  1. He’s performed a bit outside that system as well though. Looked the best player in MLS (doesn’t mean much I know). I think he’d do well in our side. Edit: think he’ll go to Leeds so irrelevant really!
  2. Can take a set piece as well, just imagine that...
  3. I’d love to see us drop £20m on Harrison for the left wing and play Grealish as our 10. Imagine he will end up at Leeds though, it looked ‘as good as’ a loan to buy last summer even though I don’t think it technically was.
  4. I never dream about football but I had a dream last night of a lovely piece of skill he did vs Fulham to set up a goal, so let’s see if I can predict the future. McGinn to Watkins to a tap-in for someone coming in late... I missed the scorer though sorry.
  5. I think it’s because the general standard of defending is so much higher (partly because of not being able to clatter people)... those players now are so well marshalled, have been studied on video in multiple training sessions, and when they start grabbing the match by the scruff of the neck just get somewhat shut down - it’s more a team game than it ever was in some ways. But the influence of the individual is still crucial, just look at Jack. So in short: I don’t know what point I am trying to make.
  6. I am disappointed he’s not doing anything in League 2, but I suppose at his age Watkins was loaned out to non-league so he has time yet.
  7. Or Watkins left, Grealish central, Traore right.
  8. So you’re saying we win whatever happens.
  9. If we are at the point that a % of people really think McGinn isn’t good enough to start then Smith has done an unbelievable job in terms of our progression. For my money he’s definitely a top half PL midfielder. He nearly has 100 games for us and I hope he gets 200. If he doesn’t because we find someone better, so be it, but he’s clearly a great guy to have at the club whatever.
  10. He’s brilliant, I love him. I do worry sometimes he is doing TOO MUCH work and even though that helps our defence, he needs to save some of the energy for having an extra yard to burn off a defender or be at the crucial point. But he’s had a brilliant season and I think will go from strength to strength.
  11. I’d say half the reason for the overall good performances since lockdown has been us lot not being in there tbh. Still can’t wait to get back to a game though.
  12. Exactly. The best striker Watkins has trained alongside at this point in his career is Neil Maupay. I like Maupay but I bet you can learn a lot more from a few sessions watching Kane, Sterling, Rashford etc.
  13. The worst thing about it was that the “happy birthday to you” was so so SO funny from our fans after all their anniversary nonsense. I was laughing so much. I was not laughing at full time.
  14. Yeah really weird one, as I say I was not doubting @nick76 and when I read it last night I googled and saw the articles. Somehow this one just totally passed me by and I don’t understand how!
  15. I’m not doubting you but I absolutely love Mandzukic and I read embarrassingly obsessively about Villa every day and I had never heard this until you just mentioned it. Not sure what I think of how true it is. Romano isn’t/wasn’t his agent by the way, just a ‘transfer insider’ like so many other ITKs. Still I’d have loved Mandzukic here, assuming he can still run a bit. Edit: woops, re-reading that I think you say ‘his agent, then Romano’ and I thought you were saying Romano was his agent.
  16. Yes but he is wrongly credited with it... so let’s hope the saying itself is also wrong!
  17. I don’t think he’ll play Sunday but I also don’t think the above is true. I’m sure he would have loved to go but he could be back fine on Sunday and Southgate could still have opted to name a squad based on current form and fitness, and he’s missed the last five games. If he IS back Sunday I think he’s just been unlucky with timing. Ideal for him (not us) is he plays Sunday and someone else picks up a knock and he gets the call up. Ideal for us is he gets the rest, but then he likely misses the Euros.
  18. Reminds me of Leon Osman at Everton (in terms of status not style of play). Was never really a first-choice regular but ended up playing 350 games for them. Wouldn’t surprise me to see us upgrade Trez for a winger in the summer and Anwar be fourth choice out wide next season and still play 15 games and do ok.

Mentioned by Southgate today along with Trent AA and Ayling as players who can be disappointed not to have been called up for England. So many good right backs, never seen anything like it.
  20. Deserves it but part of me thinks Southgate has just done it to drive a wedge between him and Grealish......
  21. Worry about him not getting picked for England is if Foden and others do well, I bet he won’t make the Euros squad - and that will not be good for his morale. But still I guess he’ll be 5 caps ahead of where I thought he would be this time last year.
  22. Said 9th-12th since September. Still saying 9th-12th.
  23. I can’t comment on the medical side of the impact on our team - but not being able to train for two weeks and having three games postponed and pushed into a run of two games per week immediately afterwards would have had an impact whether anyone was sick or not.
  24. Man City had a couple of players out and postponed a game. We closed the training ground for two weeks mid season and had three games postponed and crammed into a shorter time frame. Think it’s fair to say they also have a slightly deeper squad than us...
