  1. Lateral raises were a big problem for me. They always seem to twinge something however lately I've been doing a variation where you hold the weights at shoulder height in front of you with a bend in the shoulders then you raise your arms up and down like you are pouring out 2 jugs of water. Creates a really good burn. Not sure if I explained that well or not though!
  2. Sorry, I've taken it off topic completely. All I was trying to say was that I felt the defensive midfield role was one that often goes under the radar but that the players who play with a good one in their side usually value them massively. Sanchez has definitely had some iffy performances and cost us some goals but he has also had some very good performances. I think he'll improve as he gets up to the pace of the English game.
  3. Maybe we can just play them both? Guzan would be a handy centre back.
  4. I was using Makelele as a reference for the position. Defensive midfielders often go under the radar. I think Sanchez's positives far outweigh his negatives and he is a massive asset.
  5. You can be pretty sure all you like, he did.
  6. That shouldn't be the case. Quite the opposite in fact. Putting in overt defensive work like tackling, intercepting, tracking etc. should be easily noticeable. It should be yes but I think it still gets overlooked. Its almost like the Westwood debate, some people see him as someone who just passes it sideways, others as someone who dictates play. It might well be down to people's preference. I much prefer the defensive aspect of the game because thats the position I play and get the most enjoyment from. I'd probably miss the subtle things that, say a winger does well because it doesn't interest me as much.
  7. Cheers Stefan, Thats pretty much what I was trying to say. The role didn't 'exist' so to speak before the importance of it was raised.
  8. Makelele absolutely did go under the radar for an incredibly long time. It wasn't until his team mates started to point out the important role that he played in the team that pundits started to focus in on the importance of a defensive minded midfielder. His good points shouldn't be cancelled out because of mistakes. If he is still making the mistakes on the ball that he does this time next season then i'll be concerned but I don't think he will and I think he is a massive asset to the team.
  9. This suggests those that think he played well are able to see stuff others can't. No it doesn't. It suggests that the role of a defensive midfielder is usually very understated and the positives they bring to a team often go unnoticed. Players that used to play with Makelele would say he was the best player in their team. I'm not saying he is anywhere near Makalele but its that 'water carrier' style of player who usually goes under the radar.
  10. Sanchez is always going to be one of those players who's good work will generally go unnoticed but I bet the rest of the team love playing with him.
  11. Scraped it? I thought we were perfectly good value for that win.
  12. Yes and I don't get it. The whole Gil thing is a perfect example. It's just their prerogative then.
  13. I'm sure the people who have been critical have explained why though haven't they?
  14. To be honest we are just use to feeling like crap. I can fully understand people being cautious because its very rare that things go well for us in recent times.
  15. Its completely different to Lambert. He used to just pass the ball sideways or backwards as soon as he got it. The pass he played to Bacuna against Sunderland was a pass I hadn't seen him play under Lambert, he's now much more direct. If we can get him to sign then that's brilliant. He genuinely looked happy celebrating with Gabby yesterday so I think he is enjoying his football now.
  16. Tim knows the English game. He knows the size of this club and I honestly think dragging a club of this size off the ground would be a challenge to suit the size of his ego more so than jumping ship. Honestly, who is he going to go to? We are as big of a club as any of the teams in the top 6 and he knows that, we just aren't acting like it.
  17. I think Tim will make him stay. I reckon he'll make a deal with him along the lines of stay one more season, see how we progress, if it doesn't meet the agreed targets then agree to sell him. Benteke clearly enjoys his football atm. I also don't think his next step is going to be a seasoned Champions League club just yet. Calls of Real Madrid and Barcelona are a bit wide of the mark for me. Wolfsburg would be the sort of team I could see him at. An up and coming team with plenty of funds to make their mark in their league.
  18. I found it funny that Delph took instant disliking to Soldado when he came on. He has such an expressive face, you could see by the way he was looking at him he was thinking "Who is this clown?"
  19. Thought he did fine yesterday, much better than against QPR. Can be rash at times defensively but then again he isn't a natural defender. Good squad option.
  20. Gotta say, the commentary from Jonathan Pearce on MOTD was utterly loathsome.
