  1. My understanding is that in the premier league there's a lot more focus on owner investment, whereas in the championship it's about the clubs being self sufficient and sustainable. Owners in the championship as a whole are no where near as wealthy. Rich owners also make it easier to pump cash into the club via share issues, training ground sponsorship etc. I don't think we have an issue really, we could easily spend up to £150m this summer and if we stay up I would imagine we will invest accordingly moving forwards too. It's only been 3 years but the ambition of transfers for clubs like West Ham, Crystal Palace etc has changed unbelievably! When we were last up there was not a chance West Ham would have players like Felipe Anderson for example.
  2. I guess it depends on how you consider a clubs wealth. Farhad Moshiri is worth about $2bn, whereas Sawaris & Edens combined are worth at least $10bn. Being in the premier league for the past three years and getting huge revenue because of this is obviously a huge advantage, but look at Wolves. Even Fulham, Khan is worth about $5bn and they spent $100m. I guess a super rich owner only means so much because it's down to what they want to invest but based on the cash injections we've seen in companies house and their combined wealth I really don't think 30/40m signings are beyond the realms of possibility.
  3. The day Wolves signed Neves in the Championship my whole opinion on transfers changed. The Premier League is where it's at now, and we're in it. There's only 20 teams. The really exciting thing for me is that we still have no idea how ambitious our owners are going to be. I think Villa fans are pessimistic by nature (me certainly included), but we are 8X richer than Everton and they signed Richardson for £50m, Sigurdsson for £45m etc. Things have changed and nothing is impossible any more imo.
  4. I think you've misread the article mate. I've read it and it refers to Celtic in a battle with us for Maupay if they need to replace Edouard rather than us being in for him.
  5. I think we're going to see quite a few left field signings. Similar to the Guilbert one, he was mentioned in a short article - next week it was all happening within an hour of the interest being public knowledge. Apart from Jota (which does make sense from a squad building perspective), I think we'll see a few surprises. It's feels quite a strange window already for me. Last time we were in the Premier League teams like Watford, West Ham and Everton were simply not targeting the level of players they are now. I think that because we've been out of the league for a few years now it's a little hard to adjust to the colossal difference in quality of the necessary signings. The teams I mentioned are continuously linked with top Seria A, La Liga etc players. Do you guys thinks it's going to be the same for us as the window goes on?
  6. Renewed for the 19th year of my 27 on earth. Capacity for season tickets will probably be set at around 27,000 I'd imagine. Have we ever sold out of season tickets before ? We're basically Man Utd. I also wonder if we can consolidate in the Premier League will a ground expansion actually ever be a feasible idea? To be honest, a deep clean of the north stand and some claret and blue panelling over the concrete would be a fantastic start!!
  7. If he's a back up then it's okay. Starter and terribly disappointing.
  8. Jota from Blues is having a medical as part of a swap with Gardener. Not a fan of that tbh.
  9. Has anybody heard of Jean-Philippe Mateta? Plays for Mainz 05 in Bundesliga. 14 goals in 34 this season and he's only 21 years old, 6'4 and looks a bit of an animal. This is the type of player I would like us to go for. Reminds me of a young Benteke.
  10. Would be all over this. Would fit perfect in the role sitting behind Mcginn and Grealish. Does anybody else remember us being linked with him when Dr Tony first took over? That was just a tad incorrect. I've just read an article about him saying that Napoli would be willing to let him go for 20m Euro. We're going to be linked with so many players now though and literally nobody knows how much ambition we're going to show this summer. How much do people think we're going to have to spend? 50m, 75m , 100m??? Struggling to even guess myself.
  11. That's awesome mate. Love this. Did he say anything?
  12. Accidentally went clicked on the first page instead of the most recent (234 ). Gardner is nowhere near good enough where we would have wanted to be in the Championship let alone the premier league. Fanciful thinking to think he's going to be a success here. The above message was from 2011. 8 YEARS! He's shown nothing. I for one absolutely never want to see him in a Villa shirt again. He can go back to Small Heath to play for Bham/Cov.
  13. I am concerned that they did not discuss singing Mbappe.
  14. Martin Ødegaard? Been unbelievable for Vitesse this season. He'd be a perfect player for a Dean Smith team. Doubt he'll get a proper chance at Madrid.
  15. I think the main reason that I would like to go up is because I'm desperate to see how ambitious our owners are. For example will we be looking to go all out for young European talents like Joao Felix?? Teams like Wolves and West Ham have shown that it's possible to sign top players from foreign leagues. I think because of the money now, the days of only the top 4/5 singing top players are gone. What are peoples expectations of what the summer could hold if we are success full on Monday?
  16. He's not signing. It literally says beneath the video 'Defender Tyrone Mings talks about the Play-Off Final, his close relationship with the fans and Derby County.'
  17. Absolutely not a chance of getting Tuanzebe for £5-10m. If we do convince United to sell it would 100% be £20m+. He's 21m with huge potential. Solanke was £19m and that Bristol Left Back just signed for Bournemouth for £13m.
  18. Why is the painted girl at the end crying? What do you know Kappa? Tell us now what you know.
  19. We have absolutely no idea of either what league we are going to be in, or how much money our owners intend to invest. If we do go up, they could literally be looking to spend anything between £10m and £150m. Impossible to know!
  20. How confident are people feeling? I'm not sure why (well I do, I'm a huge pessimist with all things Villa), but after last year I can not visualise anything other that walking out of that Stadium heartbroken again. Am I the only one?
  21. Horrendous to think of the undoubtable disparity regarding transfer links over the summer depending on the result of a single game of football: We Win = Aston Villa close to completing the signing of exciting Benfica forward... We Lose = Aston Villa are considering the signing of Preston Central Midfielder Ben Pearson.
  22. Will he still be be fasting during the final? 3pm might be an issue if it's a hot day in London like it was last year.
  23. I don't know why but I don't think Smith will work. So many managers become flavour of the month and the reality is far from the initial excitement. The whole situation reminds me of Lambert. If he comes I will back him to the hilt, but I don't think it will work. We need a manager who will instantly gain respect and give the whole place a lift, it that Smith?
