Yep. But then that's kind of the nature of a site like this. I think a few people have been a bit harsh writing Gollini off so soon as Ive seen some good bits along the way. Enough to want to persevere with him, and certainly ahead of Bunn. That doesn't mean he's above criticism. Also I'm not SB so I don't get to know what he knows. Maybe it's brilliant man management taking him out of the firing line for a few weeks and it will be the making of the lad? Who knows? I'd say Friedel was the last good keeper we had. Schmeichel, Bosnich, Spink would be up there in the top bracket in my lifetime/memory. Sorensen, James, Guzan were fine on a good day but hardly comparable to the other 4 imho. I had a soft spot for Les Sealey. Other than that I wouldn't get too excited about the rest.

I honestly think that says more about the keepers we've had in that time than it does about VTers to be fair.

Not sure what Dzecko or Huntelaar have done to be spoken of in the same breath as Nilis to be fair Total class above.

I get this as an idea. if we had any options at LB that weren't Cissokho or Bacuna but it kind of highlights the problem doesn't it that it could be argued that our best left midfielder is probably our left back?

We might not like our striking options or RB or CM but we don't have an out and out left midfielder in the squad at all and I for one would be very pleased with this if they manage to fend off the inevitable interest from PL clubs.

Just my opinion of course but one Ive held consistently. I found the praise for his performance a few weeks ago against QPR a little odd considering they had no shots on target and Smithies at the other end put on a performance which stood out, Kodjia beating him at the near post aside. I obviously prefer Gollini out of the two but I'm not blinded by that and it's obvious Gollini has made a few mistakes along the way this season. Bunn has always looked suspect to me from Notts County onwards.

I thought the idea was find midfielders who can both pass and shoot? Delph would walk into our midfield purely on his ball retention skills alone, just like he did when he was here but he would be disappointing in the final 3rd, just like he was when he was here.

Weird one at the moment the GK dept. We have Gollini, who at 21 shows a lot of promise as far as i'm concerned. Steer who is now 24 has never really been given much of a chance and out for the rest of the season injured anyway, a 32 year old Bunn with 6 months left on his contract who, to be fair, is pretty awful. And now Johnstone on loan until the summer. If something behind the scenes means Gollini is off back to Italy whatever happens then it's irrelevant. But I hope he doesn't leave permanently or with any option to buy on a loan unless it's for clear profit. Bunn's not getting a new contract by the looks of things. Johnstone may/may not want to be here after the summer but letting Gollini go could mean starting pre season with Steer as our only goalkeeper. I know we'll have time and money for reinforcements come the summer, but it's all a bit of a mess really isn't it. here's hoping Johnstone is as good as his reputation.

Gotta be realistic when it comes to Gabby and it's hard because people care and he obviously stopped some time ago. But it does seem sometimes people think he was wrong for odd things like signing the contract he was offered, which we would all do in a heartbeat. The club have made some massive errors in recent history, contract extensions for Gabby, Hutton etc are right up there, but we have a footballer, a not very naturally gifted rather out of shape one, but a footballer in contract until next summer and not to play him would be a strange move for a manager in Bruce's position. My big fear is we actually see Gabby try in the next 18 months but then I wonder how many times down the years he suddenly finds some form when it's contract renewal time? Whether or not he finds himself, or some form, or a club that cares about either of those things is pretty irrelevant to me personally and to where we as a club are claiming we want to be. But he will always be part of the family. Maybe he's the Uncle you don't talk to anymore after he pissed you off at Christmas once too often. He'll be remembered a lot more fondly when you don't have to actually put up with him.

Same with Bunn and Kozak I believe.
