  1. I think Unia condensed it all in to one narrative.....Consistency. Aston Villa on their day, can beat anyone....the task Unai has is consistency....and he knows better than anyone, that is his pursuit.
  2. I accept that sheepy.....but it's all about consistency. consistency in individual players and also collectively. Unai has been quick to remind us of that....and what his work in progress entails. When we produce a display like that, and in contrast the one against Spurs.....it shows what the manager has as a task in front of him...He knows what he has to do, to improve us.
  3. I saw things in that game, I didn't think we had in us, with that line -up, especially. I love being in that club....when Villa show me, they do have it in them.....I now know what Unai was saying about consistency, He mentioned it several times after the match. I don't think Dougie being missing, was an issue.....I think all players being at it, on the same day, was a huge reason, and that was on the back of Unai's gameplan and demands to be brave, and not worry about errors.
  4. They get paid a lot of money, for that biased Crap....then you get Merson, who you would think never played for Villa, where he possibly played his best football and revered by the fans of the day. They are obviously told by the producers what line to pursue.....its just typical of the organisation/ Media, as a whole....they are like the "thought police" controlling the narrative. We pay for all that.
  5. 100% They can **** right off...trying to discredit us. The Media...................................................next. I wouldn't believe them if they said it was daytime, in on a sunny afternoon.
  6. when they play like that in most games....I get the narrative of supporting players, when they are struggling......and on those displays, they deserve to be, supported, but a great game, does not negate a bad one....they are separate performances. but folk can only, comment on what they see during a game......good or bad. because a player, has a great game....it doesn't mean the last bad one, is/ has to be negated.....Unai talks constantly about consistency, and that is his main pursuit. We can only say what we see.
  7. Drug test? I mean who could play that well
  8. watch it with a partner, you won't need Viagra.....Youri couldn't wait until he got home.
  9. Emi said he loves Arsenal, he has friends there.....But Emi loves everybody and everything....that's Emi. No doubt that will be a headline somewhere.
  10. No....You do know about football......but performances vary, and they are human and individuals in a team of 11 have good days and bads days....and that also varies in numbers.....11 were at it yesterday, all on the same page. This is a good day......Consistency, is what separates the chaff from the wheat...Unai emphasised that, that's what he is working on. We was all at it.....ALL of us. some say fans are fickle, they are not necessarily, the football performances are.....but hey ho......great day for us.
  11. but he didn't.....if he played like that in most games, there wouldn't be the naysayers. Commenting on what you see in a game, is not the same as how you value a player overall...so that's wide of the mark. He had a great game, we all agree.
  12. but you wasn't wrong, when you thought it.....that was a colossal contrast to the Carlos in the Brentford game. That's the Carlos, we expected, yesterday. Shows what a top defender, he can be.
  13. you and the majority of the fan base. I didn't see this application coming.....so, so delighted.
  14. Abso "bloomin" lutely. It had all the things being done competently, that I have been moaning about......I genuinely didn't see that coming.....and I didn't see the resolute defensive work of McGinn and Tielemans being as dominant as it was, in the pivot...sensational. So many MOTM performances....and it shows clearly, this team, can defend, when it wants to.....I thought the tactics were spot on.....We sat a bit deeper, but no low block, and our ability to regroup in an organised fashion, when we hadn't got the ball, was a joy to see. Despite all the superlatives, I could aim at our team defensively.....They still showed the excellent skills they have showed all season in the offensive work.....what a complete performance. I have to take my hat off to a masterclass from Unai, one of the most complete performances of the season. This is a fine, fine Arsenal side, we must remind ourselves of that....at 0-0 I would have took it, as a great display....this is beyond my dreams. I was so,so proud of that performance and thought Rogers and Zaniolo, showed great signs of strength and a willingness to compete. However, I did feel a good performance here might be the filip we need to go in to the Lille game......This will show real belief, we can do it...and spook the opposition. sometimes tough games, bring the best out of us, opposed to tiredness.....this has been one massive leap in faith, for the run in. Proud of the boys. UTV

I saw all that on display yesterday....They were bang at it. Bravo, to all concerned on delivering a show stopper performance.
  16. We came, we saw and we conquered. That was reminiscent of the 1980/81 side....such was the resolute display......gone was any sign of passive play, and a true reflection of their position All the things, I have picking this team up for, they showed yesterday, they can do it......that was against a formidable Arsenal side, that was some scalp. The defensive display was sublime, allied to some fine, fine offensive work. Carlos stood out as a rock...closely followed by a Tielemans display, on par with his England showing. I could not see that performance or result coming...its showed intensity, desire, belief, resilience, and rarely have I seen a collective defensive performance as good as that. I was proud of that team and credit to every single one of them....so many could have been MOTM. I would like to say a special mention to Pau Torres, for his involvement in the first goal, ....He took out Gabriel, for the ball to fizz across the box, to Bailey, it was instrumental in that goal. Surely, that must change the complexion of the Lille visit, where Lille must be on their guard, after that rendition. Bravo you Villa Boys.

Ah....but that's the aim. We can't always compete financially, but we can get as close, as possible to the best. When we won the league and the European cup....we did not have the best individual players.....Ipswich, Liverpool, Arsenal had some fine players, as did West Brom and Southampton.... We was largely ignored by The England National team, just a few token caps, dished out..... What that team had, was balance, togetherness, belief and resilience.....the cornerstone of that team, was "Hard to beat" Its different times for sure....but the principles and mental approach, was clear...Ron Saunders was no elite coach.....but he had hard and fast principles, he adhered to....110% effort, was scoffed at, in some quarters, even in them days, Ipswich was the media darlings....but we won the prizes. .....so my overall point is, we don't need £100 mill players, if we get the balance right.....we already have 9 players in McGinn, Tielemans, Kamara, Luiz, Martinez, Rogers, Cash, Moreno, Duran, playing around our first team, who have cost sub 20 mill.....and look where they have taken us. I think we need to concentrate on getting our team, more rounded, with an ability, to attack and defend with equal aplomb, to take the game to opponents, or shut the game down, in tough away games.....relying on a few forte's is not enough...we need more qualities. Which makes this season so far unbelievable, with what we have done.

Yeah....but their progress, is limiting the weaknesses.....That's a future target for us. We have seen how much Rice, has protected Arsenals back line, this season...and in contrast West ham have conceded more after 32 games compared with last season. To me, it indicates the value of the CDM....having only one in Kamara, needs to be rectified.....as we miss him dearly.
  19. I think you make some salient points.....However, I don't think he is as happy with the trade offs your suggesting, as much as he has no choice. He is just doing what he can to get results. I don't believe he is happy with certain aspects of our play, but he is improvising, so he just gets on with it....That's unai's interpretation of a no excuse culture......He will try to improve things, game to game, for sure....but he knows, the main points, need surgery. I think you will see some defensive reinforcements enter the fray, in the Summer.......I don't believe, this is the way, he wants to play, I think he is short on choice.....Unai Emery, knows what a good defence looks like, I am certain of that....its on his agenda, I am certain of that too. He does have a clear way of playing in his head....but it is also compromised by the squad he has and the balance of it. I don't believe for one second, he doesn't see what many of us see.....doing something tangible about it is a different scenario. He has no window at present and and a FFP wanting to rear its ugly head. I have said and others on here we are WIP....and we will be for some time....It doesn't inhibit us from calling a game for what it is.....but it must be interpreted as Observations, not criticism....there is a subtle difference and I think some are mistaken by that. Observing flaws, discussing them, identifying them...is positive, not negative.....we, Including Unai are all on the same page...we want to improve. We all want to improve, despite huge strides forward. It's also worth noting, some of our players are dealing with the absentee's better than others, some are noticeably affected.....A players game can vary, depending on who they are playing with, after all, that's the feature of a team game.
