If a decision is ambiguous and the check takes longer than a minute, for example, the ref should automatically be sent to the monitor. 'Clear and obvious' is a nonsense in this situation because it has to be slowed down to see if there was even contact or not. Make the ref responsible for confirming his own on-field decision.

The decision was made by the ref on the pitch…

And not corrected by the VAR as it should have been.

Was also a more general point, such as the Liverpool offside goal.

Sorry to harp on, but if a ref looks at a replay of a player supposedly being kicked on one leg, and he goes down holding the other one, immediately reverse the decision and book him for diving.

It really isn't hard.

Well it is for Jared Gillett.

Melt.

On MOTD tonight Alan Shearer will say 'Schar's been clever there getting himself in the way and going to ground' guaranteed. Never mind that he dived to win a penalty.

At half time he was described as clever. He should be coming away from that with a yellow card and instead he’s got his team a goal and is getting plaudits for his cheating.

Meanwhile players are getting booked for kicking the ball away in the slightest fashion and we’re getting 20 minutes of injury time a game.

Those in charge have their priorities all wrong.

…so the general point is that you DO want the game run by Stockley Park?

It's been like this for a while.

Diving used to be a 50/50 thing. You take the risk and sometimes you get rewarded.

Now, absurdly, you have the tech, and VAR and diving is rewarded more than not.
