  1. I suppose, in the slightest of favours, scrambling around for something, they've been monumentally awful in getting thumped 5-0 twice in three matches, that it actually can't get any worse and they're only a couple of wins from pulling themselves out of it. Nah, dead meat, sadly.
  2. enjoyed the return! first half exciting, 2nd half gaveway to a usual end of race line out - but mclaren and red bull are on a more even keel from the start which is great news. Alonso is awesome, wish he was in a team who aren't idiots and could give him a title winning car. Last lap madness. not looking good for massa mercedes? - dunno. good quali and pace for a bit, but then two retirements. lotus: kimi was awesome, grosjean, own fault but qualied well so good news for another competitive team sauber: good stuff williams: gutted for maldonado, don't think senna is going to make it force india: looking a bit flat mebbe? last lap madness aside hrt - will they finish the season? I suspect not. edit: rather obvious caveat, only one race in so very much treat early thoughts with care! Oh and JB beating LH in a straight shoot-out! Will make that battle more interesting this year too!
  3. More or less this. I grew up in a rural community but since Uni have lived in an urban one for 8 years, I sometimes feel there's alot of politics of urbanites imposing their preferences on the rural world they have no idea of. Also part of me can't help it's a case of banning something based on the people who take part. I have no interest in it myself, but I am immediately skeptical of banning anything that doesn't need to be banned, and doing so only because one may not like the 'toffs' who do it, seems pretty poor to me. Of course those who dislike it don't couch it in a '**** the toff's' line of argument but it feels like an undercurrent of those who do oppose it. If people who oppose it are veggies too, then fair enough at least the position is consistent, but if you're a meatie and call to ban it, that strikes me as a bit off. Like I said, I couldn't give a shit, personally. I

    Do you read?

Just read Soldiers of Salamis by Javier Cercas, using fiction to examine people / moments at the end of the civil war. It's excellent. He fictionalises a version of himself researching a moment in the civil war when a real personality - a Falangist writer Sancho Mazas - escapes a firing squad and then in the woods is spied by another soldier and lets him go. Really good.
  5. Just read on BBC "Some news on Fabrice Muamba now, although it is not an update on his condition, which remains critical. It emerged today that paramedics could not get the 23-year-old's heart to start beating on its own for almost two hours after he suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the pitch during yesterday's FA Cup tie between Tottenham and Bolton."
  6. sunday evening, what now mode pretty much on. Woke early did some reading, popped to uni library to do some more before coming back to enjoy the F1 highlights for once not knowing what had happened ( 8) ). Then casually followed the football, did some tidying up, read another article slowly... now in that, do I go back and prepare a presentation I have to do tuesday morning ( 20min!! haven't done one that long ever ) or leave it until the morning? I think we all know the answer to that one In fairness I worked on it and worked on another class text yesterday - which wasn't easy here in cardiff what with invites to enjoy the welsh grand slam and st paddy's day. Have managed to remain sober throughout as it happens, although a minature Kilbeggan irish whiskey in front of me, may threaten the purity of that record soon enough I suspect.
  7. How much notice is needed to re-arrange a match? I would think maybe next FA Cup weekend assuming spurs beat them in a re-match beforehand.
  8. wolves so godawfully poor. That's one relegation spot sown up anyway.
  9. excellent news. long may he continue to get better
  10. Just watched Burn after Reading for the first time. Loved it. Just wonderfully bizarre. Although I'm bias. I have a man-crush on JK Simmons voice so like anything he does however small his role Come and See going on the lovefilm list now after those recommendations.
  11. yeah, barton really should have helped his axe wielding brother and provided him with an alibily. What a disgracefully disloyal arsebiscuit.* *admittedly somewhat different circumstances, I just wanted an excuse to call JB an arsebiscuit. "nothing's ever black or white, and when it is, it usually involves a body count. "( POTUS, Jed Bartlet ) very much dependant on severity and family member. Have worked in local govt, and in a social housing dept and seen many a case of people who are clearly taking the piss so in general I dislike it and there needs to be faults to the system corrected, but I'm ambivalent about where that responsibility lies. Moral idealism of being the better change you want in the world often conflict with cynical - well if rich **** are going to exploit loopholes then, ****, I see why other people take what they can get.
  12. cheers to ajax fan for that assessment will take that quite happily. Honestly, a solid player who'll graft and do the simple things right on a free is fine by me.
  13. well there's time to get other players on bosmans in.
  14. I'm not being sarcastic but who? And yes looks like AMC is here to stay next season too.
  15. got a feeling we'll actually win consecutive games for the first time this season. Cor blimey! Wiemann to get another and Gabby to get one too.
  16. nah, get a few wins together and the fans will support him no question. Fans, i presume, want to see their team winning at the end of the day. If he can do that, then much of the hate will go away. But then, what chance him actually winning?
  17. I've really enjoyed hearing praise for Herd again. Great to see him work his ass off to become a dependable fixture.
  18. 2.50 to win on bet365. at home to fulham. good grief!
  19. Live Flesh - Almodovar - Rubbish. Can't explain why too much without spoiling the plot. But deary me, what an utterly woeful 'model' of women. Maybe that's Spain and it's mysoginist men, any woman will fall for a guy with some muscle. Urgh. Embarassing garbage. I have never bothered with Inglorious, since seeing the trailer, which made it look cretinous. Shall continue to give that one a wide berth. Up next, Burn After Reading.
  20. he's going to be here next season. I just know it.
  21. Excellent film. And quite prophetic too, from 2004.
  22. just thought, where would a new rangers start? the scottish league is a fixed pyrmaid isn't it. Aside from that one year they allowed peterhead and gretna in I know.
