Wonder if we’ll start to see a change back to clubs having a direct striker because of likes of Haaland and Nunez coming in. The sexiness of false 9’s, deep lying strikers and wide scoring forwards that has been the craze of the last few years but it would be good to see a good old striker leading lines again.
  2. First glance I thought a good stat for him but thinking about it and looking into it it’s ok but looks better at quick glance. Very few forward players have >70 appearances over that time for various reasons, a lot aren’t playing with out and out striker, and many other reasons plus 23 goals over two seasons is an average of 11.5 per season which even by any standard is at best….”ok”
  3. Arsenal have brought Vieira from Porto, West Ham have brought Aguerd just off the top of my head of teams improving
  4. But they’ll have experience from that to counter it better next time and will likely invest as they already have started Agreed but still a threat and a squad with experience and a brilliant manager The complete unknowns, they will get better over time that’s for sure. You’re assuming everything goes extremely well for us, that both Kamara and Carlos settle quickly and are effective from day one. You’re assuming that our 2022 form dramatically improves. We have been a pretty poor team for 18 months now with only specks of quality. I think we’ve added smartly too but I think we need more and I don’t think we are as far ahead or as good as some might think
  5. So you are banking on us fluking it. You are banking on us not only being the best of the rest but also luck to get a bit more…no disrespect but that’s not the best way forward.
  6. I reckon that’s debatable Spending wise, but are they spending wisely. If Arsenal buy Raphinha and Jesus are they better than last season for example. They are buying Jesus who wants to play right wing and Raphinha whose is a right winger but they already have Saka there…I don’t understand them moves. So if Jesus plays upfront is he going to score more than Nkeitah or Lacazette did. Given we talked last season about Man City not playing with a striker yet Jesus was there playing. I don’t get what Arsenal are doing, these are quality players but they already have Saka so buying one making sense but two….so spending is great but spending wisely has to be questioned. Plus we have been one of the biggest spenders in recent years summer after summer so I’m not sure that rings true either. Depends who it is, plus I don’t just think we need a new 8, I think there a few other areas to look at as well.
  7. I don’t agree Agreed That’s a good thing and the owners aren’t here to mess around. Purslow said they were disappointed on missing out on Europe in the 20/21 season, do you really think two seasons later at the end of next season they would be happy to miss out again. They will be putting massive pressure on getting Europe this season whether we buy more or not, that’s why Gerrard was brought in. The bigger teams continue to move away from us so yes. We can’t keep adding better players re FFP without increased revenue and that needs European football and all the money that and it’s commercial money it brings. So yes time is against us.
  8. Realistically? For what? 10th place? Under any of our former regimes I say fine but these owners want more, to target Europe and bringing in Gerrard was to help us ‘try’ and achieve that. They aren’t trying for mid table mediocrity they want more and thus us the fans believe there is more. So just adding a cover LB isn’t ‘realistic’ it’s settling for midtable next season without a real try at Europe, whether we ultimately get it or not. This summer so far has been a great window with Coutinho, Kamara and Carlos but there is so much more business to do if we are to challenge for Europe.
  9. Of course! No doubt. Doesnt mean we don’t pay it to get him in for what he can do for us. Again, just being devils advocate, I can’t make my mind up.
  10. Great let’s aim for 10th. If all we buy now is a back up left back, then I’m not sure what we are expecting for the season ahead, I assume another midtable consolidation. I’m not sure that’s what the owners want or why Gerrard was brought in. I won’t be happy if the above is it.
  11. He wants to play wide right, Raphinha plays wide right, Saka plays wide right…getting a bit congested on Arsenals right wing
  12. Well I have a bizarre situation. My blood pressure is naturally slightly elevated but on the tablets I’ve been on for ages it’s well within normal range but already in 2022 I think I’ve been called into the surgery to check my blood pressure 5 times for a check yet my asthma can only be done like you as a telephone consultation. I asked why because I can take my blood pressure readings at home with the same device they have and regularly advise them if they need but I can’t do my asthma readings because I don’t have one of those fancy machines and they said because of Covid. I think they were just as embarrassed by that answer as I was perplexed. No big deal but a little bizarre.
  13. Nah he’s too old now, this isn’t a retirement home for players, we’ve already brought too many older players
  14. ~3,000 available and over 20,000 on the waiting list, even if 80% on the waiting say no they’ll still be snapped up before the season has started with the rest of the waiting list. At best you’re going to get only a handful not taken if that, I’d be surprised if any are left.
  15. Or importance to them turns to importance for us. Just being devils advocate. He’s that important to them and we aren’t much better than them, if we brought him and he became important to us, that’s a win! His price is high though! Sometimes though I’d rather pay PL tax than risk overseas player. I haven’t made my mind up about Phillips and buying him but buying a key player from a rival who could be a key player for us sounds like a good idea to me.
