I was going to write a long message but I really think it’s all been said, I hope Scott moves on, The end.

Didn’t see the game but from what I read/already knew we need to offload bree, green and hogan with Elmo and Kodja coming back should be ok for numbers but could do with a couple more hopefully, players like Taylor, Thor and Lansbury will be ok for squad players ie happy to sit on bench and play cup games for championship wages.

Thought I’d give this thread a nudge as was one of the big stories on sky sports news today. Think it should be easy to land this guy for a reasonable price. I guess we have bid around 3 million for him and Burnley have laughed that off, maybe saying something like maybe 8m to 10m or something but all Heaton has to say is I’m 33 this is my last big chance please let me leave plea in public and we go back in with a 5millon offer and they are kinda forced to accept it on a morale level,

I think people just need to forget about this Santa Claus thingy, if he helps us stay up and become a established premier league club again where we can attract our own quality players then so be it. Let’s use them and worry about what ifs later.

I think we absolutely are or have been in advanced talks with Leeds regarding Phillips, I don’t particularly think it’s gone well or in our favour but you can be in advanced talks without getting the deal over the line and then moving on.

Because we can’t name our price with him I guess and it’s makes it very easy for him to leave unlike other players that are in contract.

I agree, if not it may be awkward when his son invites him round for dinner at dean smiths for chicken dinosaurs, chips and alphabet spaghetti.

I think this transfer will happen eventually. I have been bored and went back through loads of topics and found 3 players that were linked with us well before they actually signed, players and dates thread started below. There isn’t normally smoke without fire and as they’ve started contract talks it does seem likely we are in? Will it go the way of Jack last year and stay with his boyhood club or we he be tempted by the draw of the premier league and a big pay rise? Well pretty sure he hung around when we were up the creek last year. Also on top of that he played through the pain barrier and damaged his knee possibly permanently due to playing for us because our incompetent management leaving us with no recognised centre backs, he’s earned the right to stay with us and i have every confidence if called upon he will put in a good shift.

Of what not being 20m? Or Being a top quality defender who has won most things, capped by England many times, a wealth of experience, scored overhead kicks against blue noses and probably has a soft spot for us? And on top of this is free?

See Bournemouth have agreed a deal with Luton town for a defender. Does this signal that they will sell Mings now I wonder? They seem to have many defenders so hopefully.

Great post. Think he’d be a great signing to be honest. Will never hurt to have a little experience in the team and he brings that with him in abundance. Don’t see why the negativity, if he’s still good enough he’ll play, he won’t have the pace but next to a younger CB like Mings or hause they can use there pace and CB is probably the best outfield position for a older head. People moan that there’s lack of transfers then shoot down any player we’re linked with, typical villa fans lol. perhaps they read these forums and think no thank you they are a bunch of moaning fickle fans.

I dont understand why people are so against this, there is no smoke without fire and the fact that Leeds are offering him a new deal tells you their is substance to this and the fact they are is how much they rate him. I’d love it if we got him, he’s young, hungry and English, imagine him and Jack having stand out seasons and breaking into the England team. As someone else said he would be in our team for years, I really want to us to sign him, I’d be more happy with this signing that Tyrone Mings.

100% agree, the USA game is just a exhibition match for brand awareness and probably to appease Wes Eden’s. Real pre season starts when we get back and I’m sure a few things will have been sorted out by then, it’s not panic stations at all yet, chill people chill, we just warming up.

Yeah great player no doubt will go on to have a great career, thankful for his input last season but we move on.

Butland 20m Cahill free Philips 20m Mings 12m and I think we’re there until January, think BB will be good enough to cover in the premier holding or wing like he does for Iceland, plus Green can cover left or right wing. Would like a couple more but not greedy and I think we would hold our own for a few months at least.

Had one last year. Brought one firstly because when the club were looking in finical trouble last year i thought it would be good way to give the club money without much coming back my way, secondly I work shifts so can’t get to as many games as I’d like so to help get tickets, got a few home and away but they were still pretty hard to get so imagine will be even harder this year but also helped me get a ticket for play offs which was a bonus, even though lots of people moaned everyone had a chance to buy a membership at the beginning of the season
