It looks like they may be ditching the leeway on speed cameras soon, the technology has improved somewhat since introduction.

Not even from a technology point of view though, I'd hope they wouldn't start doing people for 31 in a 30.

I think they've got new tech on the M25 cameras recently.

You still have the chance that they may or may not be switched on for any particular day, but they now also adapt to reduced speed limits. So where previously they were set to trigger at 80mph, they are now set to trigger at 10mph above whatever the matrix signs are saying.

I think that's true. If it isn't, I'd like to take the credit for starting the myth.

I thought all speed cameras in the West Midlands had been turned off? Or is that just Walsall?

Apparently it was a van, so I'm fairly certain she'll get done!

In that case no escape. Although I do know people that remove your points for a fee....dodgy business though.

if it was a van, there's a fair chance the guy was eating his sandwiches or having a quick scan of some porn on his phone

Nah not that bothered.

If it's points and a fine then no bother. She deserves it.

I was just worried that 65 in a 40 would be a bigger fine or even a ban.

The sooner we have mandatory self-driving cars the better.

Could you be a good sport and punch yourself in the 'nads for me.  Cheers :P

I see a road system of perfectly synchronised motorised robots as pretty much the archetypal dystopian future of controlled hell.  I'm glad I'll be long dead in the ground before we reach that particular 'milestone'.  Although I've no doubt I'll be witness to the start of the mess that tries to get us there.

Travel is the boring bit if you're in a car

Not if you're just going for a drive. Sunny Sunday, up the mountains etc. It's not always about getting from A to B. That system of autonomy almost demands that you punch in a destination before you set off. Maybe there are times when you don't know where you're going.  See, it's the rigidity of it all that I hate.  Plus the fact that I actually like driving.

How many people live by mountains? :\

I'd say I am in between. I like driving and I'd imagine that given the option of a multifunction driverless car I would still drive myself 90% of the time.

However there are some journeys I would love to sit back and read a book as though I was on a train. I'd also like it for the bad hangover trips, they can be particularly harrowing.

Liking driving less and less.

Well maybe that's not quite right, liking driving conditions less and less.

Too many feckers on the road, sleeping policeman, cameras...

It takes half an hour longer to drive home from work than it does to cycle.

I'd rather drive larger, slower vehicles in London. It's less frustrating than being in a jam in something nippy.

Yep, as I go around the M25 every Wednesday and Thursday clocking up an average speed somewhere around 20mph it amazes me how many people have bought cars capable of 150mph with stiff suspension, upgraded brakes in primary colours and rumbling noisy engines.

I guess it's for the bit between their junction turn off and their car park. The old Bracknell 200 metre scream.
