We've found 7 goals in the last 2 PL matches without Watkins scoring. We have multiple different scoring outlets now. Obviously if he was injured it would be a big loss - he's an important first team starter - but we could set up to mitigate that even without any more forwards in.

Hmmm. Emi doubtful...cue meltdown when Olsen is in the team announcement. They beat Man U 3-0 in a closed door game this week as well. Not going to be easy.

For all the lack of quality in Everton and Hibs, a lot of the space Digne has been getting is also down to Diaby/Bailey worrying teams and defenders having to track them, leaving Digne with the freedom to cross. Will be a problem for a lot of sides.

Sounds like it's JPB (or his agent) pushing for it for more guaranteed playing time rather than Unai trying to ship him out. With a low buyback it's not necessarily the worst plan for all parties.

Equally, there is an argument that if we are bringing in another CF it would be better to have someone who offers something different from Ollie so we can change things up when it's not working with/for him.

Yes. We looked a bit rattled in the match by the Mings injury coming so soon on the back of the Emi2 news and it'll certainly mean we'll now take a little longer to get fully firing but under Unai there is no better manager to adjust tactics and plans. We still have a few weeks to go for recruitment of new bodies - and I'm certain we will be active. There are a lot of really rubbish teams in the league - we are still going to be competing for the same European places come the sharp end of the season IMO. The only way is up from 20th, right. Right?

Yeah - having everything agreed, medical done etc, but only documents not signed, that's pretty shitty. Wherever he ends up, he'll be psyched for the matches against Chelsea.

Damn. Whatever your feelings on Emi, another major change to personnel at this point is a nightmare for preparations. Had the feeling this was really going to be the season for him. Gutted.

100% - this is how i see it too and don't see much in the summer transfers to change this view. Possibly Man U a step ahead with Ten Hag having had a season, but we should be competitive with them. The key will be putting away the lower/mid teams - can't afford too many shock results, though there are bound to be a couple through the season.

I dunno. DL's pass for the Diaby goal was pretty special and not the first time he's done that. Getting very excited for the season ahead now.

This Pubil link has the whiff of Moreno about it - pretty much unknown, out-of-nowhere link and from profile looks like a really good back up/alternative to Matty.

He did also say this at the start of the window, so not much of a surprise. He obviously rates Duran and will be good to see Archer get opportunities. I wouldn't be surprised to see one more wide forward added, but don't think we were ever looking at a pure striker.

And how do you propose they get proven at this level without giving them the chance? We're not going to loan to a PL team. If the coaching team think they are ready/good enough then that's fine by me.

Yes. While there are players that will eventually need upgrading, with 3 in already and assuming a couple more to come, we need to keep a level of continuity to build on last season. That was a tight knit and strongly performing group that we need to enhance, not overhaul.
