billy_loes
Im just saying that its down to us fans just to sing the songs not for all us to have hymn sheets before the game and wait for the music to come on. Then all sit back down. Its a simple thing just stand up and sing start middle and end the fans need to create the atmosphere not the club. Theres no better buzz when the players walk onto the pitch and we all start singing villa villa and so on imo we just need to keep singing throughout the game. simple as you're absolutely right but you're preaching to the converted in a sense because when im at VP im standing in K4 singing every song in the book. aside from saving those in the doug, trinity and north upper from getting deep vein thrombosis because they might actually stand up and move about a bit to sing along, who knows the introduction of an anthem may encourage more fans to be more vocal for the rest of the 90 minutes as well? Paris, It seems that some who reside in the Holte end and post here want to blame everyone bar themselves for the lack of singing/songs/songwriting etc. I'm 49 now and I just dont fancy a few chorus of 'on the piss my Lord' (I sit in M1). I'm not sure about the 'move about' bit although I think Bridge Club 1922 are keen on High-Energy disco. I did my bit when I was younger and it was a lot of fun. Regarding the 'anthem' (we havent got one) by the way) song sheets and piping the tune through the pa. Why dont we employ Gary Barlow to write a ditty for us? I've been trying to adapt 'Never Forget' but its still a work in progress.
John
How about Lenny Henry's rendition of "Thriller" when he replaced Thriller with Aston Villa?
maloneyt
i've told H&V about this and they seem pretty interested. link: http://www.heroesandvillains.info/forumv3/index.php?topic=42049.0 had a request from one of them too... Ian Brown - F.E.A.R Quality song, totally non cheesy, easy lyrics and totally haunting. if this was played before a game id be kicking every ball. someone back me up here..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3_BGPorMNM

JulieB
I don't particularly think that Ian brown song is one of the best suggestions we've had. Bells are ringing - traditional though hardly an anthem Ghost Riders - ditto Thunderstruck - could well be if words added & chant is Villa instead of Thunder. Stand By Me - No one does this & with right words could definintely catch on as our song. Villa fans have stood by their team through thick & thin so to me quite appropriate. (with some easy words adapted. I'm presuming it would be Oh Villa, Villa instead of Oh darling, darling?) I thought someone was going to do a Poll? JulieB
A few of us adapted some words for the German clapping song "Viva Colonia" a couple of years ago to try & get a club song, anthem going..... but I think some thought it a bit ghey & unsuitable so we dropped it. Personally I thought it a good idea because no other clubs have a song where people can just clap & join in, as far as I know even if they wouldn't sing. villa_chemist
Do we have to have Villa specific lyrics? As far as I know Plop don't adapt the lyrics of YNWA ditto Stoke and Delilah. My vote is for Ghost Riders with the original lyrics (except for "Holte-Enders in the Sky" in the chorus)
maloneyt
no the lyrics dont have to be villa related just not completly off the point

b_allcott
I am on a roll, maybe someone who is more lyrically gifted can change a few of the words around. American Pie A Long Long Time Ago A Man called Mcgregor created a league that made us smile And I knew if he had his chance that he could make people dance and Maybe we'd be happy for a while And the Blues they know we make them Shiver - With every cup that we deliver Bad news on their doorstep - I couldn't take one more step I can't remember if I cried, When Rotterdam Filled My Eyes Something touched me deep inside The Day the Villa Rised So Buy Buy Our American Guy Drove My Chevvy to the Holte End, and The Holte end was high With the villa boys drinking champagne on ice, singing I'm Villa till the day that I die I'm Villa till the day that I die Have you you the Euro CUP and do you have faith in god above? If the villa tells you so Now do you believe in goals and goals, can the villa save your mortal soul, And Can you teach me how chant real slow Well I know that Were in love with them, cause I saw us dancing in the End We all kicked of our shoes, man We dig those claret and blues I was a lonely teenage villa boy, with an invitation to a football ruck But I knew that I was in for luck the day the Villa Rised I started singing So Buy Buy Our American Guy Drove My Chevvy to the Holte End, and The Holte end was high With the villa boys drinking champagne on ice, singing I'm Villa till the day that I die I'm Villa till the day that I die

dAVe80
Just reading through this, and some of the suggestions make me cringe to be honest. For what it's worth, I'd like us to sing 'The Bells Are Ringing' more often, although this never seems to catch on with the 'Your Support is F****** Sh*t' brigade, as there's no swearing in it, and it's not about sha. If we are looking to adopt a song that has not been sung before, then I'd go for 'Bring Me Sunshine' by Morcambe & Wise. I've often thought it'd be a brilliant song to sing down the football.
