  1. Agreed. If they had another £150m+ to spend on players and they went about signing big names. I'd see an opportunity like with Tammy or Tomori where a talented player moved on for first team football. With their ownership and unknown financial issues, there's no way they let young prospects on long contracts leave permanently this year. I also think Viera is as much of a draw as Gerrard. They are already backing their huge young talents massively, they're already getting England call ups etc. He'd likely go there. We'd need a hell of a summer to have us be the major step above Palace that we'd need to be imo. Yes, we all know we should be already far ahead of them and have the investment to break the big time etc. Etc. But if I was a young attacking talent playing for Viera, getting called up to England and my choice was Chelsea or a midtable club - I'd probably go back where I was already doing well. Between Gallagher, Guehi, Mitchell, Eze, Olise they have a great crop of upcoming talent too. Our advantages over them are pretty hidden at the moment with our performances/form and lack of anything to show for our investments plus we don't have the media hype of say Newcastle. I think it'd be a tough sell to get Gallagher.
  2. Atleti wage reports vary from over £217m last season (cut to £187m this season due to their La Liga Cap) and have also seen numbers of £130-150m reported. Conversely, we paid £51m in wages last year. Whilst ours will be on the up, we will be a long way off Atletis probable wages and their cap will likely grow a bit this year.
  3. That said though, if Gerrard goes back to the 2 8s as inverted fullbacks. The energy needed is insane. In that scenario we may aswell sell Chuk as he doesn't have it and Gallagher would be pretty perfect. Maybe then he could play with JJ in those roles. I have my doubts about the system in general but JJ and Gallagher would both be about as good as we could get for those roles. McGinn and Sanson in rotation could maybe work with it too. (McGinn of old would be perfect but perhaps just needs more regular rest in order to get his trademark stamina back)
  4. Gallagher would be great but would be so similar to Ramsey and we already have Aaron Ramsey coming through too as well as Chukweumeka. Maybe if you sell Chuk and one of the more experienced 8s like Luiz, Sanson or McGinn it'd make perfect sense to bring in Gallagher but I'd still worry that we'd end up in a Gerrard/Lampard situation where we never see the best of Ramsey or Gallagher playing them together. We should build around Ramsey. A DM and a more defensive minded 8. Allowing JJ, Buedia and Coutinho to do their thing. Kamara/Sangare/Kondogbia and Bissouma would be ideal
  5. I don't want to see us become the club that sacks managers so regularly again and in general I believe managers deserve time and atleast a summer window. But I'd be seriously tempted to move Gerrard on if it meant we got Poch
  6. We have enough inconsistent attacking players valued at around £30m. One of them is also a Brazilian trying to get his previously very promising career - where he has moved for big money - back on track. No point adding another. Ings £25m+, Watkins £33m, Bailey £33m, Buendia £38m, Coutinho £33m. Is enough , particularly with our youth prospects. If you add another to that you either go for promise/potential (Madueke) or a Top Tier striker. And even then you probably sell one. We already need to get shipped out Wesley £22m, Traore £19m (), Trez £12-15m, AEG £8-10m. Be mental to add Richarlison to this group of players.
  7. Nah he'll be around the first team. If he wasn't ready for the Prem he'd have been on loan in January once the coaches had had chance to have a look at him following his move. He also could've just stayed with Baggies and been playing all this season in the Championship. He's our one to show Chuk what happens when you commit (and to the others) if you then send him out on loan it just proves everything Carney believes about the club and why it's better to move on. More would follow (Bidace for a start). He's ready for the Prem and it's right for the club that he does
  8. Lmao no. He was getting lambasted yesterday for only being good at diving. Had made about 6 dives before his yellow card - in this first half
  9. He's not wrong but it bugs me we bought all these players with a DoF so the head coach wasn't as important and then got a Head Coach with allegedly a very different philosophy and who needs his own men in. It's not the 90s anymore and we were told this is exactly what we weren't going to do.
  10. I'm kind of hoping they do drop out of the automatic places. Play offs would be an incredible experience for him. Automatics though would mean he's a good part of a veritable Championship side. Either way, two fantastic loans for KKH this year. Hopefully we use Swindon and MK Dons again. (It hasn't been as fruitful but Cheltenham have also been great for the number of minutes they've given AJ, but perhaps the football doesn't quite match as well). Ipswich, never again.
  11. I may be wrong but this account posted about Wesley relatively early but has also had things wrong a number of times. Anyway, they say all the reports from Marseille are right. They think we want them both.
  12. The summer thread is for all the bullshit. Individual threads are where the blacklist comes in. Some people ignore this because they enjoy telling people to jot debate or discuss anything that isn't a sure thing and enjoy posting 'but it's probably not true' every 3 minutes
  13. No not really, he's a defensive-minded midfielder who happens to also want to drive play forward. But, he's young and can develop his game further and with his height, if he also bulks up a bit he could become very proficient as a more physical DM and - on the small sample size from today - also have the passing and possession based qualities Luiz has
  14. Should get game time Vs Norwich, looked bright when he came on, some progressive passes. Would like to see him more and see what he's like asserting himself physically as a DM too. But bright showing from him
  15. Buendia has to start. Iroegbunam deserves more minutes. Glad to see Marv back.
  16. For sure. Great to see Marv back. Still a weird decision following 4 losses and us starting to finally create chances
  17. Why bring Marv on with moments left. He did this with Luiz on a few weeks back when we needed a goal too. Just why? We are in control of the game finally, we just need to create and score. It's not the time for a DM is it?
  18. Buendia has changed the game. Should never have taken 79 minutes to get him on
  19. Poor decision by Mings (he's been good today though, not on his case)
