  1. Of course it does, because that suits your narrative. You have no other way to measure performance than the outcome of games. Win good, lose bad.
  2. If you want to take a comment out of context, then there’s nothing much to debate. I didn’t want Gerrard appointed to the club, but he is, being Australian I was looking forward to his duels with Postecoglu as I know how good a coach he is, but you would put him in the same basket as Gerrard, because he hasn’t won a title in the right league or hasn’t coached the right national team. They all do the same coaching badges, opportunities ultimately decide their fortune. At the end you don’t know and to sit there and judge managers on what they haven’t done yet, says more about the people who make those judgments. And I say that because if we had won the last two games we wouldn’t be having this conversation, which reverts to the theory that peoples opinions are based on results, not the substance of the individual involved. Quoting Purslow and making statements that you don’t know are true just reflect some of the rubbish being thrown around. There was an interview process and the manger who impressed the most got the job. Spinning it to suit a narrative is just bar stool talk and again you just don’t really know. Gone are the days when you sign a player and they just play, the best managers have intricate game plans and not every player suits that game plan. I’m not saying Gerrard is one of these managers either, but now he is the manager he deserves the time and appoint the players required to carry out that plan, then and only then he can be properly judged on his managerial capability.
  3. The reality is your judging a coaches ability by not getting the outcome you desire. Caning the Scottish league saying they aren’t good enough is saying they can’t produce a quality manager. You piece meal recent history to prove your point because the whole of history says something completely different. Moyes started coaching at Preston, saying he learnt nothing from playing for Celtic and Dunfermline early in his career is silly. The biggest club he played for and won a medal for was in Scotland. Your argument is based on Moyes from Preston to coaching in PL with Everton is ok, but Gerrard winning the title with Rangers and stopping Celtic from winning 10 years in a row is not good enough for Villa? My point is your wrong, you don’t know whether someone can coach or not, your opinion is based on results. My point was you have to be a good manager to win a title no matter where it is and I included Moyes becuase it showed that, no one would have known when appointed by Preston the coach he would become. You use the argument that good coaches don’t come out of Scotland anymore, again it’s just small minded, becuase most people know everything is cyclic, what was old becomes new again and good coaches will come out of scotland again and they probably already have, your narrow vision just hasn’t seen it yet.
  4. Just because you assume a point doesn’t mean I am wrong. Some have the consensus that Scottish is bad, my point was that good managers have coached in Scotland and been successful elsewhere in Moyes case it was because he was Scottish and proved to be a good manager. I knew Moyes coached at Preston as his first gig, it wasn’t the point I was making you assumed otherwise.
  5. Yeah ok champ, the conversation was around good coaches having coached in Scotland and being proven in the PL. Someone wanted to use a small period in time to prove their point, rather than take the whole history. Eg Lennon who had no competition when Rangers where demoted to make a point. There was a time not too long ago where the Scottish managers where considered the best and England was struggling to produce good managers. Maybe take some of your own advice and get all the facts.
  6. Rodgers… you quote Lennon when the only reason he won those titles was because of Rangers demotion. Wasn’t until Gerrard came in that they became competitive again. PS they are still Scottish and learnt the trade there.
  7. I’m going to be patient until this Xmas. I don’t see a huge rebuild occurring, but I do see key position acquisitions occurring DM, CD maybe a Striker. Some players may be moved on, but 3-4 need to be moved on because they aren’t good enough. Everything everyone is going on with is mere speculation.
  8. So you pick the worse managers to prove your point, could have chosen Ferguson, O’Neil, Moyes etc etc
  9. It’s easy to diminish the Scottish league, some act like Ronald MacDonald could manage either of the big clubs and win, reality is he wouldn’t last to Xmas. People were also writing off Postecoglu at the start of the season at Celtic, there now on top of the ladder. They all do the same coaching licenses. Some good managers have come from the league over the years and no different from appointing a promising manager from the Championship. His playing CV is just far superior. I wasn’t a fan of SG’s appointment, but he’s convinced me it’s worth being patient. He may not be successful in the end, but I’m going to give him the time to show it. Some Villa Fans have a history of writing people off and labelling them far to early, whether a player or coach.
  10. Some seem to ignore the psychological part of a new tactic and being accepted and understood by each player. If you want something simple, then it will be learnt quickly, something as intricate as Gerrard’s tactics take a long time to be established and each player will understand their roles at different speeds. How Gerrard and his coaching staff deliver messages will also be a challenge as they have to learn how each player accepts information. It may all be gobble gook to most fans but that is modern day coaching, anything worthwhile anyway.
  11. I understand everyone's frustrations, I'm disappointed with the last couple of performances and we're probably going to get more of it in the coming weeks. But I'm hoping this is an adaption period to Gerrard's tactics. He was clear before the last international break what the time would be used for, some players went away on international duty and haven't had the time to bed down the tactics. He was always going to get to Xmas of next season to be judged by me, but we should start to see the shoots of that hard work hopefully over the next month. What I'm saying could be completely wrong, but going to take Gerrard at his word and hopefully patience will reward us as fans.
  12. Leeds result yesterday was a hint the team could be flat, but we didn’t change the starting line up, naïve. Newcastle are awful and we gifted them three points.
  13. I believe Gerrard will take the club forward, but I’m not going to judge him until he’s been at the club for 12 months. He’s added experience to the team and upgraded some players, game mgt is good, but can improve. Still think we’re 2-3 quality players short to be a top 5-7 team, so will be interested to see who he brings in, in the summer.
  14. I’m interested to see what the response is like from the team. Watched Newcastle the other day, thought Everton were poor, especially going forward. Digne will need to keep Trippier in his pocket as a lot of their attack came through him. We really should be beating them.
  15. Yep agree, couldn’t give a rats you know what about the politics in Canada, totally missed the context of the line, but probably tongue in cheek, only looking for a recommendation on a good . Great analysis again.
  16. Always liked El Ghazi really thought he would take that step to be a solid PL player, however for the flashes of quality in his game he’s always lacked the consistency to be in the game all the time. Think a relegated team or team wanting promotion from the Championship will pick him up in the summer.
  17. He scored some important goals for the club, but championship quality at best, wish him well if he’s off. Geez the ref has lost the plot in the game.
  18. None of it makes much sense really, a couple of weeks ago Gerrard wanted competition for places, that has suddenly changed. Targett appeared to be up for the fight for the position, now he’s off to Newcastle? As I wrote earlier, he’s either been tapped on the shoulder if so, why now and if he has decided to leave what has changed? No way they buy him if they stay up, just doesn’t add up.
  19. I’m interested to know whether Targett isn’t up to fight for his position or whether Gerrard has tapped him on the shoulder and told him someone is on there way in…?
  20. Wouldn’t let Newcastle walk my dog let alone loan them Targett. I get it if Gerrard doesn’t rate him, but a loan for 6 months to help Newcastle and no clause to make it permanent in the summer seems strange. If they stay up they’ll be looking to buy an upgrade on Targett. Not sure how we win from this…?
  21. I’d hate to see Luiz go, always thought he was more of an 8 and he may want assurances that’s where his future lies. At 23 his best football is still ahead of him. If we bring in Bentancur and/or other, it will free him up to play in the 8, but looking at the squad numbers, someone will have to be sold and with a certain Villa starlet having not signed a new contract, you wonder what’s going to give, especially with Gerrard suggesting he wants two players for each position? If Luiz is sold some may be happy, but like Veretout etc they will be the same people in a few years asking why we didn’t keep a hold of him because his best football is still in front of him.
  22. Surprised to see this link for Bentancur a very good player, but not convinced he’s a DM. He can play like he has the ball on a string at times and is probably an upgrade on Luiz. £16m seems a little low for me, but also makes me think one of the CM’s is on their way out the door if where looking at him.
  23. Real quality from him in the second half,. Still drifting in and out of games, but is what you will get from young players.
  24. Really happy for him, taken him half a season to get up to the speed of the PL, but now starting to show his quality. Just needs to start adding those goals to his game that he is capable of.
  25. Took him a little time to settle into the game, but thought he brought a lot of energy and quality. Great start to his Villa career.
