It’s a bit depressing, we’ve sold 30-45 million worth of youth this season, and spent roughly ?80 million on new signings. Emerys hardly spent big in two transfer windows now. And that’s with us finishing 7th last year. Newcastle I understand being tight Howes spent 400 odd million since he’s arrived with very few sales in that time. Difficult to become a top 6 team unless you sell one of the best players in your team, likely to a team above you who’ll spent double what you spend per window because they’re a top 6 team.

Big fan of JJ but he’s been miles off it, and we were sat second mid December without any substantial input from him in our starting 11.

Of course he can improve, I’ve not said otherwise. The answer for me is not for him to be smarter though, and definitely not give defenders a harder time. The system and how Ollie performed in the first half of the season was perfect, now teams have clocked how we play, and up top we’re less effective. We want to control games, every situation is coached and the majority of our goals are perfectly worked chances in the box, you can’t do that every game. Did Ollie give tarkowski and brainthwite a hard time? Nothing came of that either. Ollies way of making things happen is dropping deep to create space and pull a defender with him, and he does it well. Ollie and Ivan play in two very different teams with different methods of attacking in the final third.

Smarter how though? His overall game has improved this season, 8 assists in the league is excellent. I don’t think there’s anything different Ollie can do when the reason he’s not getting chances starts from the defence, Everton for example he’s chasing long balls and battling tarkowski for knock downs. He’s been working smarter since Emery arrived, I just think we need to evolve even more in the final third and how we get there

This is it I think and that’s why it’s hard to criticise Ollie etc he’s not missing chances, he’s not getting them. The most he’s on the ball atm is on our half way line

I’m not worried about Ollie, I’m worried about our lack of attacking threat due to how we’re trying to create chances which isn’t working

Signed just when things went to shit, barely played under Gerrard. Then played every game when Unai came in last year. I’d imagine most including myself would have said the same about bailey. The way we play now, and the way teams are setting up against us now a player like Buendia would be brilliant

Needs to be a point in games where we stop trying to play through the middle of teams with 11 men behind the ball, or 10 yesterday. Morenos in miles of space and we’re passing it between centre backs, then bailey gets the ball out wide and creates the chance which wins us the game.

I looked at his bundesliga highlights yesterday and most of his goals are actually from central areas/runs, the big difference id say is the quality of teams and possibly how we create chances.

To be fair to Diaby we’ve taken a winger and placed him in a central role beside Watkins. We’ve got probably one of the fastest players in the league and the majority of his gameplay is receiving the ball with his back facing the goal.

Something I’ve not seen much about is the fact Liverpool are losing Salah for AFCON, he’s been involved in over 50% of their goals
