  1. Whilst I don’t disagree with this, in that it could become a straight business decision, it must be remembered that the player has some influence on this. He may be happy to stay here and whilst he may be happy with a move to Man City, I’d imagine he’d be less happy to be used as a commodity and merely sold on. I think that if that situation arose then there would be an agreement between us and Man City whereby we paid the difference between his buyout clause price and a reasonable market valuation at the time. Man City would also be aware that acting merely as a player dealer could possibly effect their chances of doing similar deals in future. Using the clause as a hedge against possibly losing a potential first team player is one thing, but using it as a business tool would, I imagine, be viewed in a less favourable light by players and clubs in the future.
  2. Wolves will rotate too. Neither side will play their strongest team, local derby, (sort of), or not.
  3. How very dare you! Forgiveness denied.
  4. We don’t get many corners and I think, not sure if there are any stats on this, a lot of our free kicks are fairly central and so don’t generally produce dangerous crosses for attacking headers. Headed hatrick for Mings at Citeh and we can move on to another debate
  5. I’m not personally offended by it and agree it does have a certain feel of satisfaction as it leaves the lips. But football grounds are no longer just full of adult blokes. There are women and kids to consider. Although kids on the play ground and women when they get together are probably worse than us!
  6. I’m not sure you get my point on this. I swear like a trooper, and definitely did on Saturday, but not out loud when my wife and daughter are in earshot. My thing about the My Old Man song, is that do we want that sort of language being used in such a well known club song? Times are changing, I bet Purslow cringes when he hears it. He wants the image of the club to be crispy clean and we have always been a highly respected club by most of the football world. However it’s hard to sell the club to corporate entities who want to be associated with and promote a modern, wholesome image. Frankly I think football is being taken from the average working man, but it is what it is and to survive we have to be a modern forward thinking club that embraces what the world is and not what it was. Singing that our father is a c#£t to suggest supporting our neighbours, no matter how accurate that may be, doesn’t fit in with the modern world. I’ve worked in the construction and event industries for most of the last 30 years and me and most blokes in those trades could make a sergeant major blush with with our language at times. However there’s not many of us who would use that sort of language in front of our mothers. There’s a time and a place. In the bar maybe but perhaps not in the lounge. I want Villa Park to be loud and intimidating for the opposition, but who of us really wants to explain to our little girl or boy what a c#£t is? (Although it’s always handy to have a picture of Robbie Savage handy if the question should arise).
  7. To be honest my view over the years has been, swearing on the Holte is part and parcel of going to a game, but more moderate language in more family orientated areas. I know there are families on the Holte, but passions run higher there in my opinion and I’d never want to sanitise the support. Songs though can be heard everywhere and in general the c word is often regarded as a step too far for some people. I’m certainly not a handwringing snowflake. Perhaps I’m just being an over sensitive c#&t on this one?
  8. I don’t think that’s true. When Benteke first started he was poor. I remember a conversation at work when a fellow season ticket holder said, “I don’t think our mate is going to make it”. He was referring to Benteke and I think that was after about 5 games. Obviously he came good after that. Wes is developing and hopefully he’ll reach the heights that Benteke did. As his confidence grows and he learns more about playing in the PL, I believe he will use his physicality better too. As others have mentioned, the main difference is that his backup striker is also a young inexperienced striker, whereas the backup for Tekkers was Darren Bent. It must also be noted that he’s come into a newly formed team who are also learning on the job. I think he’s done OK so far and crucially scored some goals, but obviously there’s plenty of room for improvement.
  9. Since you’ve brought up abusive language, am I the only one who is uncomfortable with the My Old Man song? It’s one of our best known songs and yet I think thousands of fans singing c#&t is just wrong and does us no credit. I’m not a prude and I’ve often used terrible language at games. You can understand why over the last 10 years! But that’s just frustration spur of the moment stuff and I try to keep it down, especially if there are kids and ladies near. In these modern times when we’re trying to be a forward thinking all inclusive club I don’t think that there’s a place for a song with the C word included. It’s too late to change it obviously, so just drop the song.
  10. The point you make about our better players being below par today is very important. We’re someway off the finished article, some players still settling in and some players possibly a little below, at the moment anyway, PL standard. So our better players have to make a big impact to get us what we need from games, which almost didn’t happen today. Some good players were average/poor and some average players just poor. The clear exception was Jack, who you could claim won us the game today. These types of performances are going to be fairly regular until we increase the quality of the squad as a whole, so that we’re less dependent on a handful, or fingerfull today, of players.
  11. Yeah fancy picking the same team that won the last match 5-1. Must be crazy.
  12. On the BBC website they’re saying there has been loads of rubbish VAR decisions. Missed a clear pen for Watford, who are leading Spurs 1-0, disallowed a Wolves goal for offside, not sure if accurately or not. VAR just isn’t working, probably because it’s being run by the same incompetent idiots as were incapable of refereeing a game without the technical “assistance”. Ruining the game when goals can’t be celebrated properly.
  13. Thanks for the responses re Morelos. I know nothing of him, just a look at the obligatory YouTube video. As most have pointed out, he’d need to sort his temperament out and make the very big step up from the poor standard of Scottish football. Probably a click bait story at the end of the day.
  14. We’re linked with Alfredo Morelos who is banging in the goals at Rangers. I have a Rangers mate, who txt me a pic of him this morning with the message, “Hands off”. He looks good on YouTube anyway. He’s Colombian so perhaps we need Jaun Pab to have a word, if he really is any good. Rumoured at £20m.
  15. This is absolutely true. I moved to The Highlands a couple of years ago and I’ve lost count how many times I’ve heard stuff along the lines of, “If you’re from Birmingham, how come you’re not black.” One bloke seriously said that he thought 90% of people from Brum we’re black. My response that it’s probably the other way round and that it doesn’t matter either way, seemed to genuinely amaze him Now I don’t think for a minute that he or people up here in general are racist, but there’s a lack of experience of meeting many people that aren’t white. This obviously effects how people perceive other areas and the people who live there.
  16. We’ve had plenty of cowboys at the club though.
  17. Don’t be daft. The net spend is about right, but this time we’ll only buy two or three...
  18. Truly pathetic rag of a newspaper. In the Dier article I read they had Everton at fourth favourites to sign him alongside West Ham with us third, then about two paragraphs later they had them at second favourites. I’ve generally stopped reading their rubbish, I mistakenly followed a link to the article. Confirmed I haven’t been missing anything.
  19. I agree that mistakes, some of them terrible have been made, but I feel that there’s still an aura about the place. I could just be a sentimental old romantic though!
  20. The Europa League isn’t helping them and their owners have lost 1 billion in the Thomas Cook collapse. They’ve recently said that they’re looking for new investors, so perhaps the future for Wolves isn’t quite as rosey as it was 12 months ago.
