With due respect - is this really so far wide of being plausible ? I can’t remember the timeline of events so I could be totally wide of the mark - it just kinda seems possible ?
-
I agree - I think this kid does have the attributes to be a great player. I do think however, he will probably have to go elsewhere, before he realises his potential. I think he’s likely to be a slow burn to the top. But feel sure he will get there.

Sadly it seems as though Bertie’s time here is drawing to a close, if recent reports are to be believed. Bertie will always remain a favourite of mine, and whilst acknowledging I am in a minority - for me, he is a better footballer than Bailey. I hope he can stay around at least until this season ends just so we can enjoy this mercurial magician a little longer. I still believe he can offer us something particularly in Europe.
-
I totally agree - it looked for a fleeting moment that his luck was about to change and then next minute, he was gone. Given an extended run of games, I think he might have nailed a shirt, sadly this ship has sailed.

I think you are being a tad harsh if I may say so. we all know that Doug was Doug and his ego came before him. But despite this I do think that Villa mattered to him, more than his other excursions into football imo. I wouldn’t say he doesn’t deserve a stand named after him, we have had worse owners - but I certainly agree that there are many more deserving villans to have a stand named after them. As I’ve previously said Paul McGrath would be my preference

I am not so sure about the too nice bit, I felt that Brian did possess a ruthless streak when it was needed. I do agree that he loves the club and is a legend without question. Personally I would probably prefer a stand to be named after Paul McGrath - but acknowledge their is just a rizla paper between preferences. I loved having him as our manager, I think his first game was a Sunday v Sheff wed ? I recall a banner in the Holte proclaiming “ Brian’s home “ said it all really.

The RJW63 Official Jack Grealish Appreciation Thread
ChesterDad replied to kevangrealish's topic in Other Football
I do think Jack still loves the club - would you stop supporting Villa, if you got offered a pro contract ? How was he really supposed to turn down city? I’d bring Jack home tomorrow, if it was possible. Each to their own as the saying goes is applicable here I feel -
I suppose you could ask this question about any of our players? Macca, Sid, Peter Withe, Gary Shaw, the list goes on. Ugo played with distinction for a number of years - I guess others have to make this distinction? Some try to tell me Agbonlahor is a Villa legend, this overrated talentless footballer could not hold a candle to Ugo imo. I suppose it boils down to opinion at the end of the day. Regardless - Ugo was a fantastic footballer for us. I’m sure everyone agrees this much.

You are right - I think Ugo’s debut was against Norwich and it wasn’t good - So glad the club, stuck with him. Ugo became a Villa legend. Someone mentioned Laursen as well - don’t recall his debut tbh, but he is the only player I know that can hold a candle to Paul McGrath

I care - I think he is a good player, hopefully it’s all put to bed and he can fully focus on Aston Villa.

The RJW63 Official Jack Grealish Appreciation Thread
ChesterDad replied to kevangrealish's topic in Other Football
Such an odd thing to say with all due respect. Jack is a professional footballer and would clearly want to achieve great things in the game - why would he not? Doesn’t stop him being a villan. Just imagine having Jack, Diaby Watkins, Zaniolo, Duran, Bertie, Bailey all pushing for a forward spot? -

I’m really not sure myself - I think Jack is a much better footballer than Diaby and that is no reflection on him whatsoever. I would bring Jack home now, if possible. But I also rate Diaby and back him 100% -
I’ll say it again - come May, I honestly believe we’ll be singing his praises. He can play - he has not been great so far, I will agree this much. But you do not become a bad footballer in a short space of time.
-
In all fairness the gap has narrowed considerably this season, and whilst I agree, Moreno will claim the spot - it won’t be quite so straightforward imo
-
You got the Good Afternoon bit right
-
This is pretty much where I sit, I honestly do not think he is a starter - far from this in fact. His goal on Sunday was a terrific one and all credit for this, and as others have said - I too think his best role is coming off the bench at home. I’m not a huge fan tbh - however if he can continue to contribute in this manner, this has got to be a good thing all round for everyone.
-
I don’t think the kid is a bad signing at all. Let him develop here, and watch him grow into a really good centre forward - all the attributes are there in aplenty imo
-
I have said this before - I believe we will be singing his praises come May.
-
On what basis have you arrived at this conclusion ?

I sometimes wonder if Ezri’s profile does not do him any favours ? He seems a humble and understated person to me - he has been outstanding and without question, deserving of an opportunity - but he doesn’t appear to want to beat his own drum. Seem to remember baggies fans many years ago - beating the drum on Bryan Robsons behalf, I think they bombarded the FA with letters and he did get a call up. Maybe someone with much better IT skills than I have, could start a similar campaign on behalf of Ezri??
-
I agree Digne has been very good and I don’t think Alex will just walk back into the team, but also feel it will only be a matter of time.
-
For me that is Bailey’s biggest problem - he doesn’t beat his man anywhere near enough. Seems far to content to check inside and lay it off. Probably one of the reason why I prefer Bert - he has that sense of engagement about him and not afraid to have a go at whoever he is up against
-
That’s absolutely fine - I have no issue with you and your opinion is just as valid as mine. I don’t - but if he comes good then that’s great news for us
