The pay-off consisted of cash and pension payments as well as an allowance for legal fees and the use of a chauffeur-driven car, according to two people with knowledge of her compensation. It also included clawback clauses, described by one of the two people as “substantial”. These entitle NI to recover some of the payment from Ms Brooks in certain circumstances... Shurely not. That would suggest they might be trying to influence her testimony in some way, which would be quite out of character for NI. Solicitor Mark Lewis said the claims were filed against publisher Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) on Monday. The four claimants include former England football manager Sven-Goran Eriksson. Trinity Mirror, which owns MGN, said it had no comment. A spokesman for the newspaper group added: "We are unaware action has been taken at the High Court." The three other claimants are Coronation Street actress Shobna Gulati; Abbie Gibson, a former nanny for the Beckham family; and Garry Flitcroft, the former captain of Blackburn Rovers football team. Until now the UK phone hacking scandal has centred on Rupert Murdoch's News International, publisher of the Sun, and the now closed News of the World. This is the first legal action in the scandal against another newspaper group. Mr Lewis told the BBC that he would not be revealing what level of financial compensation his clients were seeking. The phone hacking scandal resulted in the government setting up the independent Leveson Inquiry, led by Lord Justice Leveson. Andy Coulson appears in court on perjury charge Former Tory spin doctor and News of the World editor Andy Coulson has appeared in court charged with perjury. The 45-year-old made a private appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court on June 13, where he made no plea or declaration and was granted bail by Sheriff John McCormack. Mr Coulson was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Advocates, Richard Keen QC. But a contempt of court order was granted banning any media coverage of the short hearing. The order was challenged by various media outlets and a further hearing took place at the court today. After submissions made by Roddy Dunlop QC for the media and James Wolffe QC for Mr Coulson, Sheriff McCormack lifted the order. Mr Coulson was detained at his London home in May this year and driven more than 400 miles by officers from Strathclyde Police to Glasgow. He was held at Govan police station where he was questioned and later charged. Coulson became editor of the now defunct News International paper in 2003, before he resigned in 2007. I should think Tommy, imprisoned on the evidence of Mr C, is spending his time right now working up a case against Mr C for damages for imprisonment, damage to reputation, loss of earnings, and anything else he can do him for in the event of Mr C being found guilty of extending the truth a smidgin past breaking point.
