    The Batman

I don't think he has the right look for the Joker. He seems a bit pathetic—and in the wrong way. I know a lot of Jokers have that kind of origin, but with this actor specifically, it doesn't feel right.

I see why it was cut tbh!
  3. If she's anything like me it took me a solid 10 days! I was pretty much fine the whole way through too—as in my symptoms were barely there.
  4. Oh nice! I really rate Ti West and didn't know he has a new film. He has a few unknown gems for sure. House of the Devil and The Innkeepers were great.
  5. I loved it myself. Innocent question, but did you know much about the Shannon Tate murders? Of course you might well know everything about it and you just didn't like the film, but some people I've spoken to with more lukewarm thoughts on the film didn't. Knowing what was going to happen, and wondering why Tarantino was taking us headlong into such an uncomfortable event while following the pretty much unrelated DiCaprio/Pitt story (well, they skirt around the edges of the lives of the people involved), with the tone he gave the film overall, added a tension I've not felt in a film ever before. And the payoff was surprising in a way I haven't felt in a film since I was a kid. It still blows my mind now thinking about it.
  6. This film does not hold up. I enjoyed it seventeen years ago, but watching it again this Christmas it was shockingly bad!
  7. I meant in the name of keeping them out of the way.
  8. Can we have another thread for posting Russel Brand videos?
  9. I had a look at the etymology of the phrase poppycock today and was interested to see a couple of things. First that it's origin is Dutch and means something like 'soft turd'. Second that it's a brand of popcorn in the USA, which now seems like a terrible name. But the third and most surprising part of this journey of knowledge is that the popcorn is made in a place called Villa Park, which is apparently on lists of the best place to live in the US. It's in Illinois. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poppycock Poppycock Article Talk Language Download PDF Watch Edit This article is about the confection. For the exclamation, see Nonsense. For the opera singer seen on America's Got Talent, see Prince Poppycock. Poppycock is a brand of candied popcorn. Though it is marketed in a variety of combinations, the original mixture consists of clusters of popcorn, almonds, and pecans covered in a candy glaze. Other specialty combinations include mixtures with emphasis on cashews, chocolate, and pecans.[1] HistoryEdit The history of Poppycock is uncertain. According to Lincoln Snacks, Poppycock was invented by Howard Vair in the 1950s as a snack to accompany him on road trips.[2] In 1960, Wander, a Swiss company, bought the rights to Poppycock and moved production to their Villa Park, Illinois, facility.[2] However, in 1969, a snack matching the description of Poppycock was patented by Arnold Rebane, who worked for the Wander Company.[3] In 1991, Lincoln Snacks Company acquired Poppycock[2] and on September 7, 2007, Lincoln Snacks was purchased by ConAgra Foods. The product is also now cross-branded with the Orville Redenbacher's brand.
  10. What a word removed. The shame of it. To use what's happening in Ukraine to try to continue his bullshit.
  11. There are definitely people who do well from convincing you this is how most of the country feels.
  12. Maybe, but tbh my impression is they're all pretty content right now. They're moving in the right direction so I doubt they're losing much sleep over Buendia.
  13. All the new stuff, from those shitty JJ Abrams films to the abominations of the new shows, doesn't count as Star Trek.
  14. Plenty of strikers would struggle in the same situation though. West Ham are a good team. Defenses often nullify strikers, and it doesn't make the striker bad.
  15. 9th is progression! The top 8 aren't just going to let us go ahead of them.
  16. I don't understand this tbh. I'm just saying that whatever is going on right now isn't 'communism'.
  17. I don't think Putin is a proponent of 'Russian communism'!

    The Batman

I thought it was pretty good, but the riddler mystery felt a bit undercooked for me. And what went for a Batman theme, or theme of the film, was just the same droning four notes on repeat. I think the score in those moments was a bit of a missed opportunity. But I liked the cast, and it was well made.

He’s back out on the pitch, clearing one or two things before he comes back into full training, hopefully on Monday.”
  20. What a bizarre picture to add to that tweet.
  21. Not if you enjoyed your freedom of movement and nice rivers etc. Besides that it could be good but it could be really shit too.
  22. The things we tell ourselves to make ourselves feel better.
  23. One consistent is the brexit argument hasn't moved on from selective use of details and from being dependent on people sounding out all the rest of the noise. "It's OK, I'm right, I have this one graph."
  24. I'm synched up with you pretty much! I had my first positive on Monday. I've been confined in the bedroom working from home too, because to get a sick note for me in Madrid it's a two hour ballache of a journey there and back to my registered medical centre, and that seems irresponsible (my fault for not yet registering with the doctor at the end of the street I've just moved to). For me it's been like a weak cold too. I'd say I'm mostly over the symptoms now though, bar a little sense of being clogged up in my head.
