  1. Have those teams had two years of relegation worry and piss poor investment in the club? I for one don't think another summer of poor investment is acceptable from Lerner. Lambert was a great appointment but Lerner has a lot more work to do to win me over again. I for one believe Lerner will back Lambert, but realistically, we still have a lot of players on big wages who do not deserve the money they are earning, Given, Dunne, Collins, Warnock, N'Zogbia, Ireland, Gabby & even Bent to a degree do not seem value for money when you take into account what they earn a week, relative to certain Premiership counterparts, what was Bale on before his new deal. Say Lerner has given Lambert a budget in terms of both transfers and wages. Lambert needs to gut the team at the minute then restore a foundation from which he can build on from. What is the point in over paying for players right now, the likes of a Reo-Coker or what ever who will do a job when we could take a gamble with a foreign lad or lower league player who could turn into a star at a fraction of the cost.In a years time we will be in a better position to attract players, after (hopefully) a year of relegation free worry.
  2. I said this months back some that we'd need someone to sign these players and I said Hutton fitted the mould of a Tony Pulis player. Remember when there was all this hype about him at Rangers? People come in here then putting up names of SPL players.
  3. That's two back to back beatings at Upton Park, Haye beating Chisora & then Villa spanking them first game of the season.
  4. From Sky. Felix Magath is prepared to bury his differences with Simon Kjaer and offer the defender a fresh start at Wolfsburg. The Danish defender has previously expressed a desire to move and reports have linked him with Newcastle, Lille and Fiorentina.
  5. I think I agree with the general consensus on Avengers, just maybe not to the same extent. I really liked it. I don't think I'd bother watching it again, but I enjoyed it, thought it was great, and would recommend it to others. I just didn't think it was as amazing as some people think. BUt that may be down to my dislike of that genre in general. But I'd still say it's probably the best film of that type I've ever seen. (I'm excluding the (modern) Batman trilogy from this, as despite ebing a comic book film, I don't see it as the same "type" of film) But yeah, Ironman was basically crap. Exactly where I am. Few of my mates made the bold claim it was better than TDK. Madness.
  6. That was basically my thoughts on it too. Really enjoyed it, and it's a great action film. BUt the cheesiness of those films in general will always prevent me from rating them as highly as other films. Oh, and RDJ's character, as I said at the time, annoys the hell out of me Exactly it's a movie you take the kids to see and not a great one at that, a good one ya but as you said very cheesey.
  7. I'd assume they are. PB, ya but how much is the compensation likely to be? Not much I'd imagine. Hughes is very much a spender as you said. I fancy QPR to be top ten next season & top of the discipline table or is it bottom?
  8. Sky Bet have suspended betting on Junior Hoilett joining QPR after seeing a large number of bets for the former Blackburn man to move to west London. Follow @SkyBet on Twitter for all the latest betting news. Gutted if thats true.
  9. Wishful thinking there I suspect. He will get the most out of them but this is not about Monderland and their targets. For us I would still like to see In 1 LB 2 CB 1 MF 1 Winger 1 Striker Out Warnock Hutton Collins Albrighton Bannan Delfouneso Gabby Sorry for going Off Topic AGAIN, but I dont know Rich, he'll get the best out of them but I cant see him having the money he had here or buying a Downing, Young, Milner. When you see what's left there's not much to build on. Back on topic, I agree with what you want in, assuming Guzan is a given. With regard selling players, I'd get rid of the entire back 4 from last year, could be very tough with their wages, and this needs to be done as soon as possible because we cant be going into a season with a back four who don't know each other. With regard Albrighton, Bannan, Delfouneso, I dont know how sellable they are? I think Albrighton could have a very good season, he needs to put in a lot of work though. Bannan for me is a luxury player and one we can only afford to bring on when we are up a goal or two and are trying to hang onto the ball. I'd imagine neither of the two of these are on big money and I think if we had to sell them, we'd also have to replace them and could we get better players who are happy to sit on the bench for that kind of money. When I say happy I dont mean Habib Beye happy as in they'll just pick up a cheque. The Fonz really is on his last chance and another one I think could be sold, reports of him going to Sheffield United on loan, dont know if they are true but we should send him down there and see how he gets on. I'd give Gabby one more year also. Think he was summed up nicely as Birminghams answer to Theo Wlacott.

    Quiz!

Lovely quiz finally got it on go number 4. 16, 19, 20, 21.
  11. Yup, never understood MoNs idea of waiting and waiting and waiting. A tactic which could come back to haunt us again this summer. If Martin really is interested by Gabby, then by the time the transfer funds reach AVFC's bank account, we'll probably have little to no time to re-invest it. My God they need a striker, Wickham, Campbell & Ji Dong-Won. How long till he signs Ivanhoe? Seems the logical choice to me. Actually, just looking at them and knowing the type of player O'Neill tries to sign I could see them having a right tough season.
  12. Whats give on a week 50 odd grand? Guzan cant be on more than 20k. Having been a huge fan of Shay being Irish and watched himself and Dunne save our bacon on numerous occassions, I have to say, I know he was unfit, but I fear his value could dop massively by Christmas and we'll be stuck with a goalkeeper with a long term deal on big money, missed a trick not selling him to Hughes, all imo. That being said I'll give him every chance when he comes back.
  13. Yup, never understood MoNs idea of waiting and waiting and waiting.
  14. I get the feeling that Lambert has a very good knowledge of the lower leagues as he would have to cherry pick from those clubs with Norwich to build his team really, and I think we'll sign a few more from the championship or lower all imo obviously.
  15. Matty Phillips also just given a new squad number at Blackpool so looks very unlikely.
  16. Two rumours, we were linked with Robbie Keane in The Irish Daily Star yesterday as they said he may now be surplus to requirements if they get Lampard?! Fulham were also linked and they basically said that despite a change in management Villa would still be interested, I dont see it myself as I think he's passed it although he was brilliant last year and probably played as big a hand as anyone in keeping us up. The other is Blackpools Matty Phillips from Twitter.
  17. Rennes just bought a striker, dont know if they play 442 of 433, could this affect YB's chances even further?
  18. I remember a few years back he was sat next to NRC in the team photo and his legs looked tiny compared to Nige.
  19. Depends upon the fee. I'd also be more than a little disappointed if it meant the end of Bent at Villa, but I would absolutely back the manager in his decisions With Carroll knocking down headers back to Bent in the 6 yard box you're talking about a mountain of goals.
  20. Makes a little bit of sense, dont see how AC would fit into BR style of play really, he's not the type to play long high balls into his strikers. FWIW I think Carroll and Bent would both get 40 goals a season between them if they were both here, chip in another 8-12 from Gabby and we are looking very nice. The obvious issues are the price, Liverpool would be looking to get a lot of that £35mil back and I don't think Carroll is worth much more than £10mil on current form, and the bulk of the would be potential.
  21. Was thinking the same thing. Good read. Hope we land someone this week. Or get rid of Hutton. That would be almost as good as a new signing. Just some activity anyway, in or out, nothing worse than being in the dark and nothing happening.
  22. There's a black comedy called God Bless America about a bloke who has enough and goes on a murderous rampage targeting reality TV stars Not the most subtle satire but it cheered me up. Cheers Coda, watched it last night and enjoyed it.
  23. Yes, against Burton Albion. Nice one, Villa -3 will be my bet, think we'll beat them 5-0. El Capitano surely isnt in the squad yet.
