  1. Correct Hornso. His brother Leslie played for Middlesex and Arsenal but was not as successful at cricket compared to Denis.
  2. Thanks Australia......not. We needed him for the derby on Sunday
  3. Stenny are a great little club and are at the heart of the community in the town. They have a community foundation and gave great support especially during the recent lockdowns due to covid. Apart from delivering meals etc to the vulnerable in the area they also had their own helpline manned 24 hours a day for those who needed someone to talk to in dark times. Volunteers, players , management and staff all get involved. Its nice in these days of obscene money in football to go back to small community based football clubs who are approachable and everyone gets involved. The only thing wrong with the club is the colour of their shirts.
  4. Last I heard he had retired back to the Bristol area and was enjoying his golf. Certainly one of my favourite Villa players along with John Gidman ..........many great 70's memories.
  5. Good luck on Saturday lads and lasses. Always a great buzz around the first game of the season, especially to see how you get on without Jack and how the new lads settle in. Obviously up here, we will be watching SJM and see how he plays without Jack with him and whether Smith changes his role in midfield. Watford is a reasonable fixture and on paper should be winnable. Having said that Watford can be quite a stodgy side, especially at home so should be a fascinating game. All the best. 'mon Villa
  6. Totally agree, at times its more Div 1 or even 2 level, that's not the point, Its not about the quality ............as I say you get what you pay for. Its about following and being attached to a club, its players, supporters through its highs and lows AT THAT LEVEL. Outside Smeltic and Sevco the games are usually competitive at that level. . When you get a result against the two arse cheeks you still get the same feeling ,if not more ,as you did when you gubbed Liverpool last season..............ask Dundee United fans how they were feeling last Sunday after beating sevco. 2016 was more incredible for me as a football supporter than Rotterdam. At least when our striker fluffs an open goal I can tell myself he is only on 2k a week.............what about the English Premier League players? The amount of money up here sits better with me rather than the obscene amounts in England which is why I support a poor Scottish side now and not my hometown club whom as I said I followed for years. My suggestion would be.......don't watch on a Sunday lol.
  7. You are probably right. You get what you pay for plus it can still be entertaining for a fraction of the gravy train that is the English Premier League. Still has given me the best times as a supporter .........which includes 20 years following Villa home and away, including Rotterdam.
  8. Well done Malmo, brilliant second half having gone down to 10 men following play acting by Goldson of sevco. GIRFUY Sevco.
  9. Well done Malmo, brilliant second half especially after the play acting by Goldson to get the Malmo lad sent off. GIRFUY Sevco and SG. Most of the rest of Scotland were right behind you.
  10. Aye, just back from ER and again he was very good. Neat and tidy again and links play well. If he continues as he is, he won't be with us long.
  11. Well done Arabs..............so pleasing , GIRFUY Sevco.
  12. Well done to the Perth Saints last night getting an excellent draw against Galatasaray in Turkey. Considering the difference in finances between the clubs that is some achievement especially away from home.
  13. Doyle-Hayes, man of the match at the ground in our game v Croatian side Rijeka tonight. He'll have to play even better next week if we are to have any chance in the return leg.
  14. Its the loss of points to other clubs that is the most important factor, not just the "old firm" games. Celtic last year drew 10 and lost 4 .........every dropped point hurt them. Even if they had beaten sevco 4 times they would still have lost the League.
  15. Funnily enough they weren't as rough tonight! Mind you they had 2 of their worst culprits sent off in the first leg. Doyle-Hayes played for around 70 minutes and looked comfortable on the ball and sprayed some nice passes to both wings. Once he gets full fitness he looks as though he will be useful for us.
  16. Doyle-Hayes starts tonight for us in Andorra. Missed a lot of preseason so still getting his fitness back. They tried to kick us off the park in the first leg so hopefully the ref will protect us a bit tonight
  17. Couldn't happen to a "nicer" club Just imagine if they lose to the jam tarts at the weekend...................popcorn time
  18. Only 2000 generally allowed at the games still in Scotland, so not quite the same but still good...................provided one can get a ticket!
  19. So true Hanoi. If you'd watched the game Arsenal should have won comfortably. Boyles goal was a massive howler from a new keeper where he tried to fly hack the ball clear and missed completely leaving Boyle with a tap in and our second was at least a yard offside........no VAR here The penalty also should have been retaken as our keeper didn't have either foot left on the line as the Arsenal guy struck the ball. So just a kick about with many subs and both sides will get better but naturally we won't get near their level. Still good to be back at the ground / game after 15 months.
  20. Obviously I hope he does..............unfortunately Jack Ross seems to have a habit of stifling "good" midfielders that join. Jackson Irvine joined, whom I had watched at a few clubs and liked, but within a few games he ended up less than average for the rest of the season. Whether he doesn't play them to their strengths, I don't know. Will be interesting to see how Jake gets on under Ross. Under Ross our midfield usually struggles.................not been the same since McGinn left.........wonder what happened to him.
  21. Jake Doyle-Hayes signs for us. Product of the Villa academy and played a couple of times in the League Cup I believe. His idol is / was Roy Keane who was the assistant manager when he joined Villa. ( although he soon departed!..........the Lambert effect?)
  22. Aye agreed regarding covid, ..............I really meant it came at a time when he was getting back from the injury and needed a run of continual games to attain full fitness and not disruption at Bodymoor Heath etc. With regard to his form. that is why I said I was concerned regarding all the 90 minute games he was playing without a sign of a rest when at times it was obvious the game was passing him by and he was struggling.
  23. Agreed Stockbridge, SJM has embraced the Villa phenomena and as he always has done, whether playing for St Mirren, Hibs and now Villa , gives 100%. As you say the injury and then covid held him back but hope he now kicks on and when playing in a position that shows his strengths should remain at Villa. Was a little concerned at times last season when he seemed to play all the time , not subbed etc even when he was playing out of position and was struggling in particular games, but that is down to Smith and the management team. Good luck to SJM and Villa for the new season.
  24. Aye Stoobs, you get 30% of the 15% we would get from Villa. If it did come off it would be a good earner for both clubs. However I don't think he will move and will be very much in Smiths plans.
  25. I agree that if you don't need to sell him then he should stay at Villa ( seems very happy at Villa Park)...............................even though we would get 15% of the fee paid for him.
