  1. Garbage manager wasting all of our best chances to win a major tournament. Move on please Gareth

The fact that he is plying his trade in the championship probably tells you all that you need to know. He’s a top man Dean and he will forever be remembered with great fondness by most villa fans but there’s absolutely no evidence that he is a top manager. It doesn’t mean we should think any less of the man though. He’s deserved his place in our history.
  3. We’ve got to get a home draw. We always seem to get drawn away.
  4. Does not matter who we draw. We are winning it this year. It’s time.
  5. Wow. You’ve really raised the baaaaa with that one! I’ll get me coat!
  6. Also we can’t forget Ugo
  7. Mark Walters was better than Daley. Sid Cowans was better than everybody!
  8. I hope you’re right but I really don’t think that you are. We’ll just have to wait and see. He isn’t strong, he isn’t fast, he doesn’t hit the ball particularly hard, he’s small and he gives the ball away a lot. He’s decent (not great) in tight spaces but he doesn’t have the pace to break away and often when he does find space he loses possession anyway. I would be much less shocked if Coutinho starts to flourish under Unai, than I would if Emi does. Hopefully they both will.
  9. The problem is. If he now has a year with a top manager and he’s still not very good, then his value will have plummeted. I don’t know how you can value him as a £40m asset. We paid less than that for him and he has been poor. I too would take £20m for him. I want him to prove me wrong but he doesn’t appear to have the raw attributes to justify his price tag.
  10. Our record of buying GK’s is utterly woeful! Goodness knows how we managed to stumble across Emi. Even a broken clock gets it right twice a day I suppose.
  11. I was only joking……I’d also keep Carlos and Boubs
  12. Bold them all apart from Emi 1 and JJ!

He’s gonna win the FA cup instead!

I agree. It was a worthwhile evening from that point of view. Unai cannot work miracles. We have players who just implode under the smallest amount of pressure. He will get it right but we must be patient.

Poor old Unai saw the real villa tonight. 11 goals conceded in last three away matches! Shudder! He needs to fix our away form fast. A point or more at Brighton on Sunday would be a great start.
  16. I thought he was decent tonight. His goal was top class.
  17. Anonymous again. I just don’t get him I’m afraid.
  18. Not a great day at the office for Ty! He was all over the place.
  19. I actually enjoyed that. Tactically we have been spot on. They look fairly devoid of ideas and we are growing into the game.
  20. Poor old John just can’t find any form. He looks totally lost out there tonight. I hope he can turn it around but it’s seeming to look less and less likely. A goal would do him the world of good.

That Man Utd team that was selected on Sunday was never going to be that effective in the press. It will be really interesting to see how we cope against Brighton next weekend as they press very well. They will certainly test us much more than Utd did.

Nice to hear you’re still going strong Mr Benn. How’s the shopkeeper? (One for the kids!)

I genuinely think that the only manager afforded any patience in probably the last 20 years was Dean. Gerrard had his dissenters from the very first day as did Bruce, Di Matteo, McLeish, Houllier to name just a few. I know that this is partly due to really poor appointments and also a depressed period of pretty awful form but we, I include myself in that, can be very impatient. We all think we know better than the bloke qualified to do the job and whom spends every day with the players. We are all guilty of thinking that the bloke who’s not getting picked is much better than the incumbent. We have had a rough trot over the past 15 years or so. I understand why people are impatient but it really is totally counter productive. We are basically self harming!

This is a key moment for our football club. I have supported Villa for nearly 40 years. Emery is easily the best qualified manager that we have hired during that time. He is absolutely levels above any manager that we have had for decades. He also appears to be a really good guy. It really has to be now for us. If this guy can’t get us going, then it is completely broken. Hopefully the fans will recognise this and get right behind him. I actually think that our supporters could be the biggest barrier to success. He will be backed by the board and he will evolve the squad appropriately but if the supporters aren’t patient, there’s a chance that things won’t work out. For what it’s worth, I really get a feeling that this is going to be a success. It will take time and this season in particular is going to continue to be frustrating. We may have to wait a while for his first win but we have to remain focused on the bigger picture. This guy improves football teams. This guy wins trophies. This guy knows more than any one of us fans. Let’s get behind him and play our part.
