tackle that put the ball in the back of the net. Also Butcher and Maradonna were both drug tested after the game where Maradonna allegedly told him that he headed the first goal so that might have added to the bitterness. On topic, I would gladly shake his hand - 2nd greatest footballer behind God
  10. The worst aspect for blose is that they are screwing their most loyal fans by little things like handling fees on away tickets (even if they pay in person by card) and by having a season ticket which costs more than attending game by game. If they don't sort out the growing resentment quickly they could see a huge decrease in renewals.
  11. Mark Cavendish. As good as Hoy's achievements were, Cavendish earned his four victories on the biggest stage in his respective sport, le Tour de France. Nicole Cooke should be on the list instead of Victoria Pendleton as she won the World Championship as well as a gold medal and set the tone for the successful Beijing games.
  12. Yes, he was 66. Some of his columns can still be found here including some correspondence published posthumously
  13. The late great Miles Kington is sadly missed. He was my favourite columnist What's the deal with Cooper Brown? Has Dom Joly finished with him?
  14. In the words of Acker "There are 92 league clubs and I hate 91 of them, Tone"
  15. General, The ticket prices for the UEFA cup games are fantastic. Thanks to everyone involved in pricing these.
  16. John Danks pitches another beauty to give the Sox a lifeline. Now down 2-1 in the series. Hopefully Gavin Floyd can win tonight and take the series to a decider. Angels also win in a tense 12 inning game against Boston. K-Rod pitching out of a bases loaded jam with the game on the line. Lackey, however, is 2-4 with a 6.34 ERA at Fenway so it doesn't look too good for the Angels in game 4
  17. Yeah the division series could become a bit of an anti-climax to a good season. White sox showed how their offence is not dynamic enough, leaving man after man on base. I'm not too disapointed as I was anticipating these sort of shortcomings in the postseason (we've been useless in the clutch all year). We definitely need more speed for 2009. Cubs are a big surprise...but not an unpleasant one . I thought Zambrano, Dempster and Harden could take them to the pennant. I still think the Red Sox will win it all.
  18. I can't see a problem with baseball players wearing gloves. After all, would you want your $100 million shortstop sitting on the sidelines because he injured his hand on a line drive? Bear in mind that hand injuries are far more detrimental to baseball players as it can really affect the power in their swing.
  19. Thaks for the quotes Levi - some great ones there. I remember during one broadcast, Ozzie was talking non stop to a rival fan next to the dugout during the game. The poor fan left late in the game and his seat was taken by another and Ozzie began bending the new fan's ear. The commentator said that they had to bring in a 'pinch listener'.
  20. ***BUMP*** I'm thrilled that the White Sox made it into the playoffs with a dramatic win in the tie-breaker with the Twins. John Danks was superb, pitching eight shut-out innings. Any thoughts on the playoffs? I can't look past the Red Sox to win it all - although Ozzie's record in the playoffs as a manager and coach (with the Marlins) is damn good! Happy days
  21. ^^Yep - i'm going to check out the Wire as well based on the recommendations
  22. Sopranos for me as well. The episode of Paulie and Christopher stuck in the snow, after bunking a hit, is the finest hour(ish) of television I have ever witnessed
  23. Guy Pearce deserves a mention was brilliant in two of my favourite 'modern' films, LA Confidential and Memento. I've gone for Crowe because he is consistently brillaint in a wide range of roles. (but he is a bit of a tw*t)
