    Relegation

I had alot of faith in Lambert, I had alot of faith in our young players - I still believe with the right experience around them, a few could flourish. But without that experience, which does not look like it is forthcoming. This once great club, a mainstay in the top flight of premiership football will be going down. Todays game really hit hard with me. I honestly see no way out and im devastated. Reasons for hope, Ron Vlaar being fit again. I think we need Dunne aswell as much as I think he is way past his best, he is a leader with vast experience. We need orders barked at these inexperienced kids. We desperately if nothing else need a strong midfielder. Relegation is something I have not once even considered for us during the last 21 years as a fan, not even last year. Whatever happens UTV.
  3. I think having Lowton (who I think has looked good) and Bennett as attacking full backs will be good for us, young, quick, attack minded. I think Vlaar and Dunne should be the central pairing for experience for these younger lads to play alongside. He will be better than Warnock from what ive seen and he will be hungry to impress. Welcome aboard Joe.
  4. I am in agreement that I think Ireland will be our key player this season. Always knew he had it in him, im glad we have a manager now who I believe will get the best out of him. Another bad appointment and he would of re-made his name for another club and we would be left licking our wounds. Talented footballer, needs confidence and looks asthough he has that again now.
  5. More like Withe, Morley, Mortimer. Unsworth didnt play and isnt he from manchester? And Warnock is the best left back to ever play for Villa... I joke obvs.
  6. Scousers do well at Villa, fact, sign him up. Never seen him play. I trust Lambert if this turns out to be true. Mirror though so unlikely.
  7. Anyone know if this will be able to be replayed on AVTV later? As I cant view it at work but want to see the whole game. How did Carruthers play first half lads?
  8. Really hope we sign this lad, just 22, looks like he is very talented and for £2.5 million, this could be the cheap foreign signing that turns out to be a star we dream of making. Can not help but feel its just a rumour though or his agent stirring up interest..
  9. Id definately like to see Lambert give the lad a proper chance, he is still young and has shown great promise in the past!
  10. So frustrating to see people moaning (a minority admittedly) Lambert is such a good appointment for us. I can only assume that these people really have some deluded idea that we will employ a fancy foreign name and base their opinions on managers and probably players if they have a mystique that surrounds them. Paul Lambert has been successfull since he started management, he has done wonders at Norwich and was also a successfull player, he knows how to win. His record in my eyes is ten times better than Rodgers and Martinez put together. And we have what I believe has always been our main target. AVB would of been my dream choice as I think he has the makings to be truly great but he is beyond our level. With Lambert we will be back where we belong and thats top 6, pushing the top 5.
  11. AVB would definately be the choice for me in the same way Ancelotti was last time ie. not happening.
  12. I dont particularly take the fact he was groomed by Ferguson as a given he will be any good. Roy Keane. But from his stats and the small amount he has done, his vision of how football should be played excites me more than getting a run of the mill journeyman manager of the old guard ala Curbishley for eg. We have young players, we potentially have a young squad. Few quality additions and a few overpaid past its out and we will have an OK season I believe, then we can build properly.
  13. Bookies top 5 are; 1. Solsksjaer 2. Paul Lambert 3. Roberto Martinez 4. Marcelo Bielsa 5. Nigel Adkins Would be very happy with any of them to be honest, they are all fairly young, forward thinking managers, very much part of the new breed of manager around at the moment and they would make me excited for the new season. We want good football first and foremost, the rest will follow.
  14. this. Warnock, Collins and Hutton and Dunne (past it) need to be moved on asap.
  15. Out of the managers linked id choose 20/1 shot Marcelo Bielsa (he seems abit mad but of the Guardiola mold with very interesting approach to the game, he will not be coming though) secondly Villa-Boas (destiny surely, he has Villa in his name, first purchase David Villa?). He did not do well at Chelsea but he had an old arrogant squad, with a younger team I think he'd excel but again this is a long shot. Out of the more realistic targets id choose Lambert over Martinez. Im just not convinced with Martinez, Wigan are absolutely awful for most of the season but he gets the motivation to have a good run and escape, I do not believe they consistently play good football over the course of the season, if he does become the man though he is definately a 100% improvement on Mcleish. Anyone like Mclaren, Mccarthy (would be worse than Mcleish), Curbishley etc would finish it for me. Id paid a passing interesting in the fortune of our club this season due to that absolute disaster of a manager ill admit and if any similar type manager is appointed, I dont see me paying much attention again. I want someone with new ideas and a fresh approach to the game, young, determined, forward thinking.
  16. I had a dream, he was a Villa player and he scored one of the goals of the season. Consider that ITK
  17. Ignoring all the hysteria and day dreaming, wouldnt it be great IF McLeish did take over, he guided us to a champions league placing in the league. What a better way to stick it to our scummy neighbours by getting into the holy grail with their own manager whom by all accounts they seem pretty cut up about losing. Still this is all still paper talk and all I read as he is being interviewed and is a possible candiate, just like im sure there will be other considerations. I agree with the board in that with all mindless hate out of the window, is the potential manager good for the job? Does he fit the criteria and do they believe he will succeed? Thats for them to decide, not me. Ive never seen the point of dispelling someone or something untill signs show its not working. He could be great for us, he could be awful, suppose we may find out which sooner rather than later..
  18. Please let it be Ancelotti with Wilkins as his assistant. And regarding Hughes, my mate in london is doing the plumping at his massive new house he has just bought. He is currently spending alot of money on this house. Doesnt mean anything but would someone be doing that if they were leaving, obviously things change and im sure he is not short of cash but still.. I hope for Ancelotti, what a record, one of the biggest manager names in football, would be a coup!
  19. Aggy off, Albrighton on. Downing left where he plays best, simple.
  20. Houllier is the most successfull manager we will have appointed in a very long time. Some fans completely deluded and downright moronic comments are pathetic and embarassing for the club. We can not attract a higher calibre of manager and should be greatful we have a manager who has consistently won things. Yes he made some bad signings... But compare, Beye, Salifou, Sidwell, Heskey, Agathe etc etc. Look at Benitez, how many absolute duds did he buy? Houliers bad buys you could realistically count on one hand. All the whingers about Houllier, wake up, grow up and support your football team and board who have tried nothing but their hardest for Aston Villa. UP THE VILLA and let's look forward to seeing what Houllier can do.
  21. General, I don't post much never mind in this section, really appreciate you doing this for us fans and responding in such a direct manner. Im going to resort to begging that the board do absolutely everything in their power to get Ottmar Hitzfeld as the new manager. This is the sort of appointment that would blow all the negativity out of the water!
  22. After reading that from Jurgen Klinsmen I would really like to see him given a chance. You have to love germans and their philosophical approach to things. Right across the board they are forward thinking and I really would like to see us adapt to this train of thought. Plus germany have an abundance of talent, and talent that would fit right into the premiership, having such a legend would do no harm in attracting such players. The futures bright, the futures german!
