  1. None of that can be contested.....but you are barking up the wrong tree. The goals we conceded in that mad 9 minutes, and moreover the manner in which they were conceded, was a poor showing for an International class back four.....Those 4 defenders are no slouches, so don't make out we are second class citizens in the transfer market... and the aforementioned clubs hold the advantage.....We have already seen off, Arsenal and Man city at home.....with clean sheets, so don't spill the bile, about a case for low expectation.... we was playing Brentford by the way, dominating possession and cruising. Your argument is valid, for some other kind of debate....but not this one. Ollie Watkins himself, came out (Brave Lad) and spelled out, what he was miffed by.....Unai Emery, was honest enough to claim responsibility.....but it was a collective calamity, and not for the first time either. You can talk about the big picture, all you like, and it's great solace to do so....but some of us are concerned we don't throw away, all that good stuff you mention. Some say Brentford fought back, because they are in a relegation fight...oh bully for them......what about our incentive of a Champions league place. You talk about confidence, we was cruising in that game, all the confidence in the world was there.....what happened was, we stopped competing. and by doing that invited them back in. For sure. we can't dwell on it....but don't try to make out, those that are irked by that collapse, are being harsh.....even the ex Pro's like Gabby endorse Ollies undoubted Ire.
  2. or not go to the euro's....now that would take some explaining. That 3rd, showed all the aggression, I have doubted him for.....showing that in front of Southgate, might have booked his passage.
  3. Never in a million years....we haven't got it in us.....so something is amiss.
  4. I think I found us a new CDM( enforcer)known for his composure.
  5. Bremner and Giles, wasn't tall either.....but different era when a tall player was 6ft.

    Clément Lenglet

I am on the fence with Clement. Would Spurs fans have him back.... No Has he helped us in a dire need,.....yes Would I prefer a Mickey van der ven....all day long. The next phase for us, is players who can make a real difference, I am not sure he can. I think we have to sign players, who push our first teamers, not cover for them....competition renders our first teamers as cover, if they don't compete.
  7. He's related to some old neighbours of ours....really pleased for them all. He seems genuinely touched by his move to us......seems to have a good attitude to it all....the signs are good. I love a trier.
  8. Nah, too skinny. you devil.
  9. I agree. He's gone past that stage....his future lies around our first team....that's where his development, will flourish....his confidence with grow, and his swagger will be nurtured.
  10. We are not going to win at the Emirates, whoever, we play.....so, is it a risk? or an opportunity. He is probably better equipped to deal with tricky wingers.....remember his game against Man City, where he faired well. I would be tempted.....it's a free hit for him.
  11. I have my doubts.....but reluctant to give up on him, until he has proved at senior level, he can't do it....He has to produce enough evidence, that he should be given an extended run. That doesn't mean he has to have a great game, initially, but he has to win the trust, to get further games. Pre- judging without a chance, can be a mistake. The success on any player can be affected, by who they have around them....Only when he has proved, he can't do it, will I be happy for him to be moved on. I think he has to be given a chance.
  12. I would say, how would Arsenal fair without Gabriel or Saliba....He's been a mammoth miss.
  13. I think the atmosphere is great, but nothing like a good crunching tackle though, to raise the temperature and increase the decibels. I always think a frenetic game, raises the decibels, without any props....I am not criticising our style of play, but a slow build up, as intelligent as it is.....tends to silence, the natives. I think, if anyone is criticising the atmosphere...( I think its fine by the way) you look at Saturday, when we got the equaliser and went for it, the decibels, were clearly enhanced. Seriously, maybe the club, simply doesn't agree, with the suggestions....and they do reserve that right. I understand, some fans are keen to help....but the club, does equally reserve the right, to run itself. Personally, I just pay my dues, support the club, and let them get on with it.....sadly some folk see a willing helper as a busy body....I am not suggesting they are, just suggesting that's how it can be interpreted.
  14. very encouraged by this boy and the passion after scoring......Wow if he wasn't a Villa fan growing up, he soon will be......"one of our own"
  15. I think there was a question mark over about 5 players positioning.....Mings does organise us, we miss that, so when some question, will he get back....when he's fit, he walks back in for me....as does Kamara
  16. sorry, I disagree....we don't like traffic, and lose the ball quite regularly in it.....it's in the WIP lIST.
  17. I think Luiz and tielemans are fine, fine players.....but they are not pivots or CDMs......They are deployed there, for their experience. I am not blaming anyone, we are a victim of WIP, and a cruel injury list.....but moving forward, we have to use some of these games as experience....and I think Unai will. He's taking it all in.....but can only do something,of significance, when the window opens up. I still believe in Tim.....but the role requires a lot of Game IQ, amongst its many things, and that takes time to learn. I think young players, have an easier time, early on, with certain positions.....CDM requires character and leadership, that takes time to come.
  18. I see it...just like that. Some clubs in the squad, have several CDM's its no shame.....The standard of ones, we would be looking at, would inevitably be ball players too.... I am not sure why anyone would think other than that.....the day of the Vinnie Jones has long gone. But players in there, do need steel, can read the game, and protect the back line.....when on top, they progress the ball, in the normal fashion. Played well like Rodri does.....I must confess, its my favourite position to watch. When he is out, Man City falter and lose that edge to their game.....hence that has happened to us, since Kamara is absent.
  19. I get that.....I predicted 6th at the start of the season.....and quite frankly, I would still accept 6th as a really good season, particularly in light of some wicked injuries....3 Acl's and Mystery foot injury to JJ....My god, who run over the black cat? You are right, top 4 was never nailed on, and I still think it's a big ask.....but I still stand by my overriding opinion, despite the good season....there is room for improvement in certain aspects of our play.
  20. I get all that.....but the emboldened bit, should not be not a trade off, the better teams do both....If we can only do one, then, that's an area to work on. You say we are a possession based team, yes, when no one is near us... In the final third we lose the ball regularly. possession based teams in the true sense of the word, keep the ball and when challenged often stay on it......we lose the ball too often and too easily, when challenged. I don't think Unai needs to change his style of play....the players need to be on it more, and realise that competing for the ball full blooded, is part and parcel of the game.....if they can't, he needs to get players who can. The shambles of organisation for our 3 conceded goals, was nothing to do with our style of play......It was an abandonment of basic defending and positioning....ball watching and a lack of awareness of where the opponent was. 2 goals is enough to win a game.....going after more, is risky......That risk needs to be managed better than we do. I am not advocating, we can't score more than 2, but we need to be sure the spirit has gone from the opponent, or we still have control of the initiative....We in contrast, so often invite teams back in, via sloppy, passive play.
  21. it was bordering on inevitable. I turned to the mrs ( fan like me) and said at 2-0....clean sheet will do me now......famous last words. I have a worry Sheepy for an appetite for standing off in this team, particularly after an impressive scoring spree...I know we all see things differently, but I do watch the top 3 a fair bit, and I don't see that trait in them.....The next 3 down are a bit susceptible to it.
  22. sorry to but in.....I have difficulty with your reasoning. I class myself as a supporter and a fan.....I renew my season ticket every year, but don't go away games anymore, age is a hamper, and getting tickets too. Every fan/supporter has a right to respond to supporting Villa, How they please, within the rules/law. I sing quite loudly, much to my spouses displeasure.....but I am not obliged to, its my choice. As you can see from my posts, I am well aware of our shortfalls( IMO) and openly express them on here....not in the ground, on matchday....but thats my call. Supporters giving out, over episodes of poor play, is evident across the whole football, industry.....or even staying away, if you are so severely affected. Folk can still be Villa Fans and not go to games.....and they have every right to voice their opinion adversely, if they so wish. Long live "Free Speech"
