I obviously haven't watched him play as much as our resident Calum Chambers experts who have seen him be crap every time they've watched him but I can definitely remember him coming on and playing well against us in our first season back. The one we lost 3-2, he scored as well iirc.

Ding ding ding. Clubs who have had sustained periods of unreasonable dominance seem to have all amassed these petulant manchild fans with hyperbolic opinions on every player. United are the worst example but there are plenty of others. Lyon also seem quite bad for it. Last season I saw Lyon fans on Reddit saying Traore was the worst footballer they'd ever seen with no skill and no end product. For all his faults those are the two things he seems to have most of. Bentacur might be good or not, I have not watched him enough to know but I have seen enough spoiled brat fan opinions to know they're **** worthless.

This is spot on. He didn't appear out if thin air when we signed him. He was already confirmed to be an excellent player. Anyone making their judgements on his ability from one or two unsuccessful passes or an unlucky dribble attempt were obviously going to be wrong.
