  1. One will never know; but if they had then gone on to continue in their trajectory they would have been even bigger. A few years ago I was driving down one of the many strips in LA and on KROQ on came Joy Division. In that moment under the LA sun, it made perfect, perfect sense. Had they had even had a quarter of the desire of the Irish foursome they would have undoubtly taken that mantle of the ‘biggest band in the world’. But thank God they didn’t
  2. i thought we did but couldn't afford the £2m asking price ..so brought Kinsella instead You bid for Cahill after we had, he came to talk to us first, signed there and then and dropped in to Villa on the way back to apologise. That's what I have heard off different people. Taylor said somewhere that he was ready to sign him, and then he got injured. Can only think that it would have been in the April before you signed him.
  3. And how is Andy van der Meyde doing? Don’t get me wrong; Moyes and Smith have bought some great players (Gravesen, etc, etc); but like any club (Villa being pretty guilty) of buying some utter dross. The notion that a £6m doesn’t suit the league and plays only one game, suggests that at times the scouts get it spectacularly wrong...
  4. Pity about the others that weren’t so good along the way... Where is Alex Nyarko these days or even better Per Koldrup?
  5. Aye; sums it up nicely for me. Great game, great day out and generally a fairly fuzzy Sunday...
  6. Its the message it sends out. Yes Hamilton’s victory is amazing, and his rise to stardom from where he comes from is unbeliveable. BUT; how many people really can hopefully aspire to that? Well firstly half the population can’t; haven’t seen women do it. Stuff like swimming, cycling, athletics (Christine Ohuruogu is one of the nominees) are stuff we can all do. F1 remains and will always be by its nature an elitist sport (nothing wrong with that), the others are things that five years old can take up and be inspired by. This is what the Olympics are about. Its about those people who have watched Boardman in Barcelona and now are rising to the top. People who watched Sally Gunnell and are now rising to the top. But its not just that its about people actually swimming or running or cycling just for fun. Coe has talked about a ‘legacy’; what is the legacy we want to leave? We have a massive problem with sport and getting children to do it; particularly amongst girls, we need positive messages, not the same ones. I think Hamilton is deserving of it, and in any normal year he would be a clear winner. This year is different; people like Hoy or Addlington offer the real hope for young.
  7. Oh go on then What about Alex Ferguson for the Sports personality.League and Champs league... Only a thought Fergie on the BBC?! Manure will win sports team of the year, little doubt about that. I think that is going to the cycling team from the Olympics
  8. which would rule out Murray as he has none ..saying that never stopped Mansell winning it I'd expect it to be 1. Hamilton 2. Murray 3. Token other Murray won’t beat the Olympians.
  9. Bit confused by the list; the BBC are suggesting some other names and I am not sure where Rob Hayles comes into this (not selected for Beijing); or have I missed someting? I think Hamilton will win it. Personally I would like Rebecca Addlington to win it. On this male centric board, its far to easy to gloss over women’s sport as being irrelevant and crap; Addlington proves otherwise. She won two gold medals, and in the 800 metres, broke one of the longest standing records in the pool. I think her winning will send out the positive signs to young girls. Hoy’s achievements are incredible and would be my personal second favourite. Think Nicole Cooke who won the double would be another good choice; but like Addlington has less chance because she doesn’t look ‘fantastic’
  10. Well actually thats not entirely true, its all the converts who go around telling everyone how they couldn’t do without it!
  11. Couple of pints of Addlestones at the local; pretty nice Cider, though not up to Normandy standards...
  12. Trump’s is his own, however strange it may be.
  13. It would seem that everyone wants to give Labour a good kicking? Keir Hardie must be turning in his grave.
  14. If you happen to have inherited a massive estate with a falling down house, the need for a new roof, and death duties, with no money to pay the death duties, you have a pretty stark set of choices to make. You need to make money somehow, and work would seem to be an obvious one. This isn’t to say you should feel sympathy, but the idea that its all an easy life for all of the ‘aristocracy’ is one that doesn’t pan out. Also more likely to have gone to a public school
  15. Luckily they are redeemed by several things. They made an album with Phil Spector. The t-shirts were quite good. But most importantly Dee Dee Ramone AKA Dee Dee King, was one of the first and most influential white rappers; releasing the classic ‘Funky Man’. More can be found and also
  16. Will Labour be playing D Ream’s Things can only get better?
  17. Sadly this poll does not allow multiple voting as sometimes practised in various parts of the country, or some dodgy mail votes to boot.
  18. In the name of democracy I ve added the other options, as I am sure the Solidarity candidate will prevail
  19. The man speaks sense. By far the best wine and booze selection...
