  1. Noticed that too, although couldn’t pick out who it would be
  2. When it’s so loud that the commentators are forced to raise their voices, that’s not a TV company altering crowd noise. That’s a boisterous crowd
  3. We grind so hard now. Could’ve scored 4 or 5 easily. Love that we didn’t let the disallowed goal get us down, we came out of the half with passion instead
  4. NBCSN in the states has it as a 4-2-3-1 with Luiz & Nakamba behind Buendia, McGinn, and Ramsey with Ollie up top
  5. I haven’t but it’s funny, I was thinking about posting the same thing about Shining Pearl
  6. Yeah the one across the parking lot from the North Stand
  7. Watched their last two games and haven’t been impressed at all
  8. I know you lot might find this ridiculous, but after some reflection I think Brum might be my favorite city I’ve ever visited. It’s either Brum or Florence. I’m not particularly well travelled but I really, really liked Brum. Far better than London
  9. Is the secret bar Bacchus? Stumbled on that place by accident. Didn’t stay but it seems pretty cool
  10. Boy is the transportation after matches brutal
  11. I’m a Vikings fan, born into it. My Dad told me as a kid if I ever cheered for the Packers I had to sleep in the garage. Not too much help with the NFL so I apologize, all I can say is you’ll be able to find tickets without much of a problem but you’ll pay an arm and a leg for them. My opinion is NFL games are better on TV than in person. All of that down time where you’re listening to analysts or commercials give you the chance to grab a beer in the fridge? Yeah, in person you’re just sitting in your seats and twiddling your thumbs.
  12. I agree with you and I’m glad I went there. Next trip over I’d probably try to see Spurs or Arsenal away to see the stadium though. I’d really love to see Old Trafford but it’s just too much of a pain to get to Manchester without paying a premium.
  13. I did, although it was a bittersweet day. Mrs MNVillan and I had tickets and the day before the match she started chemotherapy and couldn’t go. One of the reasons we made the trip to VP was we swore once she was healthy we’d go see Villa in person. She had her two year clean scans last month.
  14. 2013 I knew nothing about football but my buddy is an Arsenal supporter. We watched the 3-1 victory together on opening day at the Emirates and I really enjoyed watching Villa. Started following them casually, and it just kept growing and growing until here we are today.
  15. After going to VP it’s ridiculous how small Selhurst is, especially for a Premier League club
  16. She’s really grown fond of Villa as well over 3+ years we’ve been married. She works from home and since most matches are on during the work day over here, she’ll watch them by herself and text me updates (I’ll never forget the texts I was getting during 7-2 against Liverpool). To answer your question, she quite enjoyed it. She was singing and celebrated when Ollie scored. It wasn’t spiritual for her the same way it was for me, but the experience was definitely not completely lost on her.
  17. We have grit that was certainly lacking. We looked rutterless under Deano without Grealish. Still can’t shake the fact that someone said SG has Lego hair. He absolutely does.
  18. Back home in Duluth, Minnesota. A few more thoughts: I didn’t cry when seeing VP for the first time, although I thought I would. However it truly is grand and the sheer scale of it was larger than I expected (especially when in the stands). What I did not expect was how emotional I would get when leaving. Taking one last look at VP while at the train station and trying to soak it all in… yeah, there was some emotion there. Not sure when I’ll get back. One thing i loved was the community aspect of Villa. On one side of me was a lady in her 50s or 60s who seemed like she had been going to games for her whole life, and I really admire that. She wasn’t plastic, you could tell she was born Villa. Thick brummy accent and not afraid to yell. Club shop was underwhelming. Not sure what I expected, but it was more than that. Aston Tavern was really cool. Felt like I was amongst people meeting up for a pint who had been getting together that way for decades. Old friends coming together for a beer and Villa once again. I don’t care that we lost, it was an amazing experience.
  19. Just landed in the DC Airport. One more flight to get to Minneapolis and then a 2.5 hour drive home. Had a 6 AM bus from Brum back to Heathrow, then an 8 hour flight to get back onto American soil. Been a long day so far. VP was unbelievable and the atmosphere made me proud to be Villa. The VTID chant especially when Jack came on was deafening, probably the loudest thing I’ve heard at a sporting event. I’ll have more thoughts once I can get home and digest what I saw.
  20. Yeah he is so selfish on the pitch. Gerrard needs to break that attitude for the benefit of his career and our team
  21. Been a journey. Hopped on the wrong bus and ended up at Perry Ave. No wifi and no idea how to get back so we just walked to the stadium. Long way. Plans went astray. Now at Aston Tavern
