    Yeah, so as I thought. If he has an absolutely amazing six months with us and value rockets, we can still buy him for pre-agreed price but other clubs would need to offer what his performances reflect. Cheers!

    Could someone please explain the furore around the "option to buy"? I get that it means we have a pre-arranged price in place if we want to buy the player. However, what if another team decide they want him too and offer more money? Surely either Barca can accept the higher bid also, or Coutinho can simply say no to us and then force Barca into accepting the other offer? Ergo, I don't get it.

    It's learned behaviour. I don't blame any fan for being wary of expensive signings, or failed signings, or mercenary signings. The last 20 years have been nothing but near misses, possible extinction, disappointment and anti-climax. Fans have become susceptible to this and being "okay" is a safer place to be than striving for excellence with the possibility of not achieving it. I really think the Lerner era hit fans harder than most understand.

    If this happened, it signals the end of playing Ings and Watkins in same 11. One of them up front, Buendia and Coutinho behind. Then the three centre mids. (I am very happy with this by the way).

    So much drivel in this thread. He's new to a team that is notoriously difficult to make immediate impacts in. He likes a beer, Micah Richards said David Silva was a notorious party-goer in that fantastic City team. City gave Jack a six year contract anticipating a settling in period. This thread reeks of people praying the girl that dumped them will put on 50lbs and develop facial hair. He's a fantastic footballer. He's more likely to win a Ballon D'or than he is come back to Villa. (Ballon D'or may be a stretch, but PFA Player of The Year didn't carry the same gravitas).

    No one has been brilliant this season. Horrendous preseason, losing Jack, Copa America, injuries, illness, complete change of coaching staff and new manager. If you were to bin off everyone who has ben off form there would be no-one left. Even Martinez hasn't been up to last season's standards. Given the above events, Watkins has been fine, as @stevo985 said.

    Erm, no. Competition is fine. Shoehorning Watkins on to the left to allow him and Ings to both play is impacting Watkins.

    Said it before, will say it again. Ings should be sold and we either have faith in Archer as back up or we go out and buy a young, up and coming quality striker who is happy to be on the bench and learn his trade. Ings was a panic buy and it's impacting on Watkins massively.

    Last January when lockdown kicked in I went booze free. Did four months in the end. I'll be doing the same next year I reckon!
