Former Aston Villa midfielder Mike Tindall has died after a long battle with dementia and Alzheimer's, his devoted son has announced.
The 79-year-old starred for his boyhood club between 1959 and 1968 and made 120 appearances, scoring eight times including a strike in the 3-3 draw at St Andrew's against Birmingham City in the old First Division back in March 1964.
“When I go to see him he doesn’t know me from anyone in the street," he said, "but as soon as I told him Villa beat Blues 2-0 his eyes lit up and he said:, 'I remember scoring against that shower!'
"It made me laugh and brought a lump to my throat. He used to love the rivalry and used to joke that the Blues trophy cabinet was a shoebox. It was all good fun, the rivalry back then and I know he loved playing against Blues."
Last night, Dean announced that his Villa-loving dad passed away at the hospice where he was being looked after. Posting a classic photo of his dad in his claret and blue heyday in the 60s, Dean put: "RIP dad, rest easy. HEITS."
