  1. I've been wanting to give him some more time, however the physicality of the team in midfield was awful last night, too easily bumped off the ball, rather than moving the ball quicker, lost possession etc Don't see how he is going to turn it around.
  2. Maybe this will give some clarification. Table 1. 3. Just terrible news, he looked like a quality player, feel sorry for him as good form probably would have got him a call up for Brazil at the World Cup. I hope he recovers and back on the pitch asap.
  4. I agree as well. But the fact is some athletes will say they believe but in fact aren’t prepared to do the 1%’s to achieve their full potential, not prepared to make sacrifices to achieve this goal. I think Gerrard see’s this in a couple of players and is challenging them to be better, and these same players may not like being out of their comfort zone for too long.
  5. Did they actually have belief, or all got behind Grealish and played above themselves?
  6. Training has never changed over the years becuase your talking about muscle memory and adaptation to training, these only change over time, simple skills quicker than others, complex ones longer. Do you really think watching a video is going to make you fitter to press high and more often during a game? There’s different components of analysis which have developed over the last 30 years but they just give the coach more ready available information, the hard work is still done on the pitch and you have to know how to understand and deliver the information to the athletes.
  7. The book has had many revisions and suttle name changes over the years, the latest revision is, Theory and methodology of training, by Tudor Bompa. If you look up the author you will find it.
  8. Your right, and I have clearly stated from his appointment that he wasn't ready nor the right person for the job. But I disagree with you on using the Scottish League as a reason why he can't be a good manager. People forget that this wasn't the normal Rangers, it was a club that was demoted to the lowest league and had to rise again, without the resources it once had and was still recovering. In three seasons he won the league and got to a quarter final of the Europa League, the club then stepped to the final last season. He built a squad on limited resources that went further than the Premier League representatives, its a poor narrative.
  9. Thanks scoop, bad managers are bad at there jobs. Is it that they are bad or out of their depth or not yet have the experience to implement their ideas? Reality is you don't know, there just opinions based on a result, not the whole picture. You should read what I said, I said my background doesn't matter and no more important than any other fan, but science and the methodology of sport doesn't lie. It's complex and takes time for coaches to develop and implement their style of play. Simple is easy, but almost always comes undone.
  10. Yes but what you left out is the elite managers have had the experience to learn what works and what doesn’t work over many years. Do you really think Conte would have had the same affect in his first couple of years of coaching? He made the mistakes and learnt his way through his early years of coaching, your commenting on the finished article, Gerrard is far from the finished article. With regards to Tuchel, very one was expecting Chelsea to challenge for the title last season, they were far from it and he hasn’t improved them from his first short season after Lampard. Potter is more experienced and learned his trade in lower leagues and Viera will be better judged on this season and if he can take them forward. You need to compare apples with apples.
  11. Well people are entitled to there opinions, but a majority have no coaching ability or knowledge to back their opinions. We don’t know what goes on behind closed doors, the interaction with players etc etc My waiting 12 months is based on the science of coaching and what needs to be done across the board to enact a coaching/ tactic or style. This is based on the development of many different sports over the last 150 years. Not reacting to a result because it’s not the result we want. Ive watched Villa play since 1976 and it doesn’t make me a better supporter or more knowledgeable than any other supporter just becuase I’ve coached football and worked at a professional football club in Australia. We don’t know everything far too many coaches are sacked based on results and far to early for them to make the change required to get a team to a style. I see contradiction after contradiction every day on this site from forum users saying this coach is crap, then the same coach is good 12 months later, same happens with players, administrators, playing style etc etc. I’ll stick to the science and give the manager the opportunity to implement his style, I’m not going to react after one poor game. If there’s no reaction against Everton then his days may well be short.
  12. Well, you could read the theory and methodology of training by Tudor Bompa to start, it highlights how training is complex and can take 12 months for effective change to be implemented on athletes. I would also argue that Gerrard is not an elite manager and nor had the experience and years to hone his message to implement and fast track the requirements of his tactics. This is the difference between the elite coaches and others who are not. I don’t know what Gerrard is at this time, I was never a supporter of his appointment. But in glimpses, I see what he is trying to do. Whether he can deliver is another question and I’ll make my decision as I said on this site on the first day of his appointment in 12 months time, which is November.
  13. I’m not convinced it’s coaching, yet. Coaches may be able to get simple short/medium term fixes, but it is generally because their tactics are simple and easy to implement. They eventually come undone and their tactics exposed. Anything that is long term in coaching and effective tactically takes time and the manager needs at least 12 months to build the foundations and have the right athletes to be able to deliver those directions tactically. This is difficult and some players don’t have the ability to deliver.
  14. I think Rodgers is the safe bet, he's a proven Top 6 coach and will have the resources he needs to make us compete against those teams.
  15. I didn't think Smith deserved the sack and wasn't a fan of Gerrard's appointment, but knew it would take him 12 months to make it his team, that's still November. However, i expected us to win 3/4-0 yesterday, that was simply not good enough. The only thing I can put my finger on is a physical/mental hang over from the trip to Australia, but that is tenuous in a professional sporting organization. If we don't batter Everton next week, Gerrard needs to be replaced, no excuses. I expect a huge reaction.
  16. They all have there place some I prefer more than others. They are good to listen to in the car on the way to work.
  17. He may go onto be a very good player, but rarely do athletes with a bad attitude ever go on to do anything but promise to deceive. Good riddance and he’s guaranteed himself to be bood for the rest of his playing career if he ever does make it back to Villa Park.
  18. He was, but had more to do with some injuries we was carrying most of the season to my knowledge, but fancy Gerrard would get the best out of him.
  19. Really, thought Gerrard was looking for experience. Tielemans is at the right age and no guarantee the big clubs will be in for him. A signing like him will balance the midfield.
  20. Tielemans has 12 months left on his contract, he's the one I would be trying to sign. Instant upgrade on the midfield.
  21. It’s funny how people look from afar and make decisions on who they believe is the best person to be captain. The reality is it’s the day to day interactions, their communication skills, leadership, life away from football etc that are all taken into account as to who is the best choice for captain of a club. I wasn’t a fan of TM’s appointment as captain but also feel for him to lose it. I think he’ll be a better player without it and why McGinn will be a better player with it.
  22. Didn’t say it was an odd choice, thought it was the wrong choice. Being a leader on field is great, but Captain is something different. I want someone who lives and breathes the club, don’t think that is TM.
  23. The manager, he's clearly stated every position is up for grabs and will be chosen on form, if TM was locked in as captain we would have confirmed it already. And the club bought a left sided CD who is an upgrade on the current one.
  24. Always thought TM was the wrong choice after Grealish left, but now where he’s not guaranteed to start every match has to be Martinez.
  25. At the end of the day do we really want this type of player at the end who lauds over some type of superiority? He can go to these other clubs and not play football, even if he did sign for Villa, if he came good, he'd still be out the door like Grealish. As someone already said, there's little risk for these other teams to sign him, none of them would be in for 20 million. He thinks he's bigger and better than the club...bye!
