There hasn't been continuity from the last manager to this one. Gerrard's system doesn't utilise wingers, we spent £30,000,000 on Bailey last summer. That on top of the money spent on Traore the summer before. Were your point to be correct, the manager we hired after Deano would play something similar to the 4-2-3-1 system which in some fashion fits last summers signings. As others have said though, our recent transfer success has been mixed, at best. Alex Berwick on Twitter articulates this really well.

Its been an absolute shit show from Watford on opening day onwards. The malaise with the international call ups, formation **** ups, trying to shoe horn Ings and Watkins into the same team, constant injuries, terrible home form, managerial change, I could go on. I've not really enjoyed the season and am very much looking forward to a fresh Aston Villa in August.

Purely from the eye test, he's one of the worst players I've seen in a Villa shirt. But, the goals? I can't explain them. He's an enigma for sure.

The basic. The **** basics. Both goals we conceded were our fault, basic errors. Ings missing two absolute sitters, basic errors. Can sign all the players we like, if we can't do the basics, we're forever ****. It's so frustrating.
