Well, there are oft quoted examples of what you are saying, perhaps the Ferguson one being the most quoted. We never seem to hear of the ones where managers were kept for too long and failed - I suspect there may be many more of them.

And yet I would have said the same about this season, but promotion will not happen. They would be taking one helluva chance on keeping Bruce for next season considering his performance so far ths season.

Hutton is a trier, no doubt about that, but anything going up his side is just wasted as the guy is just not capable of delivering a decent ball and there never seems to be an end product on the right.. Better to instruct him to defend and not go forward as it just brings pressure on the defence when the ball is lost.

Good job, Bruce, you mean. Villa is a club, not a manager, or a coach - a club. The blame must go where it belongs - with the manager and his staff. So far they have ruined/pissed off/got rid of - Hogan, Lansbury, Hourahane, Ayew, Tsibola, McCormack, Gollini, Gestede and Amavi. That's virtually an entire team.

If you are talking about the fans, expectation and hope are rock bottom. We would be sky high with joy if we got a win. Expectations have never been so low, and I have been supporting this club since prehistoric times.

The risk is relegation. I said in an earlier post that we might as well give him more time as this season was gone anyway. But I now worry that he will get us relegated.

Both very good points, BOF,and I fully understand why you and others thought we would not go back up. But based on his very good record of promotions, I thought he was a sound, though, for me, uninspiring, choice, and I thought he gave us an excellent chance of immediate promotion. I was wrong, of course.

We were not too far off the playoff places, so I thought we would achieve more than we have. Not being a fan of Bruce, I was however convinced he would take us up into the playoff spots and thence into the Premier League. So I am naturally disappointed with what has happened.

With that squad - absolutely. I am just not convinced by him, and I think a relegation battle is more likely.

Unless there is an amazing manager ready to come in, we may as well give Bruce more time to see if he can gel these players. Surely he is capable of avoiding relegation with what is a very good squad.

Since Johnstone arrived, all the keepers in the opposition goal in every match have looked better than him.

Why? You might as well let Bruce, whom we are paying generously, bumble on to the end of the season or until we employ a new manager, whichever comes first.

Xia has spent the money to bring in the best players. To achieve what he wants he now needs to spend the money to bring in the best manager he can. He needs to stop messing about and wasting money employing and sacking managers who are not up to the job.

The fans have no input and virtually no influence. Until it gets beyond bearable, then fan protests have some influence. This `fickle fans' thing has stuck with us. Throw shit at a wall and some will stick. On the contrary, we as fans, have been very patient considering what we have had to put up with during and since Ellis's time, and our expectations are very reasonable. The fans with unreasonable expectations are those supporting the top clubs who are living on past glories, not us, who expect very little. You only have to read through the threads to see how reasonable our expectations are.
