I dunno, when you get on that A1 up in the North East, there is bugger all traffic, no police, no cameras and just a straight run more or less, with the Toon the only thing in the way. May could have put his toe down and gone quite a bit faster than the train. The A1 north of Newcastle is full of cameras, and isn’t that fast if you get stuck between the border lorries But the idea was that they were supposed to be ala 1948; they used to run non-stop trains from Kings Cross-Edinburgh which did the trip in 6hours 30 minutes. I doubt a car could do that if it behaved legally at the time, let alone now. A train now can do it in under 4 hours. No car could legally do that, or possibly illegally...

  10. recommend you do the run/walk thing. Just doing 10 miles walking is a pretty big thing, so running it which is going to take at least 1 1/2 hour (8 minute mile pace) is well something else. You need to get some stamina before you can possibly think of speed.
  11. Spot on. The perfect manager, who doesn't make mistakes, doesn't exist. What I expect from Mon over the coming years is for him to keep improving us and pushing us forward. I also accept though that along the way he will make mistakes and we will have bad results and run of results, has we have recently, but overall I believe he will continue to take us forward. Thats the point - all managers make mistakes, MON has made mistakes The difference is, average managers don't see the mistakes (Mowbray !) Good managers make mistakes and more mistakes and more mistakes Great managers make few mistakes, and very rarely make the same mistake twice ! (perfect example was Fergies replacement for Schmiecal) We will see next season which one of the three MON is. Now spending 30 million quid of Shorey, Davies, Young, Cueller and Knight - and still ending up playing NRC as centre back and Gardner at RB whilst Young is at LB - thats a mistake !. Is he allowed it - yes. If we are still the same next season - then you have gotta ask the question what the hell is he doing. If you actually look at the number of ‘massive’ mistakes even someone like Fergie has made you wonder how he’s survived. The point seems to me that the amount of ‘massive’ right decisions have outweighed them. For every Veron you have a Cantona, Ronaldo, etc, etc... And I doubt very much that he would ever publicly admit he has ever made a mistake! So in the case of MON it seems to me that the positives still outweigh the negatives. Now over the next couple of seasons we will be reaching a critical point; can he take us further, and here’s a galling one maybe the club itself can’t reach the heights it once did....
  12. Who is going to stop him making mistakes? Is Randy going to tell him? Are we?
  13. On the other hand, Liverpool ditched Houliier and Benitez won them the Champions League in his first season, ditto Chelsea with Mourinho. I believe that Chelsea and Liverpool are bigger draws than us; therefore they could ‘upgrade’. I am not sure we can; MON at the present is as good as we can get. I don’t believe someone like Martin Jol (or Dick and Kok) would be an upgrade, rather a side ways move
