  1. I hope that Gerrard has learnt more this week than he's learned in several years of management. It's not as daft as it sounds, because sometimes there are "road to Damascus" revelations.
  2. Dougie's problem for Villa is simple. He is too slow to play as a defensive midfielder without proper support. Playing further forward changes his game to a free flowing technical attacking midfielder. He will be important to us this season if he's played in his best position.
  3. Playing in front of a solid four man centre midfield is the reason imo.
  4. My lady is in Sorrento tonight. She's gone on her own for a weeks holiday to a lovely hotel in one of the most beautiful places on earth, I wanted to go but couldn't because my legs can't deal with the hills these days and Sorrento and Positano are really hilly. She's my hero because she believes in herself and never lets anything beat her. She's been my lady since she was sixteen and that was 53 years ago. Age does not diminish attraction, especially if your lady still looks like Sophia Loren (seriously) after all these years. Whatever happens with Gerrard, he's got a lovely family to support him going forward.
  5. He is a totally driven character and 100% in love with Villa. I would hand him the captain's armband for the next match against Southampton. Mcginn is a shadow of his former self and we need new inspiration. Who is more inspirational Than Emi Martinez?
  6. Gerrard made that result possible today, and the players backed him 100%. He's earned some time.
  7. I gave Ash man of the match by a big margin. He's got pace that I thought he had lost, and he's an inspirational leader.
  8. Gerrard has finally shown a bit of humility and shown some of the pragmatism that we've been demanding. His comments after the match and the circles under his eyes show that he's undergoing a lot of soul searching currently. Subbing McGinn first tonight was a big pointer to a Gerrard who is finally listening and hopefully learning. I'm not saying that SG can fully make the change required, but his approach today and the support that the players gave him is encouraging.
  9. I think that Brendan Rodgers needs a good rest when he parts company with Leicester. Pochettino is a serial 2/3 season turnover manager. Potter is a manager who may see Villa as a long term challenge that defines his career. Potter for me.
  10. This club is a hell of a lot bigger than Gerrard , hold onto that thought. We will be here long after he's joined the ex footballer pundits on Sky. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's game, win lose or draw as I always say.
  11. I guess it's easier for me to be happy about being a Villa supporter because I'm probably a lot closer to joining the "Holte enders in the Sky'" than I am to getting to the front of the Villa season ticket waiting list if I can get my legs working properly again! Over many, many years I've learn't to enjoy Villa for what they are and where they're at. If I had repeatedly demanded success I'd be a basket case by now. Think of all the supporters of teams that will never have a chance of winning anything, and then think of our club that at least allows us to dream. UTV
  12. Brilliant, my first game was 65 years ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday. It won't be his last match and he'll cost you a fortune before he's old enough to buy his own tickets, but the rewards will be incredible. It's worth it though because my four sons and I built an incredible bond during countless trips to Villa Park .... Our spiritual home.
  13. He's an outsider looking in and he's a good judge of players. What Villa are doing currently, and what Villa could do are vastly different things. Nick, you have a short memory if you don't remember that Villa came within a few minutes of costing Man City the Premier League championship just over three months ago.
  14. Villa are poor at the moment but I love your comment about Haaland. Sometimes it doesn't have to be all about Villa. Watching the world's best players can make the whole experience worthwhile. I'm an old codger so I no longer have a season ticket, but although I could watch the match on Sky at home my son and I will be wearing our Villa shirts and heading to a stunning local pub where the Landlord is a Villa fan. We will enjoy the game in good surroundings with cask ales and great company. Win, lose or draw it's all about the occasion. UTV.
  15. A failing manager with huge self belief bordering on arrogance is a dangerous man to have in charge when you're 19th in the Premier League. His ego means that he is unable to accept that he is wrong, and therefore it must be those around him failing to listen to his "messages". SG's ego might have been a valuable asset when he was a player because it drove him to top level even though he wasn't the best technically, but as a manager a bit of humility in acknowledging that you're getting things wrong is essential.
  16. I'm sure that we were told that euro qualification was our target.
  17. Last night only one of our five summer transfer window signings started against Arsenal. We turned two loan players including a bench sitting goalkeeper into permanent signings, bought in Kamara on a free transfer and bought the unfortunate Carlos who is now probably out for the season. We also bought a back up left back for the bench. Today we've signed a CM who was surplus to his club's requirements and probably fourth choice at Wolves, and we're currently completing a loan move for an unwanted Southampton CB to act as a stop gap due to Carlos's injury. This allowed Southampton to go for a CB tonight who they believe is a definite improvement on the one that we've loaned from them. We're 19th in the Premier League, and we are heading into a tough run of fixtures, our owners, CEO and head coach are apparently content to approximately break even in financial expenditure for the second season running rather than act at the sharp and expensive end of the transfer window. Why were we fed the line that European football was our target this season? I would like an explanation from NSWE personally as to why we were misled.
  18. That's a very real prospect. Gunfight at the OK corral. (I guess not many of you guys know what I'm on about....Great film)
  19. Moura has a tendon injury currently. He has an unknown return date according to FPL.
  20. I helped Geezer to move his Nan to a house not far from the Villa ground in a big old white van. Just thought I'd share that bit of nonsense with you guys. Same age as me and a Villa fan through and through. He would probably have chinned SG by now if he still lived local. Happy days.
  21. I don't think there are going to be many "open minded" Villa fans after this promising transfer window turned into a tragic comedy, and Villa sit 19th in the league. The next 7 hrs 45 minutes could prove me wrong of course.
  22. I don't usually like your posts rodders, they're far too angry for me .... but you've got this absolutely right in my opinion. Pushing for top 8 at the beginning of the transfer window .... shopping in the yellow sticker clearance section three months later .... Puzzling?
