  1. If I remember correctly that away game to Man Utd was probably a game too far the players as it was pretty much the same 11 for a while and the only change Emery could do was bring on Callum Chambers as the bench was very thin. Been looking forward to the game on Boxing day for a while, first time in ages it looks like we can rock up to Old Trafford and put on a Emery masterclass after the amount of losses we've had over the years so it's rather annoying what Kamara did to unnecessarily weaken us.
  2. Can’t believe I’m sitting here after coming back from behind away to Brentford and still feeling annoyed/frustrated. Up till the red card looked like it was gonna be one of those days where we just couldn’t break them down and lose 1-0 so it was good to see us finally make use of them having 10 men which hasn’t always been the case in recent times. To lose Kamara for 3 games has annoyed me. We are playing against 10 men and leading but Martinez/Kamara have allowed the Maupay situation to mean we now miss Kamara for 3 games. Think the Sheff Utd/Burnley games should be ok but missing Kamara for Old Trafford is frustrating when it was avoidable. So naive.
  3. Ideally he will stay, completely different to last January where the club rightly sent back Bednarek and Augustisson so it’s good to have a loan player whose hardly playing that we would want to stay but I’d be surprised if Barca/Lenglet will be happy with how it’s going. Barring any injuries difficult to see him starting any Premier League game including Burnley. Seems it’s going to be Carlos/Torres/Konsa in the tough games and Torres/Konsa/Cash in the games Villa play against bottom half. I guess there’s a fair chance there will be an injury with the amount of football playing though.
  4. Be surprised if he is still here after January, at the rate his going he won’t play again till March and he won’t be happy with that and I’m sure Barcelona won’t be happy with that. Would like to think the position the club are in, we can maybe sign a highly rated young CB in January who can spend the next 6 months getting settled and coached by Emery whilst getting the odd appearance here and there should we need cover but I guess FFP might restrict that. Guess it will be another experienced CB on loan.
  5. I’m gonna probably be in a minority here but I’m not really fussed about whether 5th gets Champions League or not. Obviously if you narrowly miss out on 4th by goal difference or a point then it’s a bonus I guess but all I can see next season is the media/social media/fans saying that the team who finished 5th are only there because they’ve given out extra spaces and don’t deserve to be there. I’m pretty sure the idea of giving out the extra space was to make it easier for the likes of Liverpool/Arsenal/Man Utd to get in if they had a off season like Liverpool did last year rather than rewarding Villa,Newcastle or Brighton for having a really good season. Fingers crossed the form shown under Emery so far continues and we qualify finishing in the top 4!
  6. Tad frustrating Newcastle went completely out of Europe last night. Not really concerned with Man Utd if I’m being honest, they are a really inconsistent side who can’t beat anybody half decent but Newcastle not having mid week games next year means they get rest between games which they need for the style of football they play. Our form under Emery has been top 3 form, sure fans of Newcastle/Spurs will be thinking it be difficult to over take us so it will be an exciting race for the Champions League for sure!
  7. I think the team will be something like; Olsen, Cash Konsa Lenglet Digne, Ramsey Luiz Dendonker Zaniolo, Duran Diaby. More then good enough to get at least a draw (which might not even need). Be good for Ramsey to get some minutes here as I wouldn't be surprised if Brentford is the first game we see Moreno and Ramsey starting on the left side together this season.
  8. Not like I’m bothered with the league table at this stage or anything but there’s a possibility we could end the week 1 point behind arsenal and ahead of Man City or 10 points behind Arsenal and 7 behind City. December is busy!
  9. The next two games aren’t going to decide Villas league position either way. Last time I checked the title/champions league spots are given out in May not December. We are not even half through the season yet. Winning the next 2 games doesn’t necessarily mean Villa are title challengers whilst a defeat and a draw doesn’t mean Villa are just going to finish top 6/7. Personally I don’t see Villa up there with Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool from what I’ve watched this season but people will disagree with that which is fine. Maybe if Villa are close to them in March I will change my mind but it’s not boom or bust in December
  10. Not really. Man City have the best manager in the world and the best striker in the world. Bonus that they are missing a couple of players for this but they have still have an embarrassment of riches. Of course with Villas strong home record this is Villas best chance in years to pick up a win, but it’s not negative predicting Man City to win. They are the favourites.
  11. Not sure about this fixture if I’m being honest. It’s a bonus Rodri is out. Apart from affecting depth not really too fussed Grealish is banned his not been great this season, don’t think I fancy Doku running at Cash/Konsa so ideally he won’t be fit but rumours are he is. Man City are for sure more vulnerable than usual but I’m still expecting Pep to rock up with a plan to win tomorrow, it’s not like they are having to play academy players. Haaland Alvarez, Foden, Silva are excellent players to still be able to call on. Guess the target will be midfield, if Kalvin Phillips starts for the first time in how long he clearly won’t be up to speed but think I read earlier Stones is fit for them so I’d imagine he might play Stones in midfield since that’s what he drifts into anyways. I be happy with a draw tomorrow!
  12. According to the FPL accounts on Twitter looks like Watkins starts, Cash and Diaby benched. I’m guessing Bailey will play where Cash played last week whilst Tielemans will come in for Kamara (though not sure which position) and Zaniolo will start. Tough game regardless, not expecting a comfortable afternoon for sure.
  13. I know the Man City/Arsenal are the two games everybody is looking at to see where Villa are at but the Bournemouth/Brentford away games are a bit more intriguing to me tbh. Been really poor at Bournemouth last two times and don't need to mention the record at Brentford. Really hope we can go to both and put in a positive performance. I recall Brentford pretty much battering us after we started brightly there last season. In regards to Man City/Arsenal I think one thing that's missing under Emery is a win at home against of the big boys and I think we will win one them, just not sure which one.
  14. Quietly feeling confident about this game which is a bad thing as this is usually followed by a Villa lose (Pre-Forest was the last time). With the players Spurs are missing this is a good time to play them, you'd like to think Ramsey and Moreno will be on the bench for this one so that strong left hand side from last season might even get off the bench here if we need to change the game. Just need to avoid conceding early here, fancy a repeat of the fixture last season if we can avoid conceding early though I do back Son to break our high line at some point. I recall he was caught offside a lot at Villa Park and missed a lot of his one-on-ones but he looks back to his usual self this season so don't fancy seeing him through on goal too many time. 2-1 Villa here.
  15. Nice to see this topic in Other Football rather than the Villa Talk section for a change! Guess we still have the panic-buying January transfer to come yet which might change things, which club do we think Danny Ings is going to be at come February? Forest home form will be enough for them to stay up, Everton I guess will depend on if they get a points deduction but I think they will have enough to stop up regardless with how bad it is down there. Fulham despite their lack of goals, will hoover around the bottom 6 but have enough to stay up. Between Burnley, Sheff Utd, Luton and Bournemouth for me.
  16. Alex MacAllister is a recent example that comes to mind. Signed a new contract before the world cup and towards the end of the season there was a lot of speculation with a move away and that it was going to cost clubs a lot of money. Turned out he had a cheapish release clause which made it easier for Liverpool to get it done. Wouldn't be surprised if Villa have already started talks over a new contract in the background and it comes out the blue like Konsa's recent deal.
  17. Strong disagree here. Can never take European football for granted whichever competition. Football changes very quickly, it could be another 13 years (hopefully not) before we experience any form of European football so if we do manage to get Champions League then Villa should make the most of it regardless of whether we are ready for it or not.
  18. Whilst I agree it should be a big fee in that region to sign him, I would be shocked if there isn't a release clause in that contract he signed. That was signed on his terms.
  19. The only concern I have got with Man Utd this if they sack ETH and manage to get somebody (no idea who that would be anyway) who can get a tune out of them. As much as I'd like ETH to stay in a job to the boxing day game, looking at their fixtures over the next month or so it's hard to make a case for them to get much points on the board. You'd like to think Luton this weekend will be a home banker for them but then they have got; Everton(A), Galatasaray (A), Newcastle (A), Chelsea (H), Bournemouth (H), Liverpool (A) and West Ham (A). Their record away to anybody half decent is well known, I'd be surprised if his not on the brink of being sacked after probably another heavy defeat at Anfield.
  20. I agree, I feel confident in saying based off of what I have watched this season that Villa are a top 6/7 side. I think Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool are a level above but it is also very close between Villa/Spurs/Newcastle/Brighton. It is going to come down to which teams can avoid the most injuries to key players and who can get the unexpected win at some of these tough away grounds. If I had to pick which team out of the other three who I think has the best chance of finishing above Villa it would be Newcastle. I'm just basing that on the fact they seem able to keep clean sheets but that injury list they've got might put a stop to that. There's a long way to go yet.
  21. Just seen AC Milan beat PSG. Don’t think it be ideal if Newcastle finished bottom of the group because they then wouldn’t have any European football to do deal with second half of the season and that would give them an advantage. Ideally they finish 3rd and drop into the Europa League as I’d imagine both them and Brighton would fancy themselves to go deep in that competition.
  22. Going to be weeks where teams around Villa win and Villa lose and going to be weeks where Villa win and teams around Villa lose. A big opportunity is in April/May not November. Long season of ups and downs to go yet. Villa last season showed the league table in November means nothing.
  23. Jury is still out on him though it is still early days. When Ramsey is fit he goes straight back in the team for sure.
