  1. Annoying that we failed to produce anything when Hodgson is on MOTD tonight. I was hoping Gabby would grab one to show him up a bit. Dull performance, but we were defensively pretty solid. Strange that I've just finished watching yet I seem to have forgotten most of it. A point's better than nothing I suppose. 3 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw, decent start.
  2. Not a great bench, no real game changers there. Maybe Tonev if we're trailing and need someone to take some shots and perhaps Sylla if we're getting walked over. Hopefully we won't be in such a desperate situation though.
  3. I'm in the "think he'll come good for us eventually" camp. I think the most frustrating thing with him at the moment is decision making. More often than not, when he attempts a long shot, there's always been a better option available, i.e. a good pass, and the shot ends up fizzling out the attack. Once he settles in a bit more then I'm sure that he'll know when to unleash one, as it seems at the moment that he's still finding his feet, playing in one of the most intense/difficult leagues in the world, so he's playing very 'panicky'. IMO, he had a much better game against Spurs in the Cup the other week. He produced an absolute peach of a cross and attempted a long strike at the perfect time and caught Friedel off guard. If someone was in the box in the right place then they could have possibly got on the rebound. Once he's had more game time and has settled/begun to relax a bit, I reckon he'll become a decent player for us.
  4. Winning tomorrow will be a huge boost. That'd mean 3 wins on the bounce, 4 wins in total from 7 games. It'll take the sting away from a loss against Spurs (not guaranteed though, you never know!) and will have given us a rather good start to the season considering what we've had to face. Realistically, I think that around 13-16 points is do-able, which would put us on 22-25 points. That'd be a pretty healthy return and set us up nicely for December. There's some important (winnable) games around December/New Year so a good points tally before then would see us with a good shot at achieving that upper mid-table finish that we crave.
  5. Hope he's back for tomorrow (only if it's risk-free of course, in terms of injury). He's the kind of player who will cause Hull a lot of problems with his pace.
  6. Still haven't quite gotten over this win. I still have a smile on my face every time I think back to Saturday! It's not just the 3 points that were so important, but the statements it made. We won a game without Benteke and shut the doubters up, and it wasn't just any game either, it was facing Champions League and title contenders. Our entire squad costs a tiny fraction of what theirs does, so beating a side that is financially way ahead of us (and a side that rely on finance so much) through sheer hard work and determination is massive. City looked arrogant and complacent, as though this would be a walk in the park for them, yet Villa looked passionate about giving it 100%. You could see what it meant to our players when they scored. El Ahmadi runs to celebrate with the bench, Bacuna straight to Lambert, and Weimann with arms out wide infront of the Holte with a huge smile on his face. You can see how much it really means to them and just what a true team this is, not just a collection of expensive, overpaid players thrown onto the pitch. I love how, for once, the Midlands comes out on top over the 2 Manchester clubs that are always such media sweethearts and won't have a bad word said about them. Moments like this, no matter how few and far between wins against teams like this may be (although, you never know...), really emphasise what a club this is. We may not have the quality in the squad that the top 6 clubs have, but we have a hell of a lot of team spirit.
  7. This'll most likely be a lot tougher than we expect. Playing these newly promoted teams infront of their home crowds can be tricky, as it'll most likely be packed out (though I haven't seen their home attendances so far so I could be wrong) and the fans will be very vocal and trying their best to make it a real fortress. Fortunately for us, our away form is what we seem to really thrive off, and surely (if we play in the usual formation) our front 3, even without Benteke, should be a bit much for them to handle. We'll need a solid defensive performance, but if we take our chances and play good counter-attacking football then we really should be winning this. I reckon 2/3-1 to Villa.
  8. Redskins have started to switch it on a little in that 2nd quarter. Praying that we pull this off, 0-4 would be balls
  9. Defying the odds like this feels awesome doesn't it Everything was pointing towards a City win today, and being able to turn it around whilst missing 2 of our most important players is an achievement and a half. Proving wrong the doubters who thought that we'd be f**ked without Benteke (can't wait to have him back though) is just what we needed to do.
  10. Didn't have the best of games overall, but an assist and a sublime free-kick kind of makes me forget about that. Makes me feel that he just needs to continue growing into the game like he's doing. There's something about him that's for sure, very happy for that lad!
  11. Mourinho said after the match that the referee's decision was wrong and that he should be very "upset" with that. I wonder if he'll get fined.......
  12. Jesus christ, I can breathe again now. When even the missus is screaming you know it's a great result! Very slow start but what a second half from the lads. We didn't dominate the game by any means but it just goes to show, when you take your chances and keep fighting til the final whistle, you can hand it to teams that are financially and on paper lightyears ahead. Awesome result, UTV!
  13. Can't concede that many corners and expect them to not score. Looking a bit toothless in attack and very sloppy in our passing, the thing is, our bench doesn't look particularly strong so I'm not sure who I'd bring on, Tonev so we can at least have a shot maybe ? Done okay to keep it down to one though.
  14. i'm a tad nervous, it doesn't look like we have nearly enough firepower, but I guess we'll see.
  15. If we give them as much space as we've given everybody else so far this season then they can destroy us. Tighten things up at the back and catch them on the counter and there's a possibility of us nicking something here, or at the least just give them a very good game.
  16. It's a massive, massive blow for us, but I agree the timing could definitely be worse. Now is really the time for Weimann, Gabby and Kozak to step up to the plate and prove that we aren't the one man team that everybody thinks we are. It's true that we're a better side with him and he provides the greatest threat, which is obvious because he's a class player that would be an improvement to any team, but the rest of our strike force needs to use this bit of sh*t news to show that we can still be competitive without him, which is probably what we'll be next season.
  17. Coming back from Uni for this one, let's hope it's worth it! I can't see him playing a 2nd string team for this. We were pretty much at full strength for Rotherham so I can't see why he wouldn't do the same here. Kozak will no doubt be in for Benteke so it'll be interesting to see what he can do with his first start.
  18. He seems to be football in general lacks, a true professional. He doesn't make a song and a dance about it when he's tackled, he carries on playing when most players would probably have gone off, and the determination to come back on that he was showing is something that's great to see, a young player who is eager to just do nothing but get up there and play (even though the fact that he was injured like that in the first place is a massive kick in the bell). Let's wish him a speedy recovery from whatever it turns out to be and hope to see him banging them in left, right and centre again soon.
  19. Glad that he finally got the clean sheet that he deserves. There's been so many games where the end result doesn't reflect his brilliant performances. Dominates his area and a great personality in the team. We may still have defensive issues, but I'm effin' glad we have a rock like him between the sticks.
  20. Definitely agree with everybody saying he looked better at RB. I really think Lambo should settle on that as his position from now on so he can develop it. It's good to have a versatile player, but I can't help but think of the "jack of all trades" expression, so it'd make sense to keep him at RB and really work on him becoming solid in that position. It's great to know that he will be able to step into the midfield to help should he have to if we had a problem with injuries, but Bacuna at RB from now on please did very well today.
  21. I like how quickly we pressed. Had an effort at about 50 seconds in, so I assume they all had a grilling about starting slowly. Guzan definitely gets MOTM for me. A penalty save when we feared the usual, an absolute cracker of a save later on in the game and a general solid performance. Bacuna looks as though RB could be his better position, although him and Lowton will really be fighting for that position if Lowton returns to form. Kozak getting the goal in his 2nd game was fantastic and will hopefully do wonders for his confidence. It still wasn't exactly Villa firing on all cylinders but it's brilliant to come away with 3 points and that little bit sweeter to get the clean sheet. UTV!
  22. Perhaps someone would be interested in this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-PUSSY-WAGON-TAXED-TESTED-STI-CLEAR-/161107374385 Looks quite good according to the item description/Q&A
  23. He's only really been brought on late in a game, when we're chasing and trying to grab a goal (apart from Rotherham), so it's almost as though he's coming on with a massive sense of urgency and to take pot shot, hoping one of them goes in. It'd be good to see him get a longer run out without the need to get something so quickly, so that we can really see what kind of player he is. It's obviously a risk to start him but it'd be good to see him get some proper game time.
