i agree in principle, but if he does stay with the first team squad next season, he needs game time, or his development will suffer.

genuine question. Do you think gerrard is playing him to try and maintain some value in him, to move him on in the summer? Or.......is Gerrard just playing him regardless of how many times he passes the ball to someone that isnt in claret and blue..... Same for Watkins, i wonder if he will get moved on.....or maybe Gerrard doesnt see the brick feet in him, that most others seem to see. I dunno, im lost right now with what you need to do, to get in this team, ability seems to not matter.

we will have a new DM this summer, im almost 100% sure of that (finally). So he either needs to be understudy to that DM, or if thats Namamba, Timmy needs to go out on loan to help his development (imo).

i imagine we will have a huge ingoing & outgoing of players this summer. Gerrard wouldnt have come here if he wasnt promised a huge war chest.

for a player of his quality, and background (Liverpool/Barcelona etc), it must be like playing in the twilight zone. He needs help.......not replacing!

Coutinho and Buendia, behind a striker who can actually control a ball, is fairly quick and can take chances..... having Coutinho and Buendia behind Watkins, is like 2 Ferrari's racing alongside a Reliant Robin. Other stuff needs fixing as well tho, half this team is just.....terrible tbh.

the stats say we had a 69% pass completion rate versus Leicester. Im not trying to defend Coutinho, but whats he gonna do with that?, he has shown moments of sublime quality since he joined, while also being quite others, but if we signed him, and signed some players around him who can actually play football, it would transform us. I cant believe we as Villa fans are moaning about having a player like Coutinho, when the first 11 is hitting 69% pass rates, McGinniesta cant pass the ball 5 yards, Watkins breaks up more forward plays than opposition defenders, half our players couldnt pass a ball if their lives depended on it, or are so static, they arent even somewhere on the pitch to recieve sublime through balls or passes. Can you imagine being Coutinho, looking up and seeing brick feet Watkins in front of you.....thinking....."i know whats gonna happen here...". My mind boggles with Villa fans sometimes. Moaning that we have Coutinho, rather than actually looking at the huge issues we have throughout this team. Im not saying Coutinho has been perfect, he hasnt, but imo he is part of the solution, not the problem.....where half of this first 11 is the problem, not the solution.

ye he looks class, he also looked a level, or levels above when he played u23s, very silky player. I think next season, even if we buy a DM, i would 100% keep him as the backup for DM, and maybe even no 8. But...thinking about it, rather than 5 mins here and there, he may benefit from a full season out on loan, playing week in, week out.

another very good sub performance, no idea why he isnt starting. Clearly needs to change his name to McGuendia to ensure that nailed on starting spot.

he's a DM or a no.8. He played most of his time at DM for the u23s.

As i said in the match thread, Watkins with the ball: Im getting really bored of how s*** Watkins is, its really painful to watch. Someone else said in the match thread, "Watkins breaking up more plays than the opposition defenders"......how true. Painful.

to give him minutes, as he needs to get up to speed.
