They’re bigging us up so much. I hate it. Spells disaster.

This is where I am with it. Yes we should win but to come away with 2 points from four games against Brighton and Burnley suggests we are more than capable of messing it up. The players need to be focused and disciplined, hopefully having learned from those games. A run of form without Jack would be amazing.

Jamie Carragher has just tweeted that they are doing a big feature on the Villa defence on MNF. Might make it worth watching.

It’s an amazing stat. Not to be too negative but the converse of this is that we have only gained a single point all season when we’ve gone behind (Chelsea 1-1) that I can think of. Put that right and we’re sorted.

Yeah me too. And Kalvin Phillips (who I am aware wasn’t playing today) yet I am still insanely pleased we won. Not sure what it is that makes me hate them so much but it has started to have a derby feel about the fixture.

Well there’s been no training pics of any of the squad so maybe they’re all injured and out for the season. Or maybe club just decided to have a week off releasing training pics which leaves things open for all manner of crap speculation?! He better not be injured. Cash, Grealish and Watkins out all in the space of 2 weeks would be Liverpool 20-21 levels of bad luck. I fully expect to see his name on the team sheet tomorrow.

Dean seemed genuinely delighted by the arrival of Sanson and I think that both him and Purslow have suggested that our interest in him predates Lange. I don’t think the persistence with Barkley relates to Sanson. I wonder if Smith gave Barkley one last chance to shine in front of Southgate. At what point do they find out when the England manager is coming to watch the game.

God I hope the team go into this game with a bit more positivity than the fans. Yes we may not get anything against Leeds but we are not a one man team. Our defence is good, our forwards are capable of scoring and we do have decent midfielders if DS sets them up properly/makes the right selection. Smith said he got the tactics wrong last time so may take a different approach for this game and even if we do get well beat, it doesn’t mean our season is done. If they have the right mentality and self belief they will still win games. I think it is really important to finish top half to attract the right quality of players in the summer. Anyone remember the run in after lockdown, Jack was not in great form but other players stepped up and look how that turned out. This whole one man team thing will become a self fulfilling prophecy if they let it. I don’t expect to beat Leeds if I’m honest but I wouldn’t rule it out either. And even if not in this game, I think it would do the team spirit and confidence the world of good if they get a couple of good results without Jack.

I wondered why the sad face so I googled and he was the ref that gave the Luiz pen at United and gave then overturned the Trez pen against Brighton. He was also the ref when we lost 4-0 at the King Power last season and gave a pen against us. However, he was also the ref with the faulty Hawkeye watch so possibly now thinks he owes a lifetime of dodgy decisions against.

I think most people would accept that but choose to remain positive and hope that Elmo continues to be dependable if nothing else. He even found the net for us during Project Restart so miracles may happen.

A few of the top 9 play each other this weekend (Liverpool-Everton, West Ham-Spurs, Arsenal-Man City), so even if we lose we could still keep in touching distance of a Europa spot. Will be yet another chance to make progress tho so let’s hope we finally take one of these chances.

From the quotes I’ve seen/heard, Smith said a few weeks not a couple of weeks so I think 4 would be more accurate. Gutted. Elmo will do a job for us tho.

I’d rather Purslow just didn’t enter into negotiations re Konsa. I get that some clubs like Brentford and Leicester have made huge profits on their best players and found brilliant replacements but I’m another one haunted by years of having to sell our best players and never quite filling the void left adequately.

They had Vardy, Soyuncu and Pereira out. However they did have Justin, Fofana, Evans, Tielemans amongst others and Madison played most of the second half. I’m not saying we’ll win this time but we beat quite a strong Leicester team.

I’m sure earlier this season Dean talked about getting Ezri and Douglas Luiz on new contracts. Nothings been mentioned since.
