I was talking to a fellow Villa supporter this morning and we were debating… Finding ourselves 3 points (or even 5 points if you assume Brighton win their game in hand) from 6th place, with the form we’re currently in, going on the basis that Liverpool, Chelsea and possibly Spurs even are not going to be as poor next season, do we risk bringing in a couple of summer targets in this window, even if it means overpaying? I’m not talking about paying double or anything like that, but the opportunity for European football is there. I had written off this season, but the way that other teams have been playing and our upturn in form has opened the door imo. Would an extra £5m or so to get deals done now be worth it to try and sneak into Europe?

What do we think HQ is? His bedroom or his shed?

Luis Michel Echegaray is a tv presenter for ESPN (formally of CBS) in the US, but he’s an Aston Villa fan from his time in the UK as a teenager. Obviously fairly connected from links with Fabrizio Romano etc, but also just speaks sensibly as a supporter. If you’re on twitter, give him a follow.

I really want this one to happen, even if he is the only midfielder we bring in. Knows the league, knows how to play with our best midfielder, nice age, reasonable price considering all factors.

I can’t lie to you guys, I really don't know very much about this Jhon Durán, having watched very little of him play. However what i do know is that he is the greatest footballer in Colombian history, he's scoring 30 goals next season, winning player of the year and he's taking us to the Champions League!

I’m trying to stay grounded, while the results in the league have been fantastic I think as has shown in a few of the performances, we are still at the very early stage of things under Unai. I’d take a 10th place finish right now, it’s all about getting things together to hit the ground running in August for me.

What a wonderful player, and I don’t think he’s even close to his potential yet.

I know there are one or two concerns, not necessarily with Emery as such, but with giving the manager control. Normally I would agree, but I believe 100% that we have the right man in charge.

He’s probably my favourite Villa player. While I’m sad that he left the club the way he did, he was the best player in the best side we’ve had in the last 20 years imo.

Unai has played the old “I want to break up, but we can still have sex now if you want” card. Nice, I bet he does it in such a way that you’re apologising to him for letting him down.

I don’t buy into this whole “The Premier League, the best League in the world” stuff, but there are some players who’s skill set allows them to be very successful here and it just seems that Leon Bailey is one of those not made for the PL. I could see him going back to the Bundesliga. I think he will be gone by August at the latest.
