  1. I think this is what is called a statement signing, and one which would never have happening with Dean Smith in charge. I’m excited to see where we go from here.
  2. He couldn’t play against Man Utd anyway, so it makes no difference for the next 2 games.
  3. This would be such a Villa signing (not based on his ability because I’ve not seen him play) - but missing out on him for £1.5m and then paying 10x that amount 18 months later. I’m still not sure what our scouting department are up to. Aren’t they supposed to be unearthing these players when they are bargains?
  4. Bit of an anti climax to the defence of our trophy. A much changed team to last year though.
  5. Is he doing a press conference today? Anyone know what time?
  6. John Gregory only managed Wycombe before us I believe (only for 2 years I think).
  7. I don’t particularly want Gerrard, but I’ll back him if he gets the job. He is a winner, no doubt. But it’s a big risk - for him as well as us. If he messes this up, he isn’t getting Liverpool anytime soon. I don’t want him fawning over Anfield like Houllier did. I want him 100% focused on Villa, which I think he will be. He comes across very professionally in the interviews I’ve seen recently.
  8. I’ve got a feeling that we held back some of the summer kitty for January with one eye on possibly changing the manager.
  9. Yeah, looks like they worked together at Lyngby. Could be 2+2=5. Nixon is a bit hit and miss, so not sure how accurate it is.
  10. Alan Nixon (The Sun) says we are interested in Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand if we sack Smith. Would certainly be left-field.
  11. Plus Valencia, AZ Alkmaar and Barcelona. He’d be a dreadful appointment.
  12. Eddie Howe’s move to Newcastle on the brink of collapse apparently. Could be an option for us.
  13. Yeah, Percy doesn’t speculate. I’m certain that he’s heard something.
  14. I’m not really sure it’s worth discussion anymore. We are awful and Smith has taken us as far as he can. It’s just a matter of when he’ll leave now imo. I’ll be amazed if we don’t have a new coach in time for our next league game.
  15. We look dreadful again tonight, and I genuinely can’t decide if the players are awful, or whether the coaching is awful. Maybe a bit of both.
  16. I think he gets Friday, but even a win might not save him in my opinion. The international break will come at the worst possible time for Smith.
  17. If we’re as well run as we’re led to believe then I think there will be contingency plans in place.
  18. The problem is that we (Smith) don’t have Grealish to rely on any more. Therefore his poor record without Grealish becomes more relevant. Remember how poor we were in The Championship when Grealish was injured? I think it was something like 2 wins in 12. Grealish returned, we won 10 in a row and gained promotion. Grealish carried us, no doubt. I agree that Smith deserves massive credit for improving Grealish.
  19. There are 2 facts to consider with Dean Smith. 1. We have improved considerably in the three years since he was appointed (mid table Championship team to mid table Premier League team). 2. His record without Grealish is poor at best (even in the Championship). Both points are true, and I think it’s really difficult to judge what to do. I look at Brentford since Smith left, and Thomas Frank has unquestionably taken them onto another level - are they better than us after we’ve spent £300m in the past 3 years? Smith no longer has Grealish to rely on, so I think his record without Grealish becomes more relevant. I read earlier that our record this calendar year is 8 wins in 28 league games. Most of those matches were without Grealish. Worrying. I’m sure that our form towards the end of last season hasn’t been forgotten by the board. I personally think he’s taken us as far as he can (the Wolves match sounded major alarm bells), but I’ve got no idea who could take us into the top 8 and maybe further.
  20. I think we have to thank Smith for his 3 years, but he’s not taking us any further. I really don’t have a clue who could replace him, but that’s not my job fortunately.
  21. We’ve regressed so much since last season. No real playing style still. Everything looks panicked.

    Louie Barry

We can’t recall him outside of the transfer window.

    The NSWE Board

I’ve had a look through and I can’t find it. It might have been a series of tweets rather than an article, but I think it was from one of the local journalists.

I’ll see if I can find it.
