  1. This is a bit of a tricky one. We need to balance the players who need a rest and the players who need to play. I think I would go with: Heaton Elmo Konsa Hause Taylor Nakemba Lansbury Hourihane Jota Kodija Wesley I think the above team is when we are in possession. We can fall back into a more standard 4-3-3 when in defense with Jota and Kodija taking up wider positions. I'd be tempted to leave McGinn, Targett, Mings, etc out of the squad completely. Maybe put the likes of Vasilev and Sea on the bench. I would have Grealish, Engels, Guilbert, Luiz on the bench if needed.
  2. I agree with you on the formations but I'd like to see us play a 4-4-2 diamond with a Marvelous, McGinn, Hourihane and Grealish in midfield. And Wes and Kodija up front.
  3. Didn't get to watch today but not the result I had hoped for. Do we have to look at a change of formation? Maybe try to get a second striker on the pitch from the beginning? The next three games will define our season.
  4. I said the the Sheffield United thread that I would probably let him start that one from the bench but I still think the lad has a lot to offer. It's not working right now but that doesn't mean you sell him. He is still young, he has made a huge step up in terms of opposition, he has been called up to and played for the Brazilian national team. All of those things point to a player with bags of potential. Maybe a game or two out of the limelight. A rest may be what he needs. What I won't dispute is his attitude. Never stops working and that's great to see.
  5. We have a run that I think will define our season. We shouldn't fear Sheffield, Watford, Norwich or Southampton. But to go back to this game I think we need to play not only to our own strengths but also to Sheffield's weaknesses. They will play with 5 at the back and with 2 full backs who will push on (both scored at the weekend against Norwich). They will most likely play 2 up front. So out of possession it's 5-4-1 and in possession it's 3-5-2. We have to find a way to get our important players on the ball in the right areas. For me that's Jack moving towards the goal with runners and McGinn arriving late into the box. For that reason I would start Trez and ElGhazi either side of Kodija. I think all three make good runs and will give options. I also think Wes needs to be taken out of the firing line. I don't think he's as bad as everyone is making out. But a rest and an impact from the bench might be useful.
  6. I think patience will be key this evening. Newcastle will play 5 at the back with 2 pretty defensive minded midfielders in front of them. They will aim to invite us on and hit us on the break as they have massive pace. I hope Jack is back and fit enough to start but he should expect a tough night if he does play. I don't see our wingers getting much room to run into so I'd go with intelligence over pace. Play Jack on the left and maybe Jota on the right (if fit). We are going to have a lot of the ball so it's all about how we use it. We will need runners to help Wesley as he will be up against 3 centre backs so a lot is expected of Jack, McGinn and Douglas (if he starts) All in all it will be a tough game but one I expect us to dominate, just hope we score the goals.
  7. I think there is no doubt he is good on the ball but spends too much time running away from the ball. When McGinn when deeper after Lansbury came on he demanded the ball off the defenders to get us moving forward. For me Luiz's game was shown in Wolves second goal. Everyone knows Adama is all pace so either block him off or jump on his back. It's a smart yellow and the fact he didn't do it ended the game for us.
  8. Couple of weeks now to get Grealish, Heaton and Engels back for and firing. Newcastle is a huge game now. If there was a positive from today I thought Konsa looked assured beside Mings.
  9. I think if there is one player to be picked out today it's Luiz. Nothing going forward, nothing defensively. Is it Westwood in a mask?
  10. Right sub. Marv looked like a red card waiting to happen.
  11. I think he's a decent player but ElGhazi never wins a 50:50. I can put up with a lot from players but cowardice isn't one of them.
  12. Is it just me or are the Wolves fans calling for handball every 10 seconds?
  13. The fact that 2 subs have been forced on us I don't see what DS can do. Maybe go to 5 at the back using Guilbert and Trez as wing backs and replace ElGhazi with Hourihane.
  14. That is a very poor 45mins. Lucky to be only 1 down.
  15. Only a matter of time if we keep playing like this.
  16. I don't think he will start at the weekend but Davis has done himself no harm last night. For all of the back up players BHA played Duffy is a good prem level centre back and I though Davis bullied him at times. Ran past him for Hourihane's goal too. Wolves at home in the next round is good too. Glad to get back to VP.
  17. I agree with most of the line ups. I see Chester played for the u23s last night. I think it would be good to get him some mins. Ramsey scored twice in the u23 game too so I'd like to see him make the bench too. I'd really like Targett to stake a claim for the starting LB spot. I think Taylor has been better than I'd have expected this season but I think Targett brings that little bit extra. Steer Elmo Konsa Hause Targett Luiz Jota Lansbury Hourihane Trez Davis Subs: Heaton, Chester, Guilbert, Marv, Grealish, Ramsey, Wesley
  18. Time for us all to look forward now. The next three games in the league will, in my opinion, tell us a lot about where we are going this season. Burnley at home will be a tough test. We all know what they bring and Dyche will have them well organised and they carry a threat with Barnes and Wood up front. At home I'd expect to get something from this. Norwich away is a game we need to target. Yes they beat City at home last week but they are no world beaters and we are a very different team from the one we were last season in the Championship. Then we have the int break and Brighton at home. Another game we have to be targeting for 3 points. We have City away after that so the less said about that the better. But we should be looking at 6-7 points from the three games and start moving ourselves up the table a bit. I still have full faith in DS, UTV!
  19. I think we all need to take a few deep breaths and think before going nuclear. Dean has taken us from lower mid-table in the Championship to the Permier league and he's not been here a year yet. If we were getting tonked every game there may be some cause to get rid. But as it stands we are on the verge of getting things right. But for poor refereeing decisions we would have picked up draws at both Palace and Arsenal. We should have done more at home to West Ham when they were down to 10 but everyone in this group is still learning including the manager. I never expected us to get promoted last season so for me DS is ahead of the plan. No matter what happens this season DS should not be fired. Even if we do go down (I personally don'e see it happening) I'd have 100% faith DS would bring us straight back up.
  20. It’s a terrible result in the circumstances. It would be one thing to draw the game but to lose it from a winning position against 10 men is not good enough. Huge game next week now.
  21. We need another body in midfield. Maybe Lansbury.
  22. I'd personally stick with Wes through the season. Davis and Kodija are decent back up. If one got a big injury I think then I'd look to get someone in but for now I think those 3 are enough. If I was DS I'd be looking at spending big on a proper winger in Jan. Someone with bags of pace which is what I think we're missing right now.
  23. If we are going to get anything from this one we need to get at their centre backs. Luiz is a pen waiting to happen and Mustafi has no pace. On top of the Guendouzi is easily flustered on the ball and can be got at too. On the other hand Auba and Pepe have bags of pace and the likes to Ozil and Maitland-Niles can pick a pass. I think going there and trying to defend is the wrong approach and plays to their strenghts. We need to go with a offensive plan if we want to get anything.
