I'm not sure its entirely true that someone else would have to start 'from scratch' , The base of the squad is pretty well formed and fit for purpose as a promotion challenging side , and we are just seeing players added who bring depth and experience , any new manager will want to add 3-5 players anyway so the fact that these players wont be still kicking about on long contracts could be a good thing.

What an incredible coup for the club , No one would of been surprised to see John Terry sign for a top half prem team or a host of top European clubs . His choosing of Villa it is a very encouraging indication of his appetite to continue competing , I am sure he could of gone places for mega bucks like china, or gone to a number of sunny destinations where he is basically on a well payed holiday, Villa was probably the most high pressure option to him , and the only one where there will be pressure on him to perform and on the team to get results. He should get the armband , Chester is a great player and a decent captain but Terry is the more natural leader though It will be a very strange aesthetic to see him in a Villa shirt.
