Xia said we wanted a creative midfielder a few weeks back didn't he?

Guess we needed to shift Gil out first so hopefully that speeds up the search.

If we find a replacement with more ability than Gil I'll be stunned.

Exactly right. And watch his highlights videos to show the "glimpses of talent" he showed when he did.

It's a highlights video. Gil did about 3 good things in his whole time here. He was one of the players who were never good enough/suited to the Prem imo and hence was one of the flops that contributed to our relegation.

Gil did 3 good things in the first 5 minutes of his first match for us.

Sherwood, Garde, MacDonald and Black were the flops who contributed to our relegation.

Di Matteo is doing a great job so far of following in their footsteps.

Fxed.

Like I said before, most if not all of our players would be out the door if they got a decent offer from elsewhere

Maybe. But that's speculation and there haven't been other agents saying that kind of stuff.

Bottom line is he wanted out straight away and he got his wish.

Can't say I blame any of the foreign players we signed last season if they wan't out.

Obviously no idea what was promised to them during the negotiations before they signed, but I bet it was something completely different from the shambles that was Aston Villa last season.

Huge respect for any who still wan't to stay on and fight in the Championship, despite having their wages significantly reduced and in some cases being treated less than professional by the club (Veretout in particular).

Obviously a lot of these players also failed to live up to what was expected of them, but given the circumstances I'm inclined to be more lenient towards these guys than towards our senior domestic PL veterans.

I know it's off topic, but has the club got rid of the person who said sign these players, Paddy Reilly?

Also, are there other posts on here, that might say who is still part of the backroom staff, as the clubs website who's who is a bit vague?

I'll be amazed if some of our signings don't have more of an impact than Gil. Doesn't matter if he has ability, if he can't affect a game he's not much use. And managers here found that out.

Managers here never gave him a chance. Gil did make an impact considering the limited opportunity he had and would have made more of an impact if he was given an extended run in his best position with the right players around him which rarely if ever happened.

You would think if you have a specialist number 10 in the squad with technical ability you would use him in between a midfield which doesn't require cover and behind a pair of strikers who can read and get onto the end of what is being created. We never set up like that last season. The closest we came is when Kozak was introduced and interestingly enough we beat Crystal Palace and drew with Leicester.

yet and when he played he never actually did much, he couldnt get into the worst team in Premier League history and when he did he barely showed much ability

We are going around in circles but the worst team in premier league history is actually the worst managed team in premier league history to be accurate, ;)
