They were on the decline. They were old. They were overpaid and they were shit. Hutton can hardly get his game for the worst team in the Primera Liga (Mallorca), Warnock has dropped into the league he was trying to drag us into (Leeds). Collins has admittedly had a good season for West Ham and Dunne; while he has been missed on occasion; has not been mourned by the Villa faithful. Even the previously-mercurial Bent has had to make way for the best strikeforce and the best striker to come Villa's way since probably the days of Saunders and Atkinson. We now have a side who are in a similar position to last year's one, but this is while they are learning their Premier League trade. This Villa side are as good as the other one but with 10 years in hand. We're on the up and we are doing it the right way. If you are intent to contain your opinions to simple glances at the league table without looking at what he's trying to do and how he's trying to do it then that's your prerogative but you're missing the point. We will be in this league next season and we'll be in a helluva better shape than we've been in a long long time. IMO he is NOT buying the right players. Why do we have to be "the youngest and the cheapest team " in the PL ? I find it all quite exciting really. I think it will help the team spirit as well if they are all young and they go through the motions together, there will always be a sense of unity there.

I was pretty shocked on Saturday morning when I was watching Sky Sports News with Jeff & the panel and they were discussing the PDC appointment and the O'Neil sacking. They were talking and Merson said "I think O'Neill did a great job at Sunderland" ... and not one other pundit picked up on it and said "Hang on, he really hasn't". They all pretty much just nodded and agreed. It's amazing how the media portray him and just never criticise him. Then again, the Sky panel are all morons anyway.

The only things that will prevent Benteke having another great season is if he either loses confidence in himself or he does an Adebayor and pretty much gives us playing football. Though, he doesn't strike me as a confidence player (like Weimann does), and I think he's got real ambition to succeed. You can just see from his body language how much he wants to score and win. He's got far too much natural talent to not push on. As long as he can keep his head straight then he will be some player in years to come, it's down to him though.

Samba might hang about because it's a meal ticket. Who'd want to buy him with what he's being paid? ... I can see Samba hanging around for a while, much to the annoyance of their fans and owner. QPR Rejected Huge offer for Samba on deadline day to take him bak to Russia. I can only assume they were aware of the silly wages he was already on and wouldn't have moved again for a pay cut. That's really strange. Completely missed that at the time.

We have a completely new backline this season and 3 of them are very young. They were never going to click and gel straight away at this level. It's no real surprise that we've conceded a lot of goals really is it? Though, it seems like they are starting to sort their stuff out (bar individual errors which all teams make). So let's see how many goals we concede next season, I'd my my mortgage on it that if we keep the same back four they wouldn't concede anywhere near the same amount as this season. Just because some stupid Villa record is being broken doesn't mean we should just sack them off and build a new backline. How about a bit of patience and let them develop? I've seen enough of all of our defenders to see that they can all play at this level (Bennett is the least likely IMO.) But Lowton has been a great player this season, I'm very fond of him and he's a solid right back. He has been part of a poor team, but that's what it is, we've been a poor team all season. We haven't really scored that many goals either, does that mean our strikers are all shite too? We lack goals from midfield, and the defenders lack protection from midfield. It's no surprise that since Delph has started playing better and the introduction of Sylla has resulted in us conceding less.

I havent watched it since I was in my teens but some of the characters it used to have were just fantastic. Stone Cold, Rock, Undertaker & Kane (when they were dark), Generation X, Mankind. I used to love all the Ministry of Darkness v Corperation stuff too.... then you had the Rock and Stone Cold going solo. All the fueds between Stone Cold and Vince were entertaining. I'm sure a huge part of me going off it was finding other interests, but I just can't imagine them having characters anywhere near as good as those anymore. The fact that Undertake, Rock and HHH are all still some of the biggest stars suggests it.

I believe you are. In fact it was one of the first things Houllier changed by bringing in a Fitness Coach IIRC. Though, lots of Villa players reacted badly to it (Dunne & Collins). Will be interesting to see how the Sunderland players react to it.

Was a great strike but not as good as Lowtons. To be honest, I'd much rather Sunderland or Stoke go down rather than Wigan. So, i'm kinda happy with the result today.

It's Man City who I worry about. They have sold Balotelli and it looks like Dzeko might be on his way out, they need another big target man to compliment Aguero & Tevez. Is Benteke ready to play for Man City? Probably not... but neither was Rodwell or Sinclair but they still bought them.

So if we stay up, and Benteke is willing to stay another year, and we offer him a pay rise with an extra year on his contract..... Does he sign it? Should sell him for 25m minimum imo.

Hmmm... let's not get too ahead of ourselves just yet. We're still only 3 points off the relegation zone. 3 of the 4 teams below us have games in hand too....
