  1. I'm sure there were some locals that objected to the currently approved expansion. I guess it depends on how many locals object and whether planning approval is swayed by that.
  2. After a certain size, adding extra capacity is more expensive per seat. A couple of thousand extra seats could be achieved by adding wraparound corners to the North Stand upper tiers, although that would swing away from the club's design language of Villa Park's standalone structures (they're going halfway by wrapping around the lower tier). I think the club will pause at 50k for a few seasons as they take stock of the demand at the seat and hospitality price points they wish to offer.
  3. No, Gerrard was doing his best to reinstate our league meetings with Walsall, thus increasing our chances of a league win against them above zero.
  4. Doesn't sound so extreme as having not won at Brentford for 70 years though! It's a slight annoyance to me when media make a statement that a club haven't beaten a team for an age without qualifying that they've barely played in that period. I mean, we haven't beaten Walsall in the league since 1930 but there's a good reason for it!

    Arsenal

Besides those two, I don't think Arsenal fans realise they actually aren't crying about a refereeing or VAR injustice. They are crying about a rule of the sport.
  6. Allowing Bournemouth's 4th would have been against the rules of the game. I thought it was increasing common knowledge that all handling, intentionally or not, by the goalscorer is a foul.
  7. I support your sentiment to look after temporarily displaced North Stand season ticket holders as best as practical, but without moving some of the 24 to 25k other season ticket holders currently occupying the prime areas of the remaining 3 stands, surely they can only be accommodated in the corners? First offer of the very few season tickets that aren't renewed could be one idea.
  8. I think other clubs have successfully applied for lower away fan numbers during special circumstances such as stadium redevelopment.
  9. Technically, with a reduced capacity we're even more likely to have a full house. Seriously though, I really hope our current tragectary continues and full houses at 50k are our near future.

    Unai Emery

Emery cam is compulsive viewing for me. Hopefully there'll be a man c one along soon.
  11. But even if I had badly hurt myself, I'd still say I'd fell over. I wonder if using 'had a fall' comes around the same time in life as adding one year when asked your age - "I'm 79 next year". Oh, so you're 78 then.
  12. Yes, I'd say similar in slang terms. But you definitely didn't 'have a fall', did you? My current thinking is 'A fall' is an expression reserved for those with reduced mobility who are adversely affected beyond very short term pain.
  13. Slight change of tack but still on thread. I'm interested in the expression - 'a fall'. Since childhood to now in my mid-fifties, if I've ever stumbled or tripped over, I've 'fell over'. However, I remember as a child being told my grandparents had 'had a fall'. It's made me wonder - at what age does someone 'have a fall'? Unless it's just me that would say I fell over?
  14. It does work well but I'd still like it on my phone. I end up double checking I've got the card on every journey to a league game, my wife always asks 'have you got the cards?' and then, upon picking my son up en-route we both ask each other - have you got your season ticket? I'm never likely to forget my phone and it'll avoid the slight jeopardy feeling of - have I remembered my cards.
  15. Me neither, but my son received the invite (an email I've actually seen) and his season ticket is now in his phone wallet, all ready to 'tap on'. Hopefully the trial will be a success and the club will roll it out to all season ticket holders soon.
  16. Some good news! Villa are trialling season tickets being added to a phone 'wallet' such as Google or Apple, enabling entry via a very quick tap on at the turnstile. Trial invitation is by email to selected fans who used their phone wallet to gain entry to the Legia Warsaw home game.
  17. Poor that Mings and Buendia aren't included in the squad though.

    Matty Cash

I think the old days of retaliation, out of sight of match officials, disappeared when VAR was introduced. Any retribution guaranteed to do damage to an opponent is likely to be counterproductive.
  19. Exactly. I've noticed a change over recent years - too many instances of what are clear yellow card fouls being claimed as possible reds. I suspect it's caused by the fans tending towards exaggeration to get noticed above all the other noise on social media and the media pundits need to add controversial talk points to drive up viewing numbers and clickbait. Cash's tackle was calculated and late but not forcefully uncontrolled or dangerous play. His tackle was just one of the many footballing offences that yellow cards are for.
  20. In fairness and despite some lingering 'sob on the Tyne' bitterness, I think the majority of their fans accepted they were well beaten that day and they were soon distracted by their own CL qualification.
  21. Possible your guy was contacted by someone else who saw Ty's social, assumed incorrectly and then began passing it on. I suspect that would cover 95% of ITKs behaviour!
  22. The estimate was 2 years and that was including the new Villa Live building, so 2 years including creating Villa Live facilities in the existing academy building should still be feasible.
  23. I think I read that transport infrastructure in the West Midlands is not funded directly by Birmingham City Council. My current guess for the short term future of Villa Park is - Phase 1 to be commenced in summer 2024 or summer 2025. Either date will ensure completion of a 50k capacity in time to host the summer 2028 Euros. No major redevelopment of the station beyond a minor tarting up of signage. 50k crowds increasing match day congestion delays, causing fans to complain to the club and local residents complaining to Birmingham City Council, who will then blame each other.
  24. This call you received - were they claiming some kind of ITK status or were they honest enough to state they'd simply noticed Tyrone's social media update?
  25. Everton told the PL that a significant part of their attempt to meet FFP regulations was thwarted by not being able to sell valuable players during a pandemic. I find it surprising if the commission ruled there was no footballing advantage to keeping, playing and benefitting from the performance and points gained from those 'valuable' players.
