  1. Imagine winning the lottery and being told you can only spend a percentage of what you earn annually because sometimes people win the lottery and spend irresponsibly and run into financial trouble. A soft cap type solution is the answer here, with the further a team goes over the cap, the more thoroughly they have to show how they can afford to cover all their liabilities.
  2. Depends on the shade and design. This was my favourite kit from the World Cup
  3. I see no reason why FFP couldn't be softened from a hard cap to a soft cap. Teams should be able to spend whatever they like, but if going over the soft cap, they need to demonstrate to the Football League that they can afford to cover all their financial liabilities if the owner suddenly stops investing. If that means the owner putting money into holding accounts to cover wages for a set period, fine. Protecting clubs from folding is incredibly important, but it shouldn't come at the cost of stopping clubs that can afford to invest from doing so.
  4. I don't even think we got out of 2nd gear but we totally controlled that game, should have probably had 1 or 2 more. 10 wins on the bounce, just an amazing effort for all concerned really. Phenomenal in such a competitive league.
  5. I think we're playing fairly conservatively, we're well in control. As others have said, we seem to go out wide when we've got some room in the middle. Kodjia probably should have done better with that ball where he was past the defenders, but overall we've been really solid.
  6. All the talk about the crypts makes me think the Night King is going to raise all the dead Starks in the crypts during the battle. They spent that whole episode setting that up. Also the Brienne moment was fantastic but she's surely gonna die now
  7. While there is still so much to happen, the action is really concentrated in a couple of places now instead of spread out over lots of different storylines. As such I imagine 6 eps will be enough. Interesting start, and as others have said, really fast paced for GoT. Well set up for the rest of the series.
  8. Phew! We were really good given the players that were out. Had it not been for a fairly astonishing keeping performance from O'Leary we'd have scored 4 or 5.
  9. Thank f*** for that! El Ghazi has been great down that left wing this half
  10. The Liberal-National Coalition in Australia has spent every election campaign for the past 2 decades scaremongering about race and "national security" concerns re immigration and refugees, and they've just called an election for May 18, so it's again going to get ugly. A few elections ago, the Liberals had campaigned so hard on xenophobic border security that Labor, instead of taking the lead and doing something humane, decided to just match and even strengthen the Coalition border security policy, which puts refugees arriving by boat in indefinite offshore detenion camps. It's f***ed. I guess Trump, Bolsonaro, Brexit et al shows that it's happening everywhere but it's incredibly grim.
  11. If you can't jump to where you want to get without risking a handball, then you probably shouldn't be jumping that far. These handball incidents are always players throwing themselves into a block and then blocking the ball with their arms and then claiming they couldn't have possibly known. It's your responsibility to block a shot without using your arms. It's not complicated. I actually think it'll go the other way. Refs tend to be intimidated by big clubs and might give them the benefit of the doubt in live action, but if the VAR officials who don't have as much pressure on them see something, they can give the ref a look from a bunch of different angles so he can be sure of his decision.
  12. Might end up being the other way around though long term for whoever gets it, I doubt it will be us because of our current owners. On the face of it, there's a lot more potential value in an English club where you play lots of interesting high quality fixtures at domestic level than in France where they're currently 26-3-1 with a +71 GD over 30 games.
  13. Such a beautiful goal. So well rounded. It's just wonderful to watch him play football in a Villa shirt week in week out.
  14. I think it was a penalty, but some common sense could have prevailed in terms of the second yellow. The penalty was surely enough of a punishment there for that sort of handball. Hopefully he's refreshed after the game off and comes back firing.
  15. Remember when he signed for Kiddy and we were all talking about how Villa should pick him up as a prospect? He's become a fantastic player at this level and you feel like he could play Premier League football. If the option becomes available to us, we should absolutely sign him.
  16. God, the difference Grealish makes to our fortunes and my general outlook on life! We've still got some work to do but teams would be really worried about facing us at the moment. When we've had Jack fit since Smith took over, we've looked a class above every team we've played against.
  17. Phenomenal mental strength to get yourself up to score in a derby after an incident like that.
  18. The only option in a situation like that is to abandon the game, and then the EFL would have to make a ruling about the result.
  19. Completely natural in terms of the movement he's making, but in jumping as high and as far as he could to block the shot, he isn't able to control his arms and blocks the shot with his elbow. They pay them like this all the time. Nobody deliberately handles the ball in the box. The onus is on the defender to not touch the ball with an arm that is away from his body. A long jumper might have stopped the ball with his chest there, but a long jumper doesn't have to worry about where his arms are when blocking a shot in the box. If you can't block the ball legally, you can't block the ball.
  20. If he'd been facing the ball he might have seen the shot coming and been able to move his arm out of the way. Turning is an important term there, why did he turn? He was making a movement where he sacrificed control over his arms to make a blocking attempt and in doing so stopped the ball with his elbow. In the context of what is and isn't usually paid as a handball, it's miles away. With his back turned, in the box, blocking an attempt on goal. He loses all argument regarding his intent when he turns his back and has his arm away from his body. His intent was to block the ball, and it's his responsibility to do that without using only his arm. Look at his other hand up in the air, would it have been a handball if it had hit that one?
  21. I have no problems with it. He's jumped to block the ball. His arm was well away from his torso and it's hit him cleanly in the forearm, nowhere near his body or leg. It's unlucky but you have to keep your arm tucked in there. You can't turn your back and flail your arm about and then claim you didn't know.
