Brain picking time... My mate needs a new phone. Basically it would be the S3, but it's too big. Ideally the Galaxy mini would be the one, but it's pretty crap for the price. What does the hive mind suggest? She's on contract btw - buying a phone outright isn't an option.

I carry a spare for my current phone, but rarely need it. That said I do also have a battery that I can plug in to the Nexus that will charge it.

I ordered my Nexus on Friday the 1st. It was shipped yesterday, i.e. the following working day. Seems like they've sorted out the supply finally.

Do that. Have a butcher's at Tom's Hardware too. They have features like 'best graphics card for the money' and stuff like that. As for where to buy, ebuyer, scan or dabs would be worth looking at. Could be that you can get away with just getting a better graphics card... Might need to get a better PSU though. Ha! Davkaus posted while I was typing...

Umm, dunno, give it a try. If you need to root your phone you don't have to reinstall everything. It just means you can access & change the under the bonnet settings.

Does your Windows button clunk? That's all you have to press to swap between start and desktop. One key. Even alt +tab is two keys. Anyway, I've just installed the enterprise evaluation version and it's quite nice. I can't understand why people are so passionate about it one way or the other. Some love, some hate, but it's pretty much win 7 with extra functionality with that start thingy on top.

Do any of you guys use ES File Explorer? It's free, you can copy/paste stuff over wifi, it's a dropbox/sugarsync etc client, it's an ftp client, it's an MD5 checker, it can unzip files. It has a built in music player and can stream stuff over wifi from your network storage. It's absolutely bloody awesome. I use it every single day.

Cheers for the phone tips guys. Kinda what I was thinking. She got the Galaxy Y in the end as she needed a phone today. It'll see her through the next 2 weeks until she gets her Note, then she'll have an emergency backup phone.

You have a regular phone, but with a flexible display. No difference in daily use until you drop it and it doesn't shatter. Also from a manufacturing pov, it's less likely to break between the beginning of the production line and your pocket.

Well, it needs to be an android smartphone - she uses it for work (self employed) lots of writing, hence the note.

Quick phone buying advice guys. My mate needs to get a budget android sim free phone for the next two weeks, to then keep as a spare. She's currently got an S2 with a buggered screen, but 2 weeks left on her contract (when she'll get a Note 2) Current thoughts are Galaxy Y for £90. Anything better value that you can think of?

What D1 said. I used to love this game, but stopped playing when my kin split, followed by my BB connection being unpredictable for a six week stretch. Really friendly community.
