I was just too young to remember it but I’m extremely proud we did that and we should celebrate it to the max that our club did it because so few clubs achieve it. I agree with you, I was just hoping the connection and love for him from Forest over the last six months might slightly blind or pressure them to buy him and not focus so much on his injury record so we could get a premium for him. Now we are likely to have to loan him out again or get a materially lower sale fee from another Championship club if the interest is there and they have sufficient money which is only likely a small amount of teams. It’s not about who likes him now, it’s knowing that Forest was likely our big fee for him, cashing in on an asset that we are unlikely to use in the future and getting likely maximum value. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be and now we will likely accept a lower fee, a loan or sits on our bench.

Easier middle ground, it doesn’t have to be flat wages. It can easily be structured to be increased based on trigger points, bonuses etc within the contract term. Achieve certain milestones and wages increase, it’s fairly easy to construct. In a very different industry and a lot less value I’ve done it for juniors who worked for me.

Wonder if we’ll start to see a change back to clubs having a direct striker because of likes of Haaland and Nunez coming in. The sexiness of false 9’s, deep lying strikers and wide scoring forwards that has been the craze of the last few years but it would be good to see a good old striker leading lines again.
