  1. Are you gonna mention his Championship promotion too? I did in the first sentence if you care to re-read. The second time of going down was the complete deflation of a team who had just beaten a CL side in the Carling Cup final, an 0wner being investigated for irregularities on the HKSE, and so forth... Reminicent of Portsmouth a couple of years back I suppose....
  2. Yes, the rest will go on surcharges or services done by the board.... Being seriously ripped off here. The more people stay away from games, the sooner the board will rethink these issues.
  3. Seeem to forget that he also won the Carling cup, and brought up a pretty dodgy Blues side, finnishing 9th or so the season before. Also got Rangers through to a uefa cup semis,.... and so on. Failure seems to be a question of definition, and what some would consider a failure, others would consider a success. Mixed record seems to be the most appropriate term we could agree on here.
  4. My sentiments exactly! Looking to things getting better in the comming year. Wish you and yours all the best.
  5. Should he play against Chelsea on Tuesday, it will be his 200th PL game.
  6. That was only the one game though. Given is known to have injury problems in the past and it wouldn`t suprise me if it takes a while for him to get back.
  7. They went down when they won the League cup. We have had that before as well, but luckily when we were winning things of that sort it came later in the season, so the deflation was not quite as bad and we did not sink into the second tier..... As for AM, the club is certainly a step up for him, I often observe the players tiring towards the end. This used to be one of our strengths, and a lot of points lost due to dodgy defending at corners or free kicks. Maybe revue of the training methods in preperation for games needed. Bet there were some Loud words on many a Monday morning this season
  8. Gabby may not be the best player ever, but he is ours, and well competent at what he does. His dedication is something to behold in the current era of footballers. Priceless. Am also actually glad he is a fringe natioinal player at best, as it is clear that he plays for us, not for the cash, fame or fortune involved in the modern game. We need more players with his attitude.
  9. Pitch looked fine on the box, but sounds like a ffeble excuse for not getting three passes together....
  10. Finding a manager to get the best of what we have for a squad will be difficult at best, and there are really no signs of any money being made available to buy the kind of player a new manager may want. So seems we will be stuck in this for some time to come. AMC is possibly the best man for the situation given. Just seems such a shame we show no desire to go forwards and actually take the game to an opposition side.
  11. Yes I also admire Herd`s development since seeing him in one of the youth tournaments here a few years back. Needs the experience, which is comming, to deal with tackles and positioning to avoid giving away silly free kicks (were a couple of instances on Sunday where he could have done better). Certainly a bright prospect, and well agile for his size. Looking more secure on the ball too. Maybe a long term replacement for Petrov (if he isn`t sold off to a Manc team...).
  12. Have every confidence that Lichaj will come good given the chance, and avoiding injury.
  13. Think that Heskey and Bannan are differing types of player. I`d bet that opposing defenders are more worried when challenging Heskey than Bannan, simply due to his physical presence, whereby Bannan`s ball distribution and eye for a pass make him a formidible challenge when he gets the ball. Difference between tea and coffee really. Down to a matter of taste. Have noticed that many opponents avoid passing to players near Heskey, which possibly accounts for the somewhat unfounded notions that he does nothing during games.
  14. Well we didn`t let in 6 goals against Newcastle for starters.....
  15. Herd in german means cooker or oven. Some of these german words are pretty schick right now, sort of zeitgeist...... Agree with CI in so far as he mentions keeping an experienced spine to the team, and let the kids have a run around. Think Weimann is up for the challenge, and Gardner could do with an outing or two. Just have to avoid them crumbling under the physican challenge to the game at top level. Maybe get them down the gym to get some of the treatment Gabby got.
  16. Agreed Hutton has not been worth the mention he gets, but surely Mellberg played a great hoof ball, even when playing out of position at RB? I`d say we are tighter defensively than last season, which is not really that difficult TBH. Shame we cannot connect play through the pitch, as would be expected from a top flight team. Without any research or stats before me I`d guess we have let in fewer goals so far this season than the equivalent amount of games last season. Scored less too....And we beat Wigan!
  17. But he did sort out the defence so far.... Given was a great buy, and Dunne is looking good again.
  18. I recon Ireland is a great player, but not for our current style of play, as he does not track back, and his tackling is pretty poor at best. He is better formed for a free role in the midfield looking for swift passing and attacking play. Not our style right now. Bit of a glory hunter who needs cover behind him.
  19. And that`s just half time! Second half they might pull one back to make it 6-1.
  20. should certainly start comming up with some football on the pitch now. Cannot continue forever with this non-style, and wasting the talent at his disposal in the interest of not loosing. Surely even he must realise that you cannot win a match without scoring a goal.
